... "The thing is, what I think, or what you think is a moot point as far as Saturday’s planned actions are concerned. Regardless of sentiments, fears, cautions and warnings, it’s 'Game on,' and the activists will not be deterred. This is the new paradigm all of us, but especially the 'gun groups,' need to get used to, because it effectively nullifies any 'compromises' some may be inclined to agree to. ..." ...

... "For starters, 'ownership' is a legal and moral term. There can be a big difference between a gun 'possessor' and a gun 'owner,' and a huge difference in terms of how the two groups behave."

"... While the 'reports' will start out talking 'gun deaths' to sway the headline surfers and the reading-challenged, it turns out what’s really being highlighted are 'rates.' And those hardly reflect real numbers to show where more people are being murdered by criminals with guns they obtained illegally." ...

"'The shooting sports in America thrive today because of the great work of the [NRA]. Whether it’s promoting firearms safety, training legions of certified firearms instructors or fighting to protect every American’s second amendment rights, the NRA has proven over and over again it is the best friend a gun owner can have. And thanks to their generous sponsorship of our awards banquet, the NRA is also a great friend to both IDPA and Smith & Wesson,' said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA." ...

"'I hate handguns. Handguns are used to shoot people and as long as they are around people will shoot each other. That’s a simple fact.' Those are not the words of Liam Neeson, the bankable action star whose recent anti-gun comments resulted in firearm maker PARA USA declaring that it 'will no longer provide firearms for use in films starring Liam Neeson' and calling on its 'friends in the firearms industry to do the same.' ..."

"But don’t expect a boycott of the upcoming Bond film Spectre by handgun maker Walther. ..."

"Anyone having the audacity to use the term, 'Nazi' in the same sentence with New Jersey or any state in the U.S., is without a doubt, at the least afflicted with acute paranoia. To write, 'Nazi gun laws a model for New Jersey,' as stated by Mr. Bruce Eden in his Jan. 30 letter, is to ignore the simple fact that we are not living in Nazi Germany, but in the United States of America." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Bill Thompson of Piscataway then spends almost 800 words completely ignoring the 8 specific aspects of the "Nazi gun laws" mirrored in New Jersey's laws that Mr. Eden cited.

"'European leaders scrambled Thursday to try and forge a diplomatic deal to end fighting in eastern Ukraine, in an apparent bid to head off U.S. consideration of lethal military aid for the Ukrainian government in its war against Russian-backed separatists,' foxnews.com reports. 'At the same time, a bipartisan call in Congress for the U.S. to arm Ukraine was only growing, with lawmakers saying the military aid 'is past due.' However, critics in the firearms community will quickly argue this has nothing to do with genuine 'safety,' but is merely an attempt to revive a gun control measure whose effectiveness may be questionable." ...

"The Louisiana law aimed at removing guns from those convicted of domestic violence and copied in a South Carolina bill headed to the Senate floor has had little impact since its passage last year, according to some defense lawyers and prosecutors in that state."

"In fact, some prosecutors told The Greenville News, domestic violence cases have actually increased. And some problems have surfaced with the law, such as a lack of a uniform method for removing the guns from their owners and the failure of some convictions to make it onto a federal database used for background checks used for firearms purchases." ...

"The Garfield County Library board voted unanimously Thursday night to amend its regulations to ban open carry of firearms, but allow licensed concealed carry on library property. The decision was essentially the moderate option out of three approaches the library district could have pursued. The board could also have amended its current policy against weapons to read 'in accordance with state law,' which would allow both open and concealed carry, or else banned both open and concealed carry and put metal detectors and security in place." ...
