"'Recently we've unearthed some sickening corruption in a nearby town and it's led to unlawful arrests and gun confiscations from two veterans that are also Oath Keepers,' a Friday Facebook message from James Franklin, Regional Director for Come and Take It Texas - West Texas Region, began. 'Over the past week this issue has gotten even more complicated as the police in the town refuse to file police reports about one of their residents making terroristic threats against our group's members.'"

"Franklin was referring to a local resident who opposes lawful open carry of long guns to the point of pledging to inflict harm on people he calls 'cowards.'" ...

"A new study by Northeastern University researchers of mass-murder trends shakes up a slew of liberal shibboleths regarding guns, background checks and the frequency of attacks. Indeed, findings by James Alan Fox, a criminologist, and graduate student Monica J. DeLateur tear asunder the 'solutions' of anti-gun zealots."

"That begins with the myth that mass murders (defined by the FBI as a single incident that claims four or more lives) are on the rise. They are not." ...

"The main concept of the Second Amendment is not simply the right to bear arms. It is to sharpen our civilized awareness of the implications of self-defense — nature’s fight or flight mechanism for primal survival."

"The real thrust of the Second Amendment reveals the right to self-defense, ostensibly by bearing arms, as the protector of our right to peace. The true hope of the Second Amendment is that peace will be the guarantor of self-defense." ...

"Of course I have already been accused of 'homophobia' for dealing with this subject. ... My motivation here is tyrannophobia, if I may coin a term. But more of that in my next letter."

"For now, I'd like to deal with some evidence out of your own mouth that several readers and one former intelligence officer brought to my attention since my first letter. "After the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary school, where 20 children and six adults were fatally shot, President Obama urged Congress to pass new federal gun control legislation."

"Democrats in Congress couldn't muster enough votes to oblige him.
In time, the Dec. 14, 2012, shooting faded from national headlines. But it remained on the minds of people in Newtown, Conn., and neighboring communities. Officials in Massachusetts, which already had some of the nation's toughest gun control laws, convened a panel of experts and asked them to recommend reforms that might prevent mass shootings."

"Those experts have now released their long-awaited report." ...

... "This is your standard reactionary nonsense, guaranteed to have no effect in a state that already boasts some of the strongest gun-control laws in the United States and designed primarily to make people who know nothing about firearms feel better about themselves. But it is what comes next that should horrify one and all — regardless of their politics:"
"It also said Massachusetts should require anyone wanting to purchase a hunting rifle or a shotgun to pass those standards of suitability. That could allow local police chiefs to deny gun purchases to people who have been arrested, but not convicted, of a crime." ...

"Thanks for advertising on the front page that CSI is safe for any nut to go shooting students on campus! When are the newspapers going to wake up to how they contribute to the problem?"

"Something the liberal news media has forgot to tell you:"

"The Fort Hood killer was a registered Democrat. The Columbine shooters, too young to vote but their parents were registered Democrats and openly liberal. Virginia Tech murder wrote hate mail to President Bush. Colorado theater killer was a registered Democrat and a staff worker on Obama’s campaign and an Occupy Wall Street participant. The attacker of the school children in Newtown was a registered Democrat and hated Christians." ...

... "All the amendments are subject to limitations, as in the First Amendment (one cannot shout 'fire' in a crowded theater). I believe that easily accessible firearms contributed to the massacres in Connecticut and Colorado. The right to bear arms should be appropriately limited." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd. — Alexis de Tocqueville
