"California State Senator Ron Calderon and his brother, former Assemblyman Tom Calderon, have been indicted on political corruption charges resulting from an FBI investigation, the Los Angeles Daily News/Whittier Daily News reported Friday, citing what officials call 'the largest insurance fraud case to date in California.'"

"'Sen. Ron Calderon was charged ... with fraud, bribery, conspiracy to commit money laundering, money laundering and aiding in the filing of false tax returns,' the report explains. 'His brother, Tom Calderon, a former Assemblyman, was also charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering.'" ...

"Much has been written of late about what appears to be massive non-compliance with Connecticut's 'assault weapon' registration requirement (the guns are banned, but 'grandfathered,' if the owner registers them). Well, much has been written, that is, in gun rights advocacy circles--the mass media would apparently have us believe that it's not worth covering the fact that scores of thousands--maybe hundreds of thousands--of people are committing a felony 'crime' punishable by five years in prison." ...

"Seattle’s new anti-gun Mayor Ed Murray, who joined Mayors Against Illegal Guns the other day, is posing a dilemma for his liberal base because yesterday he supported a decision that reverses the discipline of a police officer who tangled with a writer for a popular liberal alternative newspaper."

"Some Seattle Times readers are already having what is best compared to 'buyer’s remorse' with their new mayor, who may become no more popular than the man he replaced seven weeks ago, Mike McGinn." ...

"With the recent hubbub in Cape Coral about a City Council resolution concerning the Second Amendment and comments about patriotism and the Constitution, we need to step back and review our past."

"During the founding period, there was a pervasive fear of any government having a large standing army during peacetime because it was believed this would lead to tyranny."

"In the First Congress, Thomas Scott, talking about the possibility of some people being excluded from serving in the state militias, said, 'This would lead to the violation of another article in the Constitution, which secures to the people the right of keeping arms, and in this case recourse must be had to a standing army.'" ...

"Writing for The Week last Thursday, 'progressive' Zack Beauchamp exhorts Americans to 'ban the Second Amendment.' Immediately under that headline, he pompously intones, 'Imagine the Second Amendment didn't exist, and try arguing for a constitutional right to gun ownership. You will fail.' Impressively, Beauchamp has managed the seemingly impossible feat of donning the cape of Captain Obvious, while simultaneously being dead wrong. Obvious, because the Second Amendment is the part of the Constitution dedicated to protecting the right to arms. Dead wrong, because the Tenth Amendment, were it not so routinely raped by Congress, would by itself prohibit nearly all federal gun laws." ...

"Guns: Second amendment advocates believe every American citizen should have the right to own a gun. I own guns but criminals and the mentally ill do not need guns. We must develop some checks and balances that will help save us from movie theatre, school and mall shootings. Not everybody is qualified to drive a car in America and not everyone is qualified to carry a gun." ...

"... The German gun maker, Armatix, has devised a smart gun using a technology known as iP1. The gun owner wears a black wristwatch that enters a PIN number using a radio frequency identification (RFID) that’s inside the watch and activates when placed near the specially designed .22 pistol. A light near the gun’s firing pin turns green making the weapon active and ready to discharge. If the watch and gun are too far apart, the pistol’s firing pin remains locked rendering the weapon useless. James Mitchell, owner of the Oak Tree Gun Club in Newhall, California is currently the only gun store selling the Armatix’s gun and wristwatch.
