I used to be a 1911 guy, until I took an arrow to the knee. No, wait, I’m mixing my memes. I did used to be a die-hard 1911 fan, back in the days of diminished-capacity magazines when it made sense to carry eight rounds instead of 10, rather than 15, 17 or 20. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the 1911; in fact, there’s plenty right. It’s just that once standard-capacity magazines were back in circulation, it made more sense to carry a pistol with 15 or more rounds on tap than seven or eight. No, I don’t plan on missing much, but I also don’t know how badly my aim will degrade when the target is moving, not made out of paper and shooting back at me. I want every advantage I can get.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas probably put it best in a remark to Fox & Friends Tuesday morning about the chaos with the Iowa Caucus Monday evening: “Dems, right now, they can’t stand in a gymnasium and count who stands under which sign and they’re the ones that want to be in charge of our healthcare and everything else in our life.”
That would include convincing Americans they can set and guide national gun policy. There are a lot of gun owners in Iowa. Chances are, they were not impressed Monday night. |

The Lovettsville Town Council on Thursday is scheduled to vote on a proclamation in support of the Second Amendment, but not before a crowd of armed supporters fills the town office. The proposed proclamation reads that the Town Council would support and defend the United States and Virginia constitutions through opposition to legislation that “infringes upon the right to keep and bear arms.” The council “strongly disagrees” with Gov. Ralph Northam and General Assembly members who they say threatening to withhold funds from localities that support residents’ rights to bear arms, and with any actions that would place the National Guard in opposition to law enforcement agencies and residents.

Used by police, military and security personnel for years with great effect, rubber shot pellets offer a less lethal option without sacrificing a strong response. The 1.5-inch rubber bullets were designed as an indirect fire projectile, initially used in Europe to quell riots in the 1970s. Unfortunately, during The Troubles of the early 1970s in Northern Ireland, the bullets were used as direct fire munitions, causing many serious wounds and some deaths. This lead to the development of rubber bullets and buckshot to be used in direct fire mode, without the likelihood of causing injury as older rubber bullets. However, it must be noted that any firearm projectile has the potential to be lethal – even when loaded with rubber buckshot.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff says he can’t support a Second Amendment sanctuary. This comes a day after dozens of citizens called for just that. Several county residents stood up in front of lawmakers Monday night asking them to protect their constitutional rights by becoming a Second Amendment sanctuary. After hearing impassioned arguments on both sides from two dozen speakers during public comment period, the Dare County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution expressing its support for the U.S. Constitution and specifically, the Second Amendment, at its Feb 4. meeting. The vote was 6-0 with Commissioner Jim Tobin not in attendance.

A man who had just spent more than 30 years in prison on a murder conviction was caught with a loaded gun & marijuana in his SUV after he accidentally made a wrong turn onto the Ambassador Bridge and ended up in Canada, officials said.
Johnson was driving a white four-door Chevrolet Equinox on Jan. 22 when he crossed the Detroit Ambassador Bridge from the United States into Canada, according to authorities.
Johnson was escorted back to the U.S. at 6:23 p.m. Jan. 22. He admitted he had been released from prison in October and that he was on probation, police said.
When asked about the marijuana and the gun, Johnson said he didn’t know they were in the SUV.
Johnson faces a charge of felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. |

A bill to toughen Virginia’s law against letting minors access loaded guns failed in a Senate committee Monday morning as two Democrats joined Republicans in blocking it.
Under current law, it’s a misdemeanor offense to “recklessly” leave a loaded, unsecured gun accessible to a child under 14. As drafted, Senate Bill 581, introduced by Sen. Janet Howell, D-Fairfax, would have raised the age to 18 and made violations a felony offense.

A bill that would allow the seizure of guns and ammunition from someone deemed mentally ill and a danger to themselves or others has defeated in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The measure's sponsor is Republican Senator Art Rusch of Vermillion. He says this proposal is an "extreme risk protection order" and provides for due process for those accused of being dangerous, Dakota Radio Group reports.

The gun-slinging lawman, a relic of 19th century Wild West saloon card rooms, soon might be spotted slamming drinks, gun on his or her hip, trying to win money in 21st century Indiana casinos. Forest Park city employees who are not police officers cannot bring their firearms onto city property, after the City Council voted 4-1 on the ban. The vote follows concerns about employee firearms in the Public Works and Fire and Emergency Services departments. Councilman Allan Mears was the lone vote against the ban. Employees must lock their firearms in their cars while on city property.

Less than a year after the the passage of the “red flag” law — Colorado’s first gun reform since 2013 — Democrats say they’re going to introduce two more gun-related bills in the next few weeks. The first would require gun owners to securely store their firearms. The aim is to prevent children from accessing guns and either intentionally or accidentally causing harm, said Rep. Kyle Mullica, a Northglenn Democrat who’s sponsoring the bill. He added that the bill will mainly concern how guns are stored inside homes, as opposed to businesses.
