-- Now let me understand this: Honest citizens have been disarmed and the English politicians are asking the unarmed public to "rat" on the drug criminals... I guess when the bad guys gang finds out who helped the police, that unarmed citizen can call 911... |

The "reassuring figure" of a uniformed man with an alsatian at his side... This is a public street but the man is not a public servant; he is not a policeman but a private - albeit "highly-trained" - security guard who keeps this Kensington avenue "free from crime."
The catch is that residents have to pay for the "peace of mind" they now enjoy; the scheme is funded by payments of up to £1,000 a year from householders. |

"Now, why exactly do you think the police (with federal aid, financing, and encouragement) won't quickly seek to develop technology which will allow an officer knocking on the door ... to use an `electronic master key' to `disable' any `smart guns' in the house -- and then quickly ban the manufacture of any gun that ISN'T a `smart gun' ... all for `the safety of the children,' of course?" - Vin Suprynowicz |

-- Humor in "security?"
The entire article:
"Since October, visitors at Arlington City Hall have had to pass through a metal detector and have their names written in a log book. When a security officer was asked what the names are used for, she replied: "In case the building burns down, we'll know who's in here." Is the log book fireproof?" |

Sheriff's officials said they would test a bullet found in the backpack of one of the students killed in the Columbine High School massacre after acknowledging that it hadn't been matched to a specific weapon.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department initially said ballistics tests proved that officers who shot into the school library during the April 20, 1999, attack didn't fire the bullet. |

The Utah Legislature, "which is so pro-gun it lets people carry concealed weapons into the legislative chamber," may air its perennial debate over gun control before thousands of Olympic visitors this year.
"No one's a bigger gun advocate than me, but I'm very worried we'll start issuing concealed weapons permits on a carte blanche basis," GOP Sen. Bill Hickman said. "They ought to have some proficiency. They ought to know how to handle a gun and know which end a bullet comes out of." |

Nashville residents hailed Martin as a hero when he chased and killed a knife-wielding man who had just robbed the woman who operates a flower shop next to his business.
But Davidson County prosecutors decided that Martin was "not justified" in shooting "a homeless man with a drug problem," and are trying to convict him of second-degree "murder".
'I don't deserve this. This can't be the way our government and our justice system are supposed to work,' he says on his site, WaynesDefense.com |

I now think the only way to control handgun use is to prohibit the guns. And the only way to do that is to change the Constitution. — M. Gartner, then President of NBC News, USA Today, January 16, 1992, pg. A9 |
