"A few weeks ago, I linked to a picture of civil rights activist John Salter being attacked by a mob during a lunch counter sit-in during the 1960s. I also linked to a newspaper op-ed in which Salter explained how he and other civil rights workers used firearms for protection from Klansmen and other terrorists—when Klansmen knew that a homicide would not be witnessed by the news media. Since that blog post drew great interest from the readers, I thought that some persons might be interested in the longer version of Salter’s history of the role of armed self-defense in the Civil Rights Movement." ...

"A front page article in the Times-Herald ... featured Ellen Faden and her local chapter of the powerful and virulently anti-gun pressure group, The Brady Campaign. Right on schedule, it's the usual exploitation of an upturn in crime and violence for political gain -- page one of The Brady Campaign handbook."

"In the article Ms. Faden is quoted as saying: 'We're not saying we want to do away with people's Second Amendment rights. But we are serious about stopping the tidal wave of gun violence sweeping the country, so people can live safer lives.' I hope to disabuse Ms. Faden of this false notion or if appropriate correct her disingenuous statement that seemed to go unquestioned by the writer, Rachel Raskin-Zrihen." ...

"After I posted this blog, 'Steve Lee Likes Guns and Government Gun Control,' I heard from Steve. So did many other pro-gun bloggers who were critical of Steve. In this interview televised on Australian television, he clearly came off as a suck-up seeking fame and fortune while selling out to the idea of government gun control and limitations on ownership. This letter that he sent to another writer was strikingly similar to the first email he sent to me."

"Many folks were fawning all over his (nice) song and video, and they didn’t bother to care that he was selling the ideas of Australian gun control in a television interview. Some of us did pay attention." ...

"Guns are made for self-defense for all of our citizens ('National parks will open gates to holders of concealed guns,' Page I, Monday). They are our first line of defense against government and criminals. Our Founding Fathers knew that, which is why they adopted the Second Amendment."

"Thank God for the National Rifle Association and other people who keep protecting our right to carry guns. No gun has ever jumped up out of a holster and shot anyone of its own volition. A person is the shooter. If saving lives is the issue, we should lower the national speed limit for cars down to 35 mph. No more traffic deaths." ...

Gun Ban 2009! A Reflection on Unwarranted Mass Hysteria

"'The gun ban is coming! The gun ban is coming!' Sound familiar? It was the rallying cry for those who feed from the NRA teat immediately following President Obama's election in 2008, similar to Paul Revere's famous cry, except Revere's warning was an imminent reality. The gun ban? Not so friggin' likely according to the New York Times." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: See what happens when you believe what a politician says? It comes back to bite you. So when Obama said he was in favor of the DC ban and thought it was Constitutional, when he said he supported a ban on handguns and another time he favored banning all semi-autos, those were all lies, right? And his promise to bring back, strengthen and make permanent the Clinton AWB was mere campaign rhetoric, not to be taken seriously?

"There is no debate over the fact that criminals will be able to obtain guns for the foreseeable future. But I am not aware that criminals have been robbing and shooting up restaurants during business hours. So I personally feel more at risk from fellow citizens with mental problems or unsettled grudges opening fire with his/her concealed weapon in a public space. Or when a possibly untrained person engages them in a gunfight. I imagine that if I were to see someone with a displayed handgun (especially if they were acting suspiciously,) I would have the opportunity to move to safety. I understand that others feel differently, but I feel safest with my pistols secured at home or in a safe deposit box." ...

"This is a salute to a teacher who was 911 at Deer Creek Middle School in Littleton, Colorado on Tuesday. As we say all the time, seconds count in a crisis. David Benke exemplified the reasoning and the courage we all aspire to in times of peril. While on schoolyard duty after classes, he jumped a man who began shooting at the students. He was not only brave, but kept his cool by identifying the threat quickly and ascertaining that with the criminal using a bolt action rifle, he would have a window within which to counter-attack. All of us who carry concealed weapons know what we hope we would do in such an attack. This man knows." ...
