In 2004, the Hornady Manufacturing Company introduced the .17 Hornady Mach 2 (.17 HM2) using a .22 LR case that had been extended and necked down. This cartridge should not be mistaken for the Hornady .17 HMR, which is based on the case of a .22 Magnum. The .17 HM2 is designed to take varmint at 100 yards or more, and performs the task admirably. It develops a similar amount of energy as the .22 LR in foot pounds, but it travels at a higher velocity – resulting in a flatter bullet trajectory. |

Over the past few months, I’ve watched Virginia, a state that has historically respected and understood the importance of the Second Amendment, move toward a dangerous new approach that would overturn this crucial constitutional safeguard. Red flag laws with no due process, redundant background checks, so-called “assault weapons” bans, and many other anti-gun policies have been proposed or discussed. But these policies will do little to address the mass violence problem in our society. |

The Tisas Zigana pistols have bounced from importer to importer over the years. We've previously reviewed them as brought in by LKCI and Zenith. Now SDS Imports is importing them and anyone who's spent time at the range with one knows why. They're great guns and very affordable. SDS Imports is importing the Zigana F and shorter Zigana K pistol models. We got our hands on the F model which SDS Imports is making available for $299. |

When it comes to industry trade shows, SHOT Show is as big as they come, and it’s easy to get lost in the sensory overload sprawling over 650,000 square-feet of real estate. Of course, as trade shows go and much to the chagrin of many, SHOT is not open to the public—rightly so, it’s purely industry business there. Fortunately, the NRA has become something of an expert in what ails folks hungry for hands-on access to all-things new across the industry by spearheading two of the industry’s top consumer shows, the annual Great American Outdoor Show (GAOS) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits; for 2020, the latter is scheduled for April 15 – 19, in Nashville, Tenn. |

A round of applause broke out after the Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners on Thursday narrowly approved a measure to declare the county a Second Amendment sanctuary.
Commissioners approved the measure 3-2, with Chairman Lee Gapczynski and Commissioners Mike Darga and Nancy Shutes supporting the measure. Vice Chairman Carl Altman and Commissioner John Chappa cast the dissenting votes.
The resolution is non-binding. All governments must follow the Constitution, and both state law and federal law trump local ordinances.
Many of those who spoke at Thursday’s meeting saw the resolution as a way to push back on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and legislators in Lansing... |

Riverton Republican Tim Salazar had nine town hall meetings last year. And in each of those meetings, he said, two issues came up more than any other: taxes and guns. And over the years, Salazar has represented those issues consistently. One of the Legislature’s most ardent supporters of the Second Amendment, Salazar has reflected his constituents’ pro-gun, anti-tax sentiments during his two terms in office.

A new study released by AAA this week reveals that an increasing number of drivers involved in fatal Washington State car crashes testing positive for THC has doubled since recreational marijuana use was okayed by voters in 2012, as reported by KING 5 News, the NBC affiliate in Seattle.
Authorities in New York are paying attention because there’s a move to legalize recreational pot use in that state, according to CYNCentral.com. |

I fear that we often put too much emphasis on guns and gear when we consider our own personal defense. A person can be armed with the latest firearm, the very best ammunition and still lose the fight. It happens because we fail to see the trouble brewing until it is right in our face. At that point, it may be entirely too late to put all that excellent equipment to use in time to make a difference. In addition to the surprise, we may have never given serious thought of what to do when violence is visited upon us. |

A little rain didn’t stop gun owners from heading out Saturday to a rally intended to spark more support for the Second Amendment. The BullZeye Second Amendment Rally, which featured a half dozen booths outside of BullZeye Shooting Sports on Market Street in Wilmington, sought to take the conversation over the protection of the Second Amendment off social media and get people talking in the real world.

I was a teenager when my dad and I bought my first firearm. He worked at Sears & Roebuck, so we purchased the Winchester Model 200 Ted Williams edition 12-ga. pump-action that they sold there. I was thrilled with the gun, and my dad promptly enrolled me in a hunter safety course. He took me pheasant hunting in Iowa one winter with my uncle and cousins, a great memory. I didn’t shoot my shotgun much in college, and after graduating from West Point I got busy with the Army and my own family, so I didn’t shoot for years—except, of course, for mandatory military weapons qualifications. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)] |
