A man arrested in connection with a 19-year-old’s shooting death in Springfield will not face a murder charge, a prosecutor said Tuesday. A Clark County grand jury declined to indict Derrick Clerk, 26, of Springfield, for murder, Clark County Assistant Prosecutor Brian Driscoll said.

The prosecutor in Washington state's most-populated county is calling on police agencies to investigate people who try to buy guns when they are legally prohibited from owning them. “They’ve shown an intent to get a gun, even when the law says they can’t have one. I want to know why that person is trying to get the gun,” said Dan Satterberg.

New Mexico gun owners must immediately rally opposition to two identical anti-gun measures that would criminalize most private transfers of firearms in the Land of Enchantment. House Bill 50, NRA-opposed legislation banning private firearms sales and transfers, is sponsored by Democrat state Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard and is receiving full support from the Bloomberg-funded gun-ban group Everytown for Gun Safety. On Saturday, the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee approved the measure by a 3-2 vote.

A Warren County High School student was shot to death Tuesday, January 31 during an incident on Spurlock Road near Blues Hill community. Cannon County Sheriff's Department termed the incident a case of self-defense with the District Attorney's Office expected to making a ruling.

A bill that would repeal prohibitions on gun magazines that hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition was targeted Monday by Democrats in the state Senate. Senate Bill 7 would repeal controversial legislation put in place in 2013 that limits the capacity of magazines Coloradans can own. It was passed on a voice vote despite opposition speeches from several Democrats.

Gov. Eric Greitens’ administration has reversed a short-lived policy barring most visitors and employees from bringing concealed weapons into the state Capitol. On Monday, new signs were erected outside the building noting that the statehouse was no longer off limits to firearms if people have permits to carry concealed guns.

The Wrap introduced the film — which co-stars Goldie Hawn as Schumer’s mother — by writing: “Fox released a new trailer this morning for May movie Snatched, which features the two funnywomen going all action-star on a bunch of kidnappers. And this time, they’ve got a gun.”

An on-camera stunt apparently designed to make a point about civil liberties ended in the arrest of two men Sunday. Police in Dearborn, MI, said they charged the men with breach of peace after they walked into a police station wearing tactical vests, one of them carrying an AP-14 firearm and a handgun.

The legality of a gun range was the topic Monday evening during the public comment period of the Randolph County Board of Commissioners. Andrew Lasine, a lawyer representing Carolina Guns & Gear which operates the gun range at 5068 U.S. 64, Franklinville, spoke to the board in support of the range. Nearby residents had complained to the county about the noise of gunfire, which they said scares their horses and other animals.

Representatives in our state government expect a bill outlawing the carrying of guns while intoxicated in the coming weeks. Even though the law is already in effect for handguns, this one would include rifles. According to State Representative Gina Hinojosa, it won't affect hunters.

The sponsor of legislation to weaken "Shannon's Law' agreed Tuesday to stop trying to allow people to fire off guns in a city within a quarter-mile of any residence. Rep. Tony Rivero, R-Peoria, said there was too much pushback to his proposal from police and prosecutors who complained of the danger to public safety. That opposition apparently left him without sufficient votes to get the measure approved Tuesday by the House as scheduled.

While some victims of domestic violence would be able to possess a gun for 60 days without a permit under a bill debated at the statehouse, opponents argue the last thing a violent home needs is the presence of a firearm. “In the last report of 100 deaths, 77 separate incidents, 62 out of the hundred were committed with a firearm,” said Laura Berry of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, citing a recent fatal domestic violence study.

Pittsburgh police have charged a man with drunken driving and fighting with officers who allegedly found him semi-conscious behind the wheel of a car while wearing pink lingerie. Police say 51-year-old Daniel Marchese was also exposing himself when they arrived to find him in the running car, going in and out of consciousness in the middle of an intersection Monday afternoon.

I suspect that the argument of what rifle cartridge is the best "all-around" caliber for Alaska big game hunting has burned as many calories in heated debate as what truck is better, Ford or Chevy. Forests have been decimated to publish various opinions. When we moved to Alaska in 1971, I went back through old magazines my dad had and read everything I could find on the subject. I never experienced Nirvana, nothing seemed conclusive.

A Kansas House committee is expected to vote as early as Wednesday on one of two bills that would roll back part of the state's requirements to allow people to carry concealed weapons in most public buildings. Rep. John Barker, R-Abilene, who chairs the House Federal and State Affairs Committee, said last week that he intended to work on one of the bills Wednesday, but as of Tuesday afternoon he had not publicly announced which bill that would be.

Montanans who don’t pay their child support could be denied hunting, fishing and trapping licenses, under a bill presented Tuesday by Republican state Sen. Mike Lang. Lang, of Malta, told the Senate Judiciary Committee that his bill wouldn’t automatically deny someone’s licenses if they’re behind on child support – but would give child-support enforcement personnel an additional tool to tackle an ongoing problem.

Florida could soon have looser gun laws. Or tighter gun laws. Or something. Numerous gun bills await the Legislature when it convenes March 7. From the right we have a full-frontal assault by Sen. Greg Steube, who filed a comprehensive bill — since broken into smaller proposals — to allow open display of firearms in courthouses, government meetings, on college campuses and in airport baggage claim areas.

When the GOP-controlled House voted last Thursday to overturn an Obama-era regulation that prevented some mentally ill people from purchasing firearms, anti-gun Democrats howled. They mocked the Republican Party for being such lapdogs to the National Rifle Association (NRA) that they would do something as plainly stupid as giving guns to people who are unstable and unpredictable.

Lake County correctional officers are once more suing their sheriff and county, this time claiming breach of contract in connection with their ability to carry guns. The December lawsuit alleges current Sheriff Brian Martin has violated two terms of a 2011 legal settlement among the officers, the county and previous sheriff, Frank Rivero.

Tragedy struck a Northside neighborhood in Jacksonville the first week of February when when an 8-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 5-year-old sister and injured his 4-year-old friend. The kids were playing with the gun when they were home alone. The owner of the gun has since been arrested, but the incident begs the questions: When should parents teach their kids about gun safety and how?

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is coming under scrutiny from gun control activists. Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, raised concerns Tuesday that DeVos may not protect students from being exposed to gun violence.
