The two smallest schools competing in the PIAA rifle championships are West Greene and Avella.
It’s safe to say that the two schools would only be paired with such powerhouses as Hempfield, Butler and Bethel Park in a sport such as rifle.
Last week, Sheyann Watson of West Greene won the WPIAL title.
This week, Alayna Walther of Avella put the finishing touches on an impressive season by winning the PIAA State Scholastic Smallbore Prone Championship.
Walther, a junior, shot 414.4 on the USA50 target.
How good is that score?
Well, let’s put it this way: You don’t want to accidentally wander into her line of sight.

Representatives of a gun rights group urged commissioners Tuesday to declare Branch County a “Second Amendment Sanctuary County.”
Group chair Karen Barkman, who presented the board with a prepared resolution, said 18 other counties have passed a similar resolution, including neighboring Hillsdale County.
On Wednesday, the Michigan House entered the fray. It voted 75-32 to affirm its support of the Second Amendment. The resolution stopped short of naming Michigan a gun rights “sanctuary.”
The House Resolution 227 states the Michigan legislature “will not pass laws that would infringe upon the ability of Michigan residents to own and keep firearms.”

Colorado Springs parents are speaking out after they say their 10-year-old son was arrested because he and his friend were pointing toy weapons at passing cars in a neighborhood.
Christopher and Stefanie Carpenter are a military family living on base at Fort Carson. The Carpenters have three children, one of whom is Gavin. Last summer on July 24, the Carpenters said Gavin went to a friend's house for a sleepover. Gavin was first at the friend's grandparent's home before the kids were going to head to the friend's actual home. However, they never made it there.

The most I could ask of gun-control activists is simply for them to tell the truth about who they are, what they believe and what they want. Not only does this make for an honest debate, it makes it easy to build a case for the Second Amendment.
That’s because what really underlies the difference between pro- and anti-gun advocates isn’t who gets to have what kinds of guns under what sorts of circumstances.
Rather, it’s whether “average” people should be able to protect their lives and loved ones at all. |

Tired of rehashing the great 9mm versus .45 ACP debate, let’s consider the other side of the caliber spectrum — what about carrying a rimfire for self-defense?
While nobody recommends a .22 LR as the ultimate man-stopper, host Brent T. Wheat and Publisher Roy Huntington discuss the pros and cons of small-caliber firearms and share their thoughts from decades of shooting and law enforcement experience in this Quick Hit episode. |

Firearm sales among women are increasing all over the United States.
Self-defense and home protection play big roles in that increase.
More and more women across the nation are arming themselves and getting educated when it comes to firearms, in effort to keep themselves safe.
In Wichita Falls, most females that purchase firearms are preparing for self-protection. |

A group of pro-Second Amendment lawmakers have taken the step of refusing to attend floor sessions. Their action prevents a chamber of the Oregon Legislature from reaching a quorum and stops House Bill 4005A and other bills from advancing.
If your state Representative appears in the list below, please take the time to thank them for taking a stand in defense of your Second Amendment rights. |

The next time a criminal tries to steal a woman’s purse or assault a seemingly defenseless female walking back to her apartment, he’s more likely to be staring down the barrel of a handgun. And she’s probably well trained on how to use that weapon. It’s the age of the firearm feminist, and it’s driving the Left crazy. |

From tougher penalties for illegal gun use to expansion of the places guns can legally be carried, at least 72 firearm-related bills have been filed so far this legislative session. That’s the largest number in a decade.
For Democrats, who make up a minority of the legislature, significant across-the-aisle support will be needed in order to pass any of their proposed policies. Republicans, on the other hand, could have a much easier time seeing their bills become law. |

There has been a lot of speculation about the interchange between the Otter Tail County Commissioners and the group of people who are asking them to vote for a Second Amendment protection resolution. I do not think the animosity we are experiencing is warranted. In our conservative county, aren’t most of us, including most of the commissioners, for protecting the Second Amendment, and the Constitution? What I do believe is that there is a lot of misinformation regarding this issue. |

On Monday, Feb. 24, the Livingston County Board of Commissioners passed a “Second Amendment Sanctuary” resolution.
Now that the amendment is approved, the county is declared a sanctuary area, meaning it would prohibit law enforcement from enforcing certain gun control measures like universal background checks, assault weapon bans and red flags laws — all considered to be a violation of the Second Amendment. |

As your state representative, I have always been upfront and transparent with you about my strong support for the Second Amendment and law-abiding Minnesotan's right to protect themselves and their families. I will always vote to uphold the Second Amendment.
Unfortunately, I am disappointed to report that two gun-grabbing bills were passed by the Minnesota House of Representatives on Thursday evening. |

It would be far more alarming if a local sheriff actually makes good on the threat — by refusing, for instance, to seize a weapon from a self-destructive son or daughter whose parents have convinced a judge that suicide may be imminent if law enforcement does not intervene. In that case, it would be not only irresponsible but also illegal, and quite likely would expose sheriffs personally, as well as the localities they represent, to liability in the event of an act of violence. |
