Alcona County will not be known as a Second Amendment sanctuary, as several commissioners took issue with the connotation of the word.
Instead, commissioners on Wednesday unanimously supported an amended resolution that struck the word “sanctuary” but declared the county’s support for the Second Amendment, the county sheriff, the county prosecutor, and other law enforcement entities that may function in the county. Many supporters of the original resolution expressed disappointment in the decision.

The Alcona County Board of Commissioners will be asked today to consider a resolution proclaiming Alcona County a Second Amendment sanctuary.
Commissioners meet at 10 a.m. at the county courthouse, 106 N. 5th St.
Alcona County Clerk Stephany Eller said Mikado Township resident David Adams asked the resolution to be placed on today’s agenda.
If passed, the county would reaffirm their support for Alcona County Sheriff Scott Stephenson and Prosecutor Thomas Weichel and give them the discretion “to not enforce against any citizen an unconstitutional firearms law.”
Adams’ request comes at a time when county commissioners across the state are considering similar resolutions. |

An Upper Peninsula lawmaker known for his Second Amendment advocacy had two firearms stolen from his Lansing home over the weekend.
One of the firearms is the same one Rep. Beau LaFave, R-Iron Mountain, brought to the House of Representatives Jan. 29 ahead of Gov. Gretchen Whtimer’s State of the State address.
LaFave posed with the pistol outside the House chambers shortly before the governor’s address and posted the photo on Twitter, with the message:
“I open carried in the capital (sic) today to protest Governor Whitmer’s proposed unconstitutional gun laws. If she wants to disarm law-abiding Michiganders, she can start with me on the House Floor. Tonight is the Michigan State of the State. #SOSmiSOTS”

Dear Delta County Commissioners:
I am concerned about your current consideration in adopting the proposed non-binding resolution that declares Delta County a sanctuary city for the 2nd Amendment. This resolution does not have any legal recourse, as our lawmakers and our citizens are obligated to follow the laws that are enacted, which makes this resolution plainly a political statement. Specifically, this is a political statement that is divisive, as it does not reflect all Delta County citizens wishes.
I think that this resolution could have a negative effect on our county economically. |

As the Oregon Legislature begins this week in Salem with potential to enact stronger gun control laws, voters may again get the choice to reinforce Second Amendment protections throughout Umatilla County in May.
Jesse Bonifer, a regional liaison with the militia group Oregon III%, and other Second Amendment activists started gathering signatures at Pendleton’s Roy Raley Park on Saturday in an attempt to land the Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance on the county’s May ballot. |

The group Oregon Moms Demand Action and student supporters rallied at the Capitol Wednesday, urging lawmakers to pass House Bill 4005, legislation that would require firearms to be stored securely.
In Oregon, there is currently no requirement for gun owners to secure their firearms. HB 4005 would require gun owners to store and lock away all firearms when they are not in use. |

To make its way on to the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners agenda, a resolution on the subject would need to be requested by at least three commissioners. Of the six that currently hold office, three — all of them Democrats — explicitly said that they either oppose the resolution or support gun safety measures that directly conflict with it. One commissioner favors the measure and two did not specify their position. |

Demands that the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators create a resolution declaring the county a Second Amendment sanctuary drew about 70 members of the public Monday night, all in support.
Lawmakers had to move the meeting from the county Legislative Chambers to the St. Lawrence County Supreme Courtroom due to the numbers.
Among the crowd, 14 people signed up to address the board, many addressing their concerns that their Second Amendment rights were being infringed upon by the state, many citing the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013, or SAFE Act. |

The Illinois State Police is being sued for allegedly wrongfully depriving two men of the right to bear arms for self-defense.
A federal lawsuit alleges ISP did not act quickly enough on the applications for firearm owners identification cards and concealed carry permits. The lawsuit also states that for more than five years, ISP took more than $29.5 million from the State Police Firearms Service Fund, the State Police Operations Assistance Fund, and the State Police Service Funday.
The money was to be used to administer the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act, background checks for firearm-related services, and concealed licensing pursuant to the Firearms Concealed Carry Act. |

The Pittsford Select Board has unanimously supported a resolution making the Sunshine Village a gun owner sanctuary.
The resolution claims the right to nullify, or invalidate, laws that infringe on what a gun rights organization calls “the lawful use of firearms.”
The five-member board approved the move last week; but residents of Pittsford won’t be voting on it.
The original request came at the board’s regular meeting Jan. 22 from Florence resident Brian Wood, who asked the selectboard to approve a Town Meeting Day ballot resolution. |

A proposed bill, if passed, would allow students to have a concealed carry gun at public higher education institutions. The idea sparked conversations inside and outside the classroom at the University of Tennessee
"It makes me a little nervous, guns, in general, make me nervous, I'm just an anxious person," Gray, a student, said.
Some students said they were indifferent about guns on campus. Many students were for the move saying it's a means of self-defense.
The proposal states students would need a carry permit and be in compliance with state law. Some students said lawmakers could use their energy elsewhere. |

Justices on Florida’s highest court questioned Tuesday whether a proposed ballot initiative to restrict assault weapons is too confusing for voters. Justices worried that voters might be confused about what happens to such a firearm when the legal owner dies.
The Florida Supreme Court heard oral arguments about a proposed citizens’ initiative to amend the state constitution to ban assault weapons. Those arguing against it – including the state’s Republican attorney general – said its language was ambiguous and voters would be confused about its scope.
...
This initiative was originally proposed for the 2020 ballot, but it failed to get the required 766,200 signatures by Saturday’s deadline, falling far short with 147,304. |
