"Anti-civil-rights extremists in the Maryland General Assembly are pushing a racist, elitist bill that will adversely effect seniors, minorities, the poor and the middle class. House Bill 1125 is designed as an end run around the Bill of Rights." -by John Bender, published in The Sierra Times |

"There are really are some anti-gun lobbyists (including Sarah Brady) who do not want to take away every single gun in the United States. In their utopia, they can accept people owning guns for sporting purposes. Does this mean that gun-rights groups should relax, and go along with the anti-gun lobbies' proposals for more "moderate" controls? Not exactly." by Dave Kopel of the Independence Institute |

New regulations were proposed Wednesday that would ease handgun sales in Maryland, a response to a bill passed last year that unintentionally led to what House Speaker Casper Taylor Jr. called a "de facto gun ban."
Mr. Taylor meant the regulations to ease legal gun sales, but gun advocates in the General Assembly decried the move. "I think it's a day late and a dollar short," said Sen. Timothy Ferguson, "Quite frankly, what the speaker should have done is help us kill the [first] bill." |

"IF YOU'RE ever arrested in the US, remember that what you say may not be as important as how you say it. When the police arrest you in the States, they must tell you at the outset that you have the right to say nothing unless a lawyer is present. So why do so many suspects end up confessing to a crime without ever seeing a lawyer?" |

Summary of article by reader, Forrest Lain: "This is another example of how another 'Waco' or 'Ruby Ridge' could have occurred. The FBI and the ATF are the first one to yell if local law enforcement officers do not keep them informed. Yet they continue to pull tactics such as this without notifying even the county sheriff. I for one, am all for going after the crooks, but thought that we had eliminated the 'Janet Reno' tactics." |

(Fourth Letter Down On Page) "The truth is that citizens with concealed-carry permits, all of whom have undergone background checks by the state, have a proven record of being the most responsible and law-abiding of citizens. Indeed, the State Police will tell you there were no recorded fatalities due to irresponsible behavior by permit-holders in restaurants in the 100 years previous to the totally unjustified 1995 ban."

Instances of criminals using terror as a weapon against victims within their own homes has prompted state Senator Jay Costa Jr. to offer new legislation to specifically address home invasions.
"Families should feel safe and be safe in their homes," Costa said. "Criminals are using fear as a tool and purposefully invoking terror against victims within the sanctity of their own homes."
