"The proposals would ban the possession or transfer of 45 types of assault-style weapons that are designed chiefly to kill people and that have no place in the open market; expand Maryland's ballistic fingerprinting system from handguns to all firearms; and require gun owners to report lost or stolen weapons to police within 48 hours."

-------
"No place in the open market"? Funny how the editor of an infamously liberal rag decides what has a place in the open market, instead of the consumers.

"HB 2353 requires the Arizona Department of Public Safety to enter into reciprocal agreements with other states that require Arizona recognition prior to recognizing an Arizona-issued concealed weapon permit."

Current Status:

HB 2353 passed the Judiciary Committee unamended.

HB 2353 passed the Federal Mandates and Property Rights Committee amended to clarify that the Department of Public Safety only needs to keep records on individuals with permits issued in the state of Arizona. It also clarifies that a person must have a valid concealed weapon permit issued by another state or political subdivision of another state.

The Committee of the Whole adopted a substitute amendment to the Federal Mandates and Property Rights Committee amendment that clarifies the requirement for Arizona to enter into an agreement with other states that require an agreement prior to recognizing Arizona CCWs. Additionally, it specifies that a person temporarily in Arizona needs a CCW from the state in which they are a resident and that the issuing authority must require a criminal record check in order to reciprocate.

"Charges and countercharges slung by the city's police chief and his top assistant not only crumbled the top command, but also sparked an ongoing criminal investigation into the sale of at least two confiscated weapons, according to sources close to the probe."

"In it, Frechette alleged Capt. Timothy Kenney had improperly sold guns that disappeared from a department evidence room."

Only the police should have guns, right? Why, so they can sell them illegally?!

The Iraq War Reporting Policy: Government Script Approval

"Already, the American press is expressing its approval of the coverage of American forces which the US military intends to allow its reporters in the next Gulf war. The boys from CNN, CBS, ABC and The New York Times will be 'embedded' among the US marines and infantry. The degree of censorship hasn't quite been worked out. But it doesn't matter how much the Pentagon cuts from the reporters' dispatches. A new CNN system of 'script approval' – the iniquitous instruction to reporters that they have to send all their copy to anonymous officials in Atlanta to ensure it is suitably sanitised – suggests that the Pentagon and the Department of State have nothing to worry about. Nor do the Israelis."

"Indeed, reading a new CNN document, 'Reminder of Script Approval Policy', fairly takes the breath away. 'All reporters preparing package scripts must submit the scripts for approval,' it says. 'Packages may not be edited until the scripts are approved... All packages originating outside Washington, LA (Los Angeles) or NY (New York), including all international bureaus, must come to the ROW in Atlanta for approval.' "

"Lawmakers are proposing legislation to create a crime fighting database that would store ballistic fingerprints."

"This database would keep a record of gun marking that would lead back to the owner in case it's used in a crime." ...

"Every time a gun is fired it leaves a distinctive mark on the bullet and the casing."

"It's called a ballistic fingerprint."

"Those fingerprints have been helping ATF and FBI agents track down criminals for years."

-------
Once again, for the mentally and truthfully challenged:

There is no such thing as a "ballistic fingerprint," since the gun's signature can be altered relatively easily.

The ballistic signature databases in Maryland and New York have not been instrumental in solving a single crime.

What will it take to get through to these liars?

"The recent revelations about apparent research fabrications and unethical self-promotion by gun-rights darling John Lott has [sic] drawn renewed attention to gun-violence research. So a new book by the Brookings Institution Press, 'Evaluating Gun Policy,' may be appearing at a propitious time." ...

"Because the debate has not been about the issues themselves. The discussion, which has taken up considerable Senate session time, has been about whether to bypass the committee process and deal with the bills directly on the floor."
