Competitive shooting: It's an Olympic sport, but doesn't always get the coverage it deserves.

Did you know the U.S. fields a deeply talented women's team? But while there's a plethora of talented shooters trying out for Team USA, only two will make the Games.

Skeet shooter Kim Rhode has brought home a medal from the Summer Olympics every four years since 1996. And now two women who train right here in Colorado Springs are vying for a spot on the team.

"For me being ranked so high on the world level and I just haven't made the Olympic team yet, so I keep coming back and I am really excited to get it done," says Caitlin Conner.

For the second time this month, Michigan’s Republican-led Senate has blocked one of Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s appointments to the state commission that regulates hunting and fishing.

The Senate on Thursday rejected George Heartwell, a former mayor of Grand Rapids. Gun-rights groups opposed his nomination in part because, as mayor, he backed an ordinance banning guns in public buildings and was a member of a gun-control group co-founded by former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

Heartwell, who no longer hunts but fishes, has said he supports the Second Amendment and hunting.

Republicans said their constituents’ did not trust that Heartwell would have their best interests in mind.

Allegan County became the latest Michigan county to pass a resolution giving itself sanctuary status for the Second Amendment.

The resolution states the county will not enforce any unconstitutional firearms laws, although county commissioners already have to swear an oath to uphold the constitution at the start of their terms.

The Allegan County Board of Commissioners passed the resolution unanimously during its Thursday, Feb. 27, meeting in Allegan.

The resolution directs Allegan County Sheriff’s authorities “to not enforce against any citizen an unconstitutional firearms law.”

During the Feb. 13 meeting, the Allegan County 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Group asked the board to take up the matter.

The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) is leading the fight for Constitutional Carry in Tennessee, a measure that would expand self-defense options for law-abiding citizens.

Sometimes called permitless carry, Constitutional Carry would ensure that no honest, hard-working Tennessean is ever left defenseless while waiting for government permission or wading through red-tape.

“The Second Amendment is clear and concise and secures the freedoms of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms,” said Gov. Bill Lee.

When Kari Grayson and her husband became part owners of Buck and Doe’s Mercantile and transformed the old Mumme’s feed store on U.S. 281 North into a gun and archery retail operation with indoor ranges in 2017, she focused on the boutique side.

Never a hunter or shooter, Grayson took a lesson at the facility.

She was good at it and loved it.

Your NRA has learned that a number of Alabama sheriffs are attempting to derail House Bill 39 and Senate Bill 47, NRA-supported bills to provide a lifetime option to Alabama’s concealed carry permit holders. We’ve heard that the Alabama Sheriffs Association (ASA) and individual sheriffs from across the state have been in Montgomery hammering your legislators to kill these important bills. The choice of which option is best for your self-defense needs should be YOURS, not theirs.

Ten years ago this October, the Student Assembly unanimously approved a resolution formally requesting changes to a University policy that prohibits individuals from carrying pepper spray, a nonlethal chemical commonly used for self-defense, on campus. It was a moment of contention between the S.A. and the administration that many Cornellians today would find familiar — despite support throughout the student body, the University ultimately declined to implement its sensible and actionable suggestions for reform. As students formally begin their campaigns for the S.A. this week, they should consider revisiting this popular and important proposition.

Republicans in the Iowa House have passed a bill that would force any Iowa city or county with gun restrictions in a government-owned building to screen people at entrances and have an armed guard inside.

Representative Steven Holt, a Republican from Denison, said it will help ensure Iowans have the right to self defense. “It is also about the health and safety of our children and our families,” Holt said. “It is about my right as a parent to be prepared to defend my wife and my children — my family.”

A proposed bill would allow students in Tennessee that comply with the law to concealed carry on campus. That would put Tennessee among ten other states that allow their students to carry on campus.

There are a number of other states that leave it up to the institution to decide whether or not to let their students carry on campus.

To be compliant with state law, the student would have to be at least 21-years-old and have an enhanced handgun carry permit, which requires an eight-hour course.

Data obtained from The Violence Project and organized by the Los Angeles Times reveals that five reforms specifically could result in significantly reducing the number of mass shootings in the U.S. Those reforms are:

--banning straw purchases (and strengthening enforcement)
--requiring safe storage of weapons when not in use
--an assault weapons ban
--background checks on every gun purchase
--and “red flag” laws

The analysis admits there’s “no guarantee that these laws would be effective in stopping motivated killers from ultimately achieving their goal.”

Ed.: It's not going to work, but they want to do it anyway.

A friend told me his son saw a person outside the house looking in the window last night. After grabbing his shotgun and a handheld light my friend discovered he had no idea how to use the two of them together. How do you operate a shotgun and search with a light, he wondered? Stymied, he sought out his home defense AR, only to discover the batteries on his red dot sight had died. Next, he turned on the outside floodlights and found the bulbs were all burned out. Finally, turning on inside lights scared the intruder away.

House Bill number 72 is the “Louisiana Constitutional Carry Act of 2020.” H.B. 72 says that you may carry a concealed firearm unless you are a prohibited person under state and federal law. This is commonly called constitutional carry or permitless carry. In short, if it was legal for you to get a permit and carry in public then the bill allows you to carry in public. If it was illegal for you to carry in public, then it remains illegal for you to carry in public.

How measures are enforced vary from place to place.

Were Michael Bloomberg to win the Democrat party's nomination for U.S. President and to prevail in the 2020 general election, he would, as his first order of business, undermine the second amendment, paving the way for the destruction of the nation’s free constitutional republic

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. — C. S. LEWIS
