“The tragic circumstances of Mr. Locke’s death were completely avoidable, “stated Doar. “It’s yet another example where a no-knock warrant has resulted in the death of an innocent person. In this case, as in others, the public should expect and receive full transparency and accountability from law enforcement agencies that serve and protect our local communities.”
“Amir Locke, a lawful gun owner, should still be alive, “added Strawser. “Black men, like all citizens, have a right to keep and bear arms. Black men, like all citizens, have the right to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable search and seizure.” |

On Tuesday, Missouri senators debated a “stand your ground” bill that backers say will strengthen the state's self-defense laws but that a prosecutor has dubbed the “Make Murder Legal Act.”
Republican Sen. Eric Burlison's bill seeks to give shooters and other assailants the benefit of the doubt that they were acting in self-defense.
If passed, it would mean that prosecutors could not bring charges against people who reasonably believed they were acting in self-defense. Police would need to find probable cause that shooters or other assailants acted unlawfully before arresting them. |

A jury in Carroll County acquitted a woman charged with shooting her boyfriend after he allegedly abused her.
Audrey Cole, 34, had been charged with murder and felonious assault after she shot her boyfriend, Matthew Mott, 32, on May 3, 2021 inside the home they shared in Mechanicstown, Ohio — about 65 miles west of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The jury acquitted her on Wednesday on both counts after her lawyers argued that she shot Mott in self-defense, Law & Crime reported.
Cole told police in the hours after the shooting that Mott had assaulted her and put her head through their bedroom wall before leaving her alone in the room, the Carroll County Messenger reported. |

Ruger’s LCP and LCP II .380 Auto pistols have been frontrunners in the race to offer effective stopping power from a pocket pistol, but to maintain minimal size and weight, these guns have had to give up a few things, including magazine capacity. The original LCP and LCP II are extraordinarily light and small, but they hold just six .380 rounds in the magazine. If you’ve always been keen on carrying a small .380 Auto but weren’t willing to sacrifice round count, I have some wonderful news for you: The LCP Max has arrived. |

Over the past few years, Concealed carry semi-automatics have come a long way, with the release of micro 9s like the Sig P365 and Smith and Wesson M&P Shield. However, most of these pistols can be a little expensive, and though they have higher magazine capacities, they don’t offer the extreme concealability that a single stack 380 ACP pistol offers. We’ll going to look at how to optimize your target acquisition with the Best Concealed Carry Gun With Built-in Laser options. |

A bill to help gun owners and gun-rights groups seek civil damages from governmental bodies that pass firearms restrictions was vetoed on Thursday by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf.
The legislation would have given a pathway to the courts for people adversely impacted by ordinances, rules or other actions by counties, townships, boroughs and cities that violate limits in state law.
The aggrieved parties would have been able to collect damages and to seek a court injunction against the laws. |

On Thursday, Brown, now 26, of York, was found not guilty of first- and third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter after a four-day trial in the York County Court of Common Pleas.
The jury deliberated for about five hours.
In her closing argument, Heather Reiner, Brown’s new attorney, said her client was “viciously attacked” and had “no choice but to defend himself.”
“This is not the execution the commonwealth wants you to believe,” Reiner said. "Jacquez did not provoke this fight. He was in a kill-or-be-killed situation.” |

The Missouri Supreme Court will hear arguments Monday in a case challenging a new gun law opponents say bars police from helping enforce certain federal firearms laws.
The Second Amendment Preservation Act, which went into effect in August, declares “invalid” many federal gun regulations that don’t have an equivalent in Missouri law, including statutes covering weapons registration and tracking, and possession of firearms by some domestic violence offenders.
Local departments are barred from enforcing them, or risk being sued for $50,000 by private citizens who believe their Second Amendment rights have been violated. |

A court case where a Wichita police officer shot at a dog and hit a 9-year-old girl instead goes beyond whether he can be prosecuted and could set limits on how far you can go in defending yourself, Kansas Supreme Court justices acknowledged Thursday.
During oral arguments in the case involving former Wichita officer Dexter Betts, justices noted they aren’t just deciding whether Betts acted properly, but determining the limits on all Kansans’ use of self-defense when it may cause harm to bystanders.
Justice Dan Biles drew an analogy to a person who’s threatened at a crowded concert. |

Not only is Kerrie Ann Auclair the secretary for the Berkley Conservation Commission — she's also the owner of the town's "Dirty Bird Nail Salon" and a certified pistol instructor.
The latter designation is just as important to the Berkley resident as are her other two titles, she said.
She and Renee Gagne of Taunton volunteer as co-leaders of the Massachusetts chapter of "Armed Women of America," a non-profit organization dedicated to educating women in the proper use of firearms and the art of self-protection. |

Tens of thousands of ordinary people across the Eastern European nation are learning to handle weapons, render first aid and perform other combat-related skills, as the threat of Russian invasion grows each day.
Citizens are turning to experts in firearms, and even just family members, in hopes of surviving an attack and facing down their belligerent neighbor.
“My daughter, now 23, taught me how to shoot,” Vlad Horbovetz, a surgeon and volunteer medic, told The Post.
”Russian boots on the ground would be catastrophic, and we believe in the peaceful way of the gun,” he added. |

President Joe Biden said Thursday that "no amendment is absolute" while discussing the Second Amendment and repeated a debunked claim that cannons were prohibited when the amendment was passed.
"There’s no violation of the Second Amendment right," Biden said in New York City while discussing background checks and other ways to address gun crime. "We talk like. There’s no amendment that’s absolute. When the amendment was passed it didn’t say anybody can own a gun, any kind of gun, and any kind of weapon. You couldn’t buy a cannon when this amendment was passed so there’s no reason why you should be able to buy certain assault weapons. But that’s another issue." |

Gun shows at the state fair could soon be a thing of the past in California.
A proposed law would ban the sale of firearms or ammunition on state property, effectively barring gun shows from being held at any of California’s 73 state fairgrounds.
Senate Bill 915, introduced by Sen. Dave Min, D-Costa Mesa, was unveiled Thursday. The bill has yet to be assigned to a committee, but Min said in an interview with The Sacramento Bee that he expects it to go before the Senate Public Safety Committee first. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I've realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it's much, much bigger than that. I've come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated. — Charlton Heston |
