"Late on the evening of Day Two of the SHOT show, I was met by several members of the gun industry and asked to have a private and serious discussion on the Second Amendment March. They shared with me concerns that the march would fail, and that, in the process, I would weaken the gun rights movement. I listened with gritted teeth as they told me that the time was not right for a march of this type, and that the gun owners of our country would not follow it. They reasoned that I had less than 100 days to earn all the money needed and that I would never make it. Inside, I was furious. Outside, I remained calm and listened to everything they had to say." ...

"Modern debates about the meaning of the Second Amendment have focused on whether it protects a right of individuals to keep and bear arms or, instead, a right of the states to maintain militia organizations like the National Guard. This question, however, was apparently never even discussed for a long time after the Bill of Rights was framed."

"The early discussions took the basic meaning of the amendment largely for granted and focused instead on whether it actually added anything significant to the original Constitution. The debate has shifted primarily because of subsequent developments in the Constitution and in constitutional law." ...

He was lawfully armed with two guns. The network awkwardly cropped video of the man so tightly it was impossible to see his skin. MSNBC's Contessa Brewer said: '... there are questions about whether this has racial overtones. I mean, here you have a man of color in the presidency and white people showing up with guns ...'"

"Otis McDonald, 76, says he needs a handgun to defend himself in his Chicago neighborhood. So in April 2008, the retired maintenance engineer agreed to serve as the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging Chicago’s 28-year-old handgun ban. Soon after, he walked into the police department, and, as his attorneys had directed, applied for a .22-caliber Beretta pistol, setting the lawsuit into motion. When that case is argued before the U.S. Supreme Court on March 2, McDonald will become the public face of one of the most important Second Amendment cases in history, says the Chicago Tribune." ...

A more apt word for modern juries' exercise of their constitutional power to soften the application of overly harsh laws in specific cases would be 'rectification.' Exercise of this corrective power relies on the jury's historic role, going back to Colonial times, of bringing the law as applied into better accord with current community human considerations." ...

The Second Amendment never sounded so good. In lieu of police layoffs and having fewer officers on Tulsa streets, more people are applying for a concealed carry license.

However, the look of students signing up is changing, because more women are enrolling. In the last decade, weapons instructor, Robert Welch says female enrollment has tripled.

"they need it more than us guys do," said Welch." "This is about personal self defense."

Welch said obtaining a concealed carry license is fairly simple. Students must attend an eight hour course, which covers how to use a gun. Upon completion, students must then apply for a license. Approval could take up to 90 days. Licenses are valid for five years.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government that is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. — JAMES MADISON
