. . . "The attacks of September 11, 2001, changed many things, but they did not make the federal government more competent or effective, and they did not make it more willing to respect the dignity or liberty of its citizens. For proof, one need only examine the TSA’s sorry record." ...

-------
There is surely some new and infuriating data about TSA in this one, even for people who've followed this miserable excuse of a federal agency closely.

"Sen. John Edwards had a penknife confiscated as part of a stepped up security search that caused a one-hour delay for the Democratic presidential candidate and others boarding his chartered plane."

"Albuquerque security officials gave extensive screenings to those traveling with the senator, including hand inspections of everyone's luggage and carry-on bags."

" 'We must look dangerous,' joked the North Carolina Democrat, who was forced to go through a metal detector along with other passengers, and to have all his bags X-rayed, before being allowed to board his campaign plane."

"A small knife was confiscated from Edwards' luggage. 'It was a pocket knife,' Edwards said. 'I didn't even know it was there.' He said he was told it would be returned to him later."

Yes, you are dangerous, Senator. You are dangerous to the rights of law-abiding, freedom-loving citizens of America.

"The likelihood of carrying a concealed gun appears to be linked with conduct disorder (CD) in young men, according to an article in the February issue of The Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals." ...

"... Using weapons is also a symptom of CD, but little is known about how many boys with CD illegally carry concealed guns before the age of 18 and to what extent their gun carrying is associated with violence or crime."

"Rolf Loeber, Ph.D., of the University of Pittsburgh, and colleagues investigated the relationship between carrying a concealed gun and CD in young men, and how gun carrying is associated with crime in adulthood." ...

-------
This is quite possibly one of the most absurd press releases to ever be published. Millions of people carry concealed guns every day. Are they all afflicted with "conduct disorders?" It is also a fact that many of the young men who commit crimes eat doughnuts and wear sneakers. Will they try to establish a link as well?

The state Department of Public Safety says 84 people are now licensed to carry concealed handguns in New Mexico.

An agency spokesman, Peter Olson, says hundreds of people have completed a mandated course and have filed the paperwork to obtain the licenses.

The state Supreme Court ruled last month that the law allowing the licenses would stand.

The law allows New Mexicans age 25 and over to get two-year licenses after completing firearms training courses and passing criminal background checks.

"The high incidence of violent crimes is a real nightmare for Nairobi residents. Carjackers, armed robbers and muggers lurk everywhere - on the roads, in the city centre and in the residential estates. The other day, a friend was accosted right at his gate, forced into the boot of his car and driven off into the night. He was robbed of cash, his wedding ring and other belongings and dumped by the roadside. The car was later found but, of course, without his tool kit and jack and some of his treasured music cassettes. Luckily enough, he didn't resist and was not hurt."

-------
And the government wants its citizens disarmed in the face of these thugs, because apparently the "wrong hands" are the hands of anyone but the state and its agents.

... "In one case, an 18-year-old college student returning to her apartment building at about 4:30 a.m. was followed by the suspect, who told her he had a gun and demanded money, police said."

"The suspect walked with the woman to a nearby bodega, forced her to withdraw $100 from an automated teller machine and then took her back to her building, where he sodomized her in the lobby, police said." ...

The suspect is in custody. He's been arrested 26 times in the past. He is suspected of many recent sexual assaults. And in NYC, potential unarmed victims are everywhere in wide variety -- because carrying a firearm for self-defense is a felony.

RICHMOND — "State lawmakers have introduced a bill tightening regulations on weapons sales at gun shows and are scheduled to debate a proposal that forbids people with concealed-weapons permits from bringing their guns into restaurants that serve alcohol."

"The Senate Finance Committee this week will debate the bill that requires buyers at gun shows to pass a criminal background check. Virginia law now requires background checks only for people who buy guns from licensed dealers and from stores." ...

-------
The "gun show loophole" is that people have to jump through hoops to exercise basic constitutional rights. THAT is the loophole.

Once again - for the uninformed - less than two percent of criminals obtain guns at gun shows. If there was a "loophole," one would think many of them would flock to that gun show for some easy armaments.

"NRAleaders.com - Exposing Extremists In the Gun Lobby: The Brady Campaign united with the Million Mom March has launched a new website, NRAleaders.com which details the extreme, and racist, attitudes of the NRA's leadership. This is part of a continuing campaign to expose the NRA. After reviewing the NRAleaders.com website, New York City Mayor Bloomberg's spokesperson called the NRA leaders 'reprehensible' and the New York City Council moved to urge the Republican Party to prohibit the NRA from participating in the Republican National Convention in New York this fall. For more information visit: www.NRAleaders.com"

-------
These people are expanding and strengthening Jim Crow laws and they call us racists and extremists?

Meanwhile, the man who has directed his police force to generate revenue by fining New York's citizens for such grievous crimes as sitting on a milk crate, having an ashtray in their place of business and having the wrong sized sign on their awning in a city that prosecutes fathers for defending their families with firearms and old men for trying to fend off robbers with a gun is calling the NRA "reprehensible."

"Four years after adopting a platform demanding a government crackdown on guns, Democratic presidential candidates this year are back peddling from a decade of party support for federal regulation of firearms."

"John Kerry, frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination, repeatedly notes in his speeches that he is a hunter, and Wesley Clark says that he has '20-some odd guns in the house.' Howard Dean suggests gun laws should be left to states to decide, and Joseph Lieberman has repudiated a 2000 campaign pledge by his running mate Al Gore to license anyone buying a gun."

"These views represent a shift in views in the Democratic Party, which over the last decade has pushed tough gun control proposals in Congress."

-------
These views represent politicians trying to kiss up to the uninformed by attempting to appear a bit more moderate. Being a gun owner doesn't make Kerry Constitutionally literate.

"After failing to scare business lobbyists into the fight in 2003, and after loosing in the legislative arena just weeks ago, gun ban lobbyists' are now hoping to convince business owners to discriminate against employees and customers who choose to obtain a concealed handgun license (CHL) for self-protection, as witnessed in the Jan. 26 letter to Crain's Cleveland Business magazine from 'Million' Mom March president Lori O'Neill."

"O'Neill states that with passage of HB12, 'Ohio employers have an additional burden to deal with' - 'armed employees and customers entering their work zones.' But as families of victims of two recent Ohio public shootings at Case Western Reserve University and Watkins Motor Lines trucking company are painfully aware, there is no new burden at issue. With or without this law, there will always be instances of persons bringing firearms into public places. Sadly, in our state's past, the persons who did so nearly always meant to do others harm, and cared nothing for signs, company policies, or legal prohibitions."

"POLICE will target gun owners in a series of surprise weapon safety audits across the Oxley Local Area Command and the State in coming weeks."

"The audit is aimed at preventing theft and injury caused by the unsafe storage of firearms, such as under a bed or in a cupboard, an unfortunate circumstance of improper firearm storage that police often have to deal with."

"Police have detailed files of thousands of licence holders and have already begun random visits in the Tamworth area. The audit will extend the throughout the command area."

"Inspector Rogers said it was a condition of the licence for gun owners to allow police onto their premises for safety inspections."

Isn't it nice that the government is taking such good care of its subjects for the common good?

"There are more ways to defend your country than donning fatigues and being willing to die to protect the oil interests of the rich and powerful. Armed with determination, your computer, a fax/copier, a phone, and the Internet, you can be a defender of liberty, and bequeath to your children and all your descendants the same freedom you were privileged to inherit. Read the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence to your children for their bedtime stories."

This is from the socialist gun banners at the Brady Bunch, so, as with anything from them, take it with a grain of salt:

. . . "Tennille Jefferson's suit, stemming from the shooting death of her seven-year-old son Nafis in South Philadelphia on April 19, 1999, alleges that Sauers Trading of Williamsport, Pennsylvania repeatedly sold guns to a drug-addicted gun trafficker that quickly made their way to the streets of Philadelphia. The January 29 ruling by Philadelphia Judge Nitza Quiñones Alejandro rejected Sauers' motion for summary judgment and clears the case for trial on April 5th." ...

"Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) has introduced federal legislation that would provide state and local law enforcement agencies in high-crime areas $90 million a year to provide temporary or long-term protection. The bill follows a witness killing in Brooklyn last summer."

-------
Schumer's answer to violence? Give government agents more money to jack up the citizenry under the guise of protection. "We'll protect you, so you don't have any need or right to self defense"

"My troubles began in March of 2000 when I published a 'letter to the editor' in the campus newspaper that some people found offensive. Responding to a female columnist who claimed that possession of a firearm made every gun owner a potential murderer, I pointed out by way of analogy that her possession of an unregistered sexual organ made her a potential prostitute. For writing this letter, twenty-five charges of sexual harassment were filed against me by people I had never met. My attitudes, convictions, and beliefs were put on trial in a secret Star Chamber proceeding. After I admitted (gasp) that I was a member of the National Rifle Association, I was asked this question: do you think the Nazis were bad people?"

"University of Florida Police say a female student was attacked at her residence hall early Saturday morning, and because of some gutsy self defense, she isn't hurt."

"The unidentified student came home around 3:15 am Saturday when she heard a knock on the outside door of the Thomas Hall dormitory. She thought she recognized the man standing outside, and even though she realized she didn't know him once she opened the door, she let him in anyway, thinking he was visiting a friend. When she started up the stairs, he grabbed her by the throat." . . .

"Do not carry a gun or other deadly weapon. Possession of deadly weapons is prohibited by university policy and is never recommended as a preventative strategy."

"...They don’t understand. I didn’t leave the United States. It left me. It was a bait-and-switch operation. I signed on to one country, and they slipped another in under me. I want my money back."

"In the country where I grew up, if you found a naked intruder in your daughter’s bedroom with a Bowie knife and a hard-on, you shot him and arranged to have the rugs cleaned. The sheriff wasn’t greatly interested and the country prosecutor didn’t see anything to prosecute. The scum floating on the gene pool wasn’t a protected species. It wasn’t the driving engine of the culture. It was just scum."

"Today you would be charged with the use of excessive force. The cadaver’s family would sue. They would end up with your house unless they just ran you broke with legal bills. The outcome would depend on the racial make-up of you, the intruder, and the jury. Your daughter would be married with grandchildren before the courts reached any conclusion."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

With the passage of a handgun carry licensing law in Ohio on Jan. 8, that state joins 36 others with standardized "carry" laws on the books.

"New York in one of those 13 states that does not have a general carry-law provision," said State Sen. Dale M. Volker, R-Depew. Volker noted that standardized, statewide licensing laws do not exist because of the Sullivan Law amended in the 1940s in New York State. That law imposed restrictions on carrying handguns and extended the right of pistol permit issuance to county officials, rather than impose a general law with statewide standards.

Thomas H. King, president of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, says varying standards of handgun registration cause "law-abiding citizens to take their chances with the law (when possessing handguns)."
