... "Since Henigan invoked Agent Terry’s name, let’s see if he’s capable of joining with some of those 'courageous officers' he lauds who have put their necks on the block to do the man’s memory justice. I call on him and Brady Campaign President Paul Helmke to issue a public statement demanding full and public Congressional hearings ..." ...

"As Seattle Gun Rights Examiner Dave Workman discussed yesterday, Brady Campaign's Dennis 'What People?' Henigan is equally outraged, and wants Huffington Post readers to know about it. He is, in fact, apparently too angry to be bothered with limiting himself to the truth:" ...

"'The three men who broke into a house Wednesday evening and assaulted the 66-year-old homeowner were intent on stealing his guns, according to police. Police Chief John R. Desmarais said the three suspects had targeted the house at 124 Overhill Road because they’d learned that the homeowner had an array of guns.' Did you catch that? The good folks at newsblog.projo.com published the street address of a guy who just got robbed because someone knew where he lived, and the fact that he had guns ..." ...

Intelligent People With Opposing Ideas Can Compromise

... "Weapons laws in this nation need to be changed. When Burr killed Hamilton there was just one shot available in the gun. The founding fathers never imaged a 31-clip semi-automatic handgun, which a deranged person can legally obtain."

"Nonprofits need to facilitate these discussions. There is plenty of ammunition on both sides but in this window of civility, nonprofits have a special opportunity to show why they play such a vital role in the fabric of our nation." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Okay, A) multi-shot "pepper-box revolvers" were available starting in the 15th century. 2) You want compromise? Fine, I break into your house some night and you catch me with the family silver. We are both intelligent people, how about we "compromise" and I only take 2 place settings? G-d given rights are not subject to compromise, period.

Bullied by the gun lobby

"Law-abiding gun dealers and gun owners have rights. So says the Second Amendment and so says the Supreme Court. But that doesn’t make common-sense regulation unconstitutional. Yet the gun industry continues to resist modest provisions that do not infringe on dealers’ or gun owners’ legitimate interests but that could significantly enhance public safety. And lawmakers — some perhaps acting as much out of fear of the powerful lobby as on principle — continue to enable this irresponsible aversion." ...

A Rational Approach to Gun Control

... "Looking at the facts in this case, the argument seems, to me, altogether obvious. [The Tucson shooter] walked into a Sportmen’s Warehouse in Tuscon and bought a gun that he later used to kill six people. These actions were irrational, maniacal and, in their effects, tragic. But most tragic of all to me is that they were easily preventable were the state to adopt a reasonable policy regarding the sale of guns to the mentally disturbed. ..."

Submitter's Note: Sales of firearms to "the mentally disturbed" are already unlawful. This author seems to want an office of Pre-Crime to protect us.

... "So what is to account for those 30,000 gun deaths in the United States? There are many hypotheses, by no means mutually exclusive: A 'gun culture' based upon a long historical tradition, the depiction of gun violence in the popular mass media (movies and TV, computer video games), the large number of privately owned firearms (though less, per capita, than in Canada), and finally, the almost total absence of laws restricting gun ownership." ...

"The endless carnage of the Mexican cartel wars may seem a world away from the climate control and free Starbucks within the Phoenix Convention Center, where leading border security experts gathered this month for the fifth annual Border Security Expo. Yet it's only 150 miles from downtown Phoenix to the northernmost cartel war zone of Nogales, Sonora. Even closer are the badlands on the U.S. side of the border where last December a Border Patrol agent was killed in a firefight with Mexican drug smugglers. They were armed with AK-47s purchased legally from a gun store in Glendale, Arizona, less than a year before." ...

"Bill, our founding fathers didn’t intend 'the right to bear arms' to be used lightly."

"I come from an area that has a gun range across the street from a gas station … quite near a subdivision. Nothing surprises me nowadays."

"We must ensure citizens are given all the facts about the concept known as the Castle Doctrine, which fundamentally affirms that a person’s home is his castle and a citizen should be authorized to use deadly force to protect it."

"Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker exempted police and firefighters from a bill limiting collective bargaining to avoid jeopardizing public safety, a spokesman said. A similar bill in Ohio includes the groups."

"If Walker’s bill passes, public-safety workers would pay little or nothing toward their pensions and negotiate raises as a group. All other state employees would pay 5.8 percent of their wages toward their pensions, and voters would have to approve raises that outpace inflation. Those in uniform would pay 6 percent of their health-care premiums; civilians would pay about 12 percent." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws. — AYN RAND
