Two weeks after a mass shooting in nearby East Lansing spurred a new round of calls to action, Lansing will see the first series of gun safety-related bills in the legislature when they go to committee Tuesday.
The Michigan House Elections committee will hear testimony about banning weapons at polling places and election drop boxes. HB 4127 and HB 4128 would ban firearms within 100 feet of a polling entrance on election day or possess a firearm where absentee ballots are being counted.
The hearing is scheduled at 10:30 a.m.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and election clerks support the bills, as does Voters Not Politicians, which lobbies on behalf of save and fair election laws. |

“You wouldn’t know it by watching the news or listening to the haters. But on crime, Mayor Lightfoot’s got a plan.” At least, that’s what a commercial touting Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot and her campaign for reelection would have you believe. Lightfoot is running for a second term in a tight mayoral race that culminates on February 28, with a potential April 4 run-off. |

California is a laboratory for oppressive and ineffective gun control. And, for the most part, the proponents of these measures have kept up the charade that they are aimed at reducing crime, accidents, or suicides. But now some activists are becoming emboldened to drop the pretense and to admit they simply want to do away with guns entirely. California Senate Bill 637 is a case in point. |

Jumping into the pistol-caliber carbine market with a handy 9mm rifle that shares the same lineage as its successful M&P series pistols, S&W's new gun folds at the barrel for easy storage. The new M&P FPC carbine stems from its family tree, logically using the grip, magazines, and surface controls of the M&P9 M2.0 pistol. The upper half, however, is radically different, sporting a 16-inch barrel inside of a lightweight handguard complete with M-LOK accessory slots. The carbine is both optics and suppressor ready, with a 1/2x28 TPI threaded barrel and a full-length top Picatinny rail for sights or glass. Meanwhile, the side-folding barrel prevents loss of zero. |

We don’t really talk that much about David Hogg anymore, as he no longer seems to be the darling of the anti-gun movement he once was; although one might argue he was never much more than a suitable tool for those determined to undermine the Second Amendment. Maybe the anti-self-defense crowd finally began to realize, as we did when he first began his campaign against our right to arms, that he is little more than an ill-informed, self-obsessed attention-seeker. |

The Wyoming House voted 61-0 to pass SF 148, a bill that enhances the current firearm preemption laws. SF 148 ensures the Wyoming state legislature has the sole authority to regulate firearms, preventing counties and municipalities from passing a patchwork of confusing and conflicting local laws throughout the state. SF 148 has been sent to Governor Mark Gordon’s desk to be signed into law.

What’s in your wallet? If it’s a Discover credit card, be advised that it will soon be used to monitor your gun-related purchases and potentially report them to the government. Earlier this month, Discover was the first major credit card issuer to announce that it will implement a new merchant category code (MCC) created to track purchases at gun stores with the express purpose of monitoring and reporting to authorities any activity the company considers “suspicious.” Discover told news outlet Reuters that it would begin its surveillances of gun shop purchases in April. |

"New York's Gun Laws Sow Confusion As Nation Rethinks Regulation," says the headline over this morning's lead story in The New York Times. But after implicitly (and correctly) blaming state legislators for the "confusion," the Times identifies a different culprit in the subhead: the Supreme Court's June 23 decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, which "overturn[ed] century-old New York gun regulations" and "produced scores of new lawsuits," leaving "jurists and citizens" to "sort out what's legal." |

The City Council took a stand in favor of a proposed assault weapon ban making its way through the Rhode Island General Assembly this year. “The lack of gun safety regulations at both the state and federal level, it just doesn’t cease to amaze me,” Councilor Jeanne-Marie Napolitano said at the City Council meeting Wednesday night. “I just wanted to say I’ve listened to the news reports of the last week about the shooting at Michigan State University and my heart was heavy, but I’m tired of the thoughts and prayers. It’s time for action by councils, by state legislators, our Congress in Washington, to adopt common sense gun laws.” |

The jacketed hollow point (JHP) is designed to expand rapidly when hitting its target, which increases the effectiveness of the bullet and decreases the chances of over-penetration. Jacketed hollow points come in a massive variety, separated by shape, design or simply the company that manufactures them. When comparing JHP vs. HP, some jacketed hollow points will look just like traditional hollow points, but will be obviously coated. Others will have a more advanced and high-tech appearance.
