"As a former state police trooper, I can state emphatically, that I oppose the move away from local policing to a heavily armed 'national' quasi-military police force policy. You need look no further than New Orleans after Katrina. You could watch California Highway Patrol officers and many out of state police agencies going door to door, disarming innocent civilians. Police officers were on a mission to confiscate firearms from people trying to protect themselves. Observing this, was to incite a first class riot in my home." ... |

"Five months ago, The Second Amendment Foundation called on U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to investigate Bloomberg for obstruction of justice relating to Bloomberg's 'rogue' operation."
"SAF founder Alan Gottlieb said he has just received a letter from W. Larry Ford of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, confirming that the agency 'is investigating the matter in order to determine if violations of federal firearms laws occurred.'"

"It was still early, so I circled the two miles around to the top of the clear-cut hoping to see more elk, but saw none. I stood camouflaged in front of a blackberry patch and waited about 30 minutes before I let out some cow calls, but nothing returned my call. Tormented by my decision to pass on the 6-point bull, I silently made my way to another vantage point, approximately 40 yards, that would allow me to watch the backside of the clear-cut while hidden behind fir boughs. Shortly after my move, three young bulls came walking out of the tall timber lining the backside of the clear-cut! My patience was going to pay off." ... |

"Two years ago Ohioans For Concealed Carry joined a formal Petition for Rule Making with the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL). The goal of the project was to encourage the Department of the Interior (DOI) to allow local jurisdictions to adopt local laws with respect to carrying a firearm. In other words, if the National Park was in a state where it was legal to carry a firearm, it would be legal within that National Park, whereas it is a crime today to do so."
"On Tuesday, the VCDL announced that the DOI has responded with a resounding 'No!' [.pdf file], citing some of the most arrogant and ignorant reasons imaginable to deny the two-year old request. ..." ... |

"The other day while perusing the pages of The High Road I learned that a petition is being circulated to create a national holiday and postage stamp to celebrate the life of John Moses Browning."
"Interesting idea - an uphill battle will lie ahead of that, I thought to myself. I can see the anti-gunners fighting this idea tooth and nail. The idea of honoring the life of a gun maker would truly cause them to have a conniption. Perhaps the very reason to pursue this, I thought."
"No, not the having a conniption part, but the idea of paying homage to the legitimate and much needed talent of Americas gun designers and manufacturers." ... |

"Joanie Beise has lived in a house with guns for the nearly 34 years she's been married, but only recently has she considered arming herself."
"'There are a lot of crazy people out there,' Beise said, completing her gun and self-defense training. 'It would just be nice to know that I have my little friend with me if I need it.'"
"Minnesota law allows residents such as Beise to use deadly force if confronted with the threat of death or great bodily harm _ but when and how residents should use that force is not always clear-cut. The decision can be a matter of life and death, as a series of recent home invasions illustrates." ... |

"On the first full day of the new Congress, US Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-Garden City) introduced a measure that would force states to comply with an automated system that does background checks on those attempting to keep guns out of the hands of convicted felons and others. While there are some who are calling it 'the first major anti-gun bill' of the Democrat-controlled Congress, and a threat to Second Amendment rights, McCarthy and others claim that the measure is simply a way to bring the nation up to speed on a system authorized and already in place." ... |
