The city of Novi would like to ban concealed weapons from its public buildings, but a 12-year-old state law may prevent it from doing so. Last month, the City Council introduced a proposed ordinance that would ban guns from its city hall, library and other public buildings -- following the lead of Ferndale, which approved a similar ordinance in November.
Law enforcement officers would still be able to carry weapons in city buildings. |

Some mentally ill people banned from owning guns can buy them anyway because New Hampshire officials don't report mental health records to federal authorities. But because the state doesn't collect those records, there's no way to know how many mentally ill people have purchased guns, according to Chuck Drew of the gun-control group New Hampshire Ceasefire. |

This might have been "Bleeding Kansas" in the 19th Century, but visitors to properties managed by the Kansas State Historical Society won't see any blood.
Ramon Powers said the decision was based on "our general view of the kind of audience that we are trying to reach out to. "It really is not history itself," he said of re-enactments. "The real gore of battle is not represented. You could almost argue that we make violence appealing if we engage in it in this controlled way."

Along the southern edge of Dogtown stretches a landscape of rusting decay. Here, amid the silence of closed factories, the only signs of life are mechanical: an old fence flapping on its hinge, ancient trains lumbering through gray rail yards, and cars whizzing down Manchester Road.
At one point, above a squat cinder block building, the observant driver may notice what has become a common symbol: concentric circles, red within white within red. |

Wherever tyranny and despotism predominate, thinking and caring persons must evaluate the risks of speaking out. Will they be persecuted? Will they be thought of as radicals, as anarchists, or even worse? Will they be dismissed as unpatriotic and enemies of the "people’s"government? And isn’t the government of the United States of America a government of the people, by the people, and for the people? |

As candidates for governor, Democrats Paul Vallas and Rod Blagojevich have nearly identical beliefs when it comes to the need for stronger gun control. But anyone who has been in Southern Illinois might come away with a very different impression.
Vallas' position on gun control is almost identical to Blagojevich's. Both oppose allowing people to carry concealed firearms and both support a ban on semi-automatic weapons. Vallas said: "The most critical issue is to get control of firearms." |

A Broward County proposal to build a new "anti-terrorism" training facility in Markham Park has local gun clubs concerned about encroachment into areas currently open to the public.
"At this point, it could affect all of us or none of us," said Russell Simpson, who represents five gun clubs that use the range. "That's what we want to find out."
County officials say the building, which is under review by the city of Sunrise, will not affect park visitors or public gun range users. |

The arms trafficking ringleader Victor Bout, a former KGB official, continues to remain at large, despite numerous U.N. investigations that between 1996 and 2002 have exposed his sanction-busting operations.

This question is one that I and other women who attended a Basic Personal Protection Class pondered. The class is the second step required to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Michigan.
An event that brought this question to mind, said Patty Deifenbach was the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. |

The following are excerpts from the current platform of the Democratic Party...
(Bill Clinton and Al Gore) “…stood up to the gun lobby, to pass the Brady Bill and ban deadly assault weapons - and stopped nearly half a million felons, fugitives, and stalkers from buying guns ... we need mandatory child safety locks, to protect our children. We should require a photo license I.D., a full background check, and a gun safety test to buy a new handgun in America.”
