... "How DO we maintain our liberties when all the levers of power are in the hands of the domestic enemies of the Constitution? Well. I’ll tell you. WE SIMPLY REFUSE TO BE COMPLICIT IN OUR OWN VICTIMIZATION."

"The citizens of Connecticut answered that question with armed civil disobedience. They simply refused to obey the law demanding that they register their semi-automatic rifles and ... the standard capacity magazines that those rifles use – and there were and are literally MILLIONS of them. They accepted the fact that their own state had just declared them Class D felons – They accepted it and then they quietly and politiely – with their silent non-compliance – told the Connecticut politicians to TAKE THEIR LAW AND GO STRAIGHT TO HELL!" ...

... "'NYPD Has a Plan to Magically Turn Anyone It Wants Into a Felon,' Gawker Justice observes in a more hard-edged assessment that includes examples of resisting arrest charges being deliberately unjustly applied. And it’s that felony rap that should most outrage right to keep and bear arms advocates, because such convictions will result in lifetime prohibitions against owning guns, outcomes Bratton and his boss, socialist mayor Bill de Blasio, wouldn't mind seeing more of. Understand these are people who want to deploy with machine guns to control protesters, a wish they've apparently publicly backed down from -- for now." ...

"Alabama blogger and gun rights activist Mike Vanderboegh, appearing at a Saturday protest in Olympia, referred to a Jan. 15 incident inside the Capitol that resulted in a ban on open carry in the Senate and House viewing galleries, dubbed one of the participants in that exercise 'a moron' in a YouTube video that may be seen here."

"He was alluding to a demonstration of about 15 people who entered the House gallery at the end of the mid-January event. Photographs from that event have been seen in various newspaper accounts. Saturday’s small demonstration was to protest the ban. Was Vanderboegh being fair? Was his criticism justified?" ...

"With a new, Obama-appointed Surgeon General with a long history of anti-gun advocacy, we now see a resurgence of the Prohibitionists’ efforts to have firearms ownership be excoriated as a health and safety risk to Americans."

"Sigh…"

"When I opened my first shooting school to teach armed citizens the use of deadly force in 1981, I very quickly noticed something my predecessors in the private firearms academy business, Jeff Cooper and Ray Chapman and John Farnam, had already seen: in more classes than not, health care professionals were the single most highly represented occupational category among the students. That trend has continued to this day." ...

"Every now and then, liberals let their masks slip off to reveal their true feelings and agendas."

"That was the case Friday, when former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg took the stage at the Aspen Institute to discuss marijuana legalization, which he decried as stupid ..."

"He also touted vocational education and, of course, his favorite topic, gun grabbing." ...

"Not only did Bloomberg call for taking away Americans’ right to arms, as he usually does, but this time, he suggested targeting a specific group: minority males between the ages of 15 to 25."

"The former mayor claimed that the demographic is responsible for 95 percent of all murders." ...

"Drape National Rifle Association lobbyist Dakota Moore in purple. Seat him at the center of the state Senate floor. Give him the full-on Julius Caesar treatment and name him consul of Idaho for life, already. At least that would be honest."

"The wing-nut litmus test season is in full swing at the Statehouse. And, straight away, the gun crowd took to again eroding any reasonable restrictions on firearms. Last year, the Legislature sacrificed the safety of college and university students on the NRA’s altar, at a cost to students and taxpayers of nearly $4 million. Within months, a professor’s lecture was cut short when his semi-auto pumped a hole into his thigh." ...

"For the last several months, the spirit of protest has been deeply, profoundly rooted within our society. ... But not all protests are liberal-minded, or mounting such eminently humane, reasonable causes. For a prime example, look in the Pacific Northwest — pro-gun protesters want open carry in Washington’s state legislature, and it’s nothing short of absurd."

"Obviously, there will always be fair-minded disagreement about how far the Second Amendment rights afforded by the Constitution go — I happen to favor far tighter gun control laws than could ever reasonably be passed nowadays, but that’s just me. Regardless, this sounds like the very definition of an ill-conceived overreach. " ...

"Lawmakers would have a much easier time and we would all be better served if they would follow the adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'"

"But that common-sense approach flies out the window when politicians start talking about guns."

"Sen. Vicki Marble, R-Fort Collins, is the lone sponsor of a so-called 'constitutional carry' bill that would allow 'a law-abiding person to carry a concealed handgun without a permit.'"

"Marble's Senate Bill 32, coupled with Senate Bill 86, which would repeal legislation requiring background checks on gun transfers, narrowly passed the Senate Judiciary Committee last Monday." ...

"Last week, my colleagues took an important first step in standing up for public safety and protecting women and families when the Senate Judiciary Committee approved S.3 by a vote of 19-2. This life-saving bill would protect South Carolinians by prohibiting convicted domestic abusers from possessing firearms. It would also prohibit abusers subject to protective orders from possessing firearms for the duration of the order — usually six months to a year. This bill is now headed to the full Senate for a vote." ...

"The debate on whether students should fire guns as part of a gun safety course continues in the Lowcountry. There are two bills filed in South Carolina that involve guns in public school curriculum. One bill would create the Second Amendment Education Act, where a three week course teaches Second Amendment rights in depth. The other bill would create the South Carolina Gun Safety course, where students travel to a gun range with the class and fire guns. Not all parents are on board, and now the Beaufort County School District joins the discussion."

"Members of the Regulatory and Public Affairs Committee voted 4-3 to table the bill, meaning it won't move forward. All the Republicans opposed the bill, and all the Democrats supported it."

"Although expected, the New Hampshire Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote to allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons is disappointing."

"Advocating for so-called 'constitutional carry,' ... Derek Dufresne, states, 'The Second Amendment is a right. Legislators shouldn’t require lawful individuals to have to get a government permission slip to act on it.' ..."

"Mr. Dufresne forgets that we live in a society where rights come with responsibilities. I prefer that a local police chief or sheriff approve an application to carry a concealed weapon. This is a safeguard that the concealed-weapon carrier is not a felon, or someone who has repeatedly come to the attention of the police for domestic violence or mental illness." ...

"On January 15, 2015, Michigan’s Governor Rick Snyder vetoed gun reform legislation that had strong support in the legislature. Snyder cited concerns that were drummed up in a media campaign by the bill’s opponents. The bills sponsors consistently said that the complaints were baseless. To obtain the governor’s signature, the new legislature has removed the small bit of the legislation that Governor Snyder objected to, and passed the new bill, known as SB34 with over a 3-1 vote. ..." ...

"In January of 2013, I wrote an essay on European Murder rates compared to the United States. In it, I came to the conclusion that culture was the most important driver of homicide rates, and that the presence of guns was a minor factor. It has been one of the most popular essays that I have written. As I have pursued the subject further, the predominant and most important part of the 'culture' predictor of high homicide rates appears to be a lack of faith in the criminal justice system."

"I have found that the same conclusion was reached a couple of years before I did, in 2011, in an article published in the Catholic News Service. Here are some excerpts from the article:" ...

A Kensington police detective was suspended earlier this week after allegedly having sex with a prostitute who stole his gun, badge, and ammo from a Reno hotel room while he slept.
In late May, Sergeant Keith Barrow allegedly paid $70 to have sex with a prostitute while he was off duty.
Barrow woke up to find his badge, two clips of ammunition, and his gun missing.
Barrow was never cited, and returned to work. He wasn’t suspended until earlier this week.
Residents in Kensington were outraged it took so long for Barrow to be disciplined. ...
Barrow’s stolen gun was later recovered by Reno police after the prostitute’s pimp shot himself in the leg with that gun.
It’s unclear how long Barrow’s suspension will last.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The NRA has a point about the inadvisability of simply taking guns away from the populace. If that were possible, it would not disarm that small percentage of the population willing to break the law.... Punishing people who obey the law is backward thinking. — Hugh Downs, Veteran ABC newsman
