Recently the comedian Sacha Baron Cohen (the same creator of Borat, Bruno, and Ali G) released the first episode of his new Showtime series called Who Is America? – where he poses as an Israeli "anti-terror" expert, Col. Erran Morad. The first episode has caused a lot of controversy, and for good reason: Several well-known gun rights advocates proclaim their support of arming children in school to "stop bad guys," even going so far as advocating for arming toddlers via a fictitious "Kinder-Guardian" program presented by Cohen's character.

At the behest of a gun rights group, prosecutors in Western New York have reiterated their position on enforcing the SAFE Act’s seven-round limit. The unanimous position is, simply, there will be no enforcement of the state law. 2AWNY, a group dedicated to supporting Second Amendment rights, earlier this year contacted district attorneys in Western New York, including Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming and Livingston counties, about whether they would “immediately be halting enforcement of the SAFE Act seven-round limit.”

Lewis County commissioners turned sympathetic ears toward citizens who gathered Monday to urge them to disregard the gun regulations passed by Washington voters last fall — but it’s unclear if the commissioners plan to take action on the group’s proposed ordinance to declare a “sanctuary county.” “It disturbs me that there seems to be a continuing movement toward taking these basic civil rights away from us,” said county commissioner Bobby Jackson. “While we don’t agree with the law, as county commissioners we are bound to uphold the law.”

A Democratic Connecticut state legislator introduced a bill on Monday that would raise the tax on ammunition in the state by 50 percent, prompting an immediate condemnation by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and concerns from legal observers that the legislation would be unconstitutional. Jillian Gilchrest, a freshman legislator from Hartford, said that a companion bill was being introduced in the state Senate by fellow freshman Democrat Will Haskell. Superior Court, according to the people briefed on the plan.

The topic of guns is back at the Statehouse – with House Democrats and community groups pushing Monday for an open discussion on firearms regulations. “I support the Second Amendment, and I support common-sense measures to reduce gun violence,” said Rep. Carey Hamilton, D-Indianapolis. She and fellow members of her caucus have authored several bills to tighten state gun laws, but House Republicans who control the committees have not given them hearings. Instead, the GOP is considering reducing fees for gun permits and letting people carry guns to church even if the property also houses a school.
