Submitter's note: A little late to the party but a good start. Mass non compliance to registration nonsense has long been widespread. They should be passing out machine guns from government arsenals. |

More than 50 Michigan students are rallying together to get their voices heard.
The students are hoping the state will take action on gun storage laws throughout Michigan and add more mental health experts into schools.
"It will be such a productive conversation, especially hearing from young people and people from their own districts when we are talking in these meetings. We will be talking on our own experiences and why our experiences matter," Zoey Rector-Brooks a student at the University of Michigan said.

Detroit police and Wayne County leaders gathered Tuesday to call on lawful gun owners to be responsible and help prevent injuries to children in the community.
“Detroit’s babies are getting shot in record numbers for us,” said DPD Chief James White.
White said last year, 67 children under the age of 17 in Detroit were injured in a shooting and nine were killed. He said so far this year, six children under the age of 17 have had a gunshot injury. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said just in the last few years, 22 children have been shot in the homes or cars or the backyards of homes of lawful gun owners, where children have found the gun.

Yesterday, House Bill 2489, to ensure that young adults are not deprived of their right to self-defense, failed to pass in the House. Bill sponsor Rep. Justin Wilmeth has already asked for the House to reconsider the bill. Please contact your state Representative and ask them to SUPPORT HB 2489 on reconsideration.
House Bill 2489 creates a Provisional Concealed Weapons Permit for adults aged 18-20 years old. Adults aged 18-20 are old enough to vote, serve on a jury, serve in the military, and enter into contracts. It is unreasonable for the law to discriminate against them by preventing them from exercising a fundamental right to defend themselves and their families. |

Giles was convicted by a Rapides Parish jury on Jan. 29 of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice for the deadly shooting of Thomas Coutee, Jr. during a custody exchange. She will be sentenced on March 28. In Louisiana, a conviction of second-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence.
Twelve days before Giles killed Coutee, Jr., she bought the gun she used at an Academy story in Dallas, Texas and a “platinum member” status self-defense policy. According to a complaint filed by Giles in Sept. 2019, United Specialty Insurance Company and/or Delta Defense, LLC paid $50,000 for legal defense of the total amount allowed of $150,000. |

Senate Bill 195 is designed to settle those questions before the high court does.
Under current state law, a person who assaults or kills another person can claim immunity from prosecution because he or she was acting in self-defense. Senate Bill 195 clarifies whose job it is to prove it and by what standard.
The prosecutor always has the burden of proving guilt in a criminal case, and the standard is to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt.
Senate Bill 195 says the prosecutor is also responsible for proving that self defense does not apply, and the standard of proof is by clear and convincing evidence. |

Legislation to enhance protections for gun-makers, sellers and weapons carriers during declared emergencies in Idaho headed to the governor's desk on Wednesday.
The House voted 58-9 on Wednesday to approve the measure that alters the state’s disaster preparedness act by prohibiting the closing of gun-related businesses during emergencies.
Republican Gov. Brad Little issued a temporary stay-at-home order in early 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Some workers and businesses were declared essential and allowed to continue, including gun businesses. |

This topic has been at the top of my priorities since I have family and friends in the real estate business. And not one of them has spoken about the dangers of showing a home in the middle of nowhere at 7 PM to a stranger that had set up the appointment via an online calendar application.
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) puts out a report on safety from time to time. In 2017, 6% reported being a victim of one of these crimes: robbery, assault, identity theft, along with a category of “rather not say” being in the 1%. |

A panel of lawmakers introduced legislation that would strengthen Idaho’s “stand your ground” law by requiring counties to reimburse anyone charged in a slaying if a judge or jury concludes they acted in self-defense.
Sen. Christy Zito, a Republican from Hammett, said the proposal is needed to protect people like Kyle Rittenhouse, who used an AR-15 rifle to shoot three people during a street protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020. Rittenhouse killed Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, but he said he acted in self-defense. A jury last year acquitted him of multiple charges including homicide. |

Tomorrow, at 2:00PM, the House Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs will hear House Bill 2464, to improve the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their loved ones. Please consider submitting testimony in favor of HB 2464 through the Hawaii Legislative website. For help creating an account and submitting testimony, click here.
House Bill 2464 empowers law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their loved ones by repealing the requirement in state law that citizens must retreat, relinquish property, or comply with the demands of assailants before defending with deadly force. The law should not force citizens to accede to demands of violent criminals and accept becoming victims of crimes. |

Charges won't be filed against two teens who were suspected in the Pine Street shooting death of a 20-year-old Zanesville man last summer.
Tyrel Saunders was shot and killed outside of Dairy Mart on July 23. Later that night, two teens were arrested at a home on Nancy Avenue following a police standoff.
They will not be facing charges in his death following provisions in Ohio's so-called stand your ground law, according to the Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office. The law went into effect April 6. |

If you want to reduce gun violence, New York City Mayor Eric Adams thinks, you need to go after guns. His plan relies heavily on disrupting gun trafficking, seizing guns and arresting people for illegal gun possession.
This strategy is unlikely to work. Worse, the focus on gun possession arrests, if it fails to distinguish between people who pose a real threat to public safety and people who carry guns for self-protection, will compound the injustice of systematically denying city dwellers their Second Amendment rights. |

On Tuesday, Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21), alongside more than twenty colleagues, introduced the No Backdoor Gun Control Act. This legislation would remove “Any Other Weapon” (AOW) from the definition of a firearm under the National Firearms Act (NFA), ensuring that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) could not use the AOW section to violate Americans' Second Amendment rights. This is especially important should legislation that removes short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns (SBRs, SBSs) from the NFA be enacted. Closing this loophole is an important step forward in reining in the ATF. |

State lawmakers should be able to agree on at least one small improvement to gun safety in Wisconsin following the Kyle Rittenhouse acquittal in Kenosha.
Lawmakers should quickly close the loophole in state law that allowed Rittenhouse, a minor at the time, to march down Kenosha’s streets on Aug. 25, 2020, intimidating others with a semi-automatic rifle that he couldn’t legally buy — and never should have been allowed to carry.
Rittenhouse shot three people that night, killing two of them. A jury agreed he acted in self-defense, based on state law that favors shooters in conflicts. |

So last year the Memphis Democrat tried a different approach: She introduced a bill exempting from state sales tax the purchases of gun locks, gun safes and other safety devices.
A permanent sales tax exemption had failed in the past, but a one-year sales tax exemption passed last year with bipartisan support. Through June 30, the state is waiving the 7% state sales and 2.5% local option tax on sales of firearm safety and storage items. This year, Kyle introduced a bill to make the exemption permanent.

Sales fell 13% from the high of 2020, but were still 40% higher than 2019, annual data compiled by SafeHome.org reveals.
"On an overall and population-adjusted basis, more people are buying guns in almost every state," according to the organization. |

Assembly Bill 8684 would finish the job of disarming law-abiding New Yorkers once they leave home. The bill summary says it all: “Prohibits firearms in certain locations, including but not limited to all forms of public transportation, large gatherings, and food and drink establishments.”
What’s left?
I suppose you could have your gun in a telephone booth – provided you don’t take the bus to get there.
The bill is a pre-emptive end-around what gun-banners fear will be a U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking down New York’s mandate that citizens show “proper cause” for wanting to carry a gun. Apparently, defending your life isn’t cause enough. |
