FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. - A former Indiana police officer pleaded guilty to animal cruelty after his K-9 partner was found frozen to death in a trash bag, according to WWLT.
The former officer, Clinton Ellis, reached a plea agreement this week in the death of his K-9, Blade.
Other reports show that Blade's ribs could be seen from how skinny he had gotten.
On Tuesday, Ellis pleaded guilty to one count of striking or interfering with a law enforcement animal and one count of animal cruelty. On Thursday, he was sentenced to a year in jail, with 311 of those days suspended.

A customer shot and killed a would-be thief on Tuesday as he tried to hold up a Family Dollar store in Atlanta, police said.
The shooting took place in the early morning in DeKalb County.
County police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer told WGXA that an unidentified suspect entered the store and pulled a gun on two employees.
While the armed suspect was demanding money from the cashier, a customer pulled his own gun and fired, Fox 5 reported.
Police are investigating the scene but said that the customer will not be charged in the shooting.

Recall that Scalise was nearly killed two years ago when a crazed leftist attacked congressional Republicans as they practiced for the annual baseball game, shooting and injuring several. Were it not for two Capitol Police officers, David Bailey and Crystal Griner, who returned fire against the assailant, Scalise and others would be dead. |

At Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge Women’s March in January, Ross Eliot brought up the rear, more concerned with what might be happening behind the group than keeping pace with the many chants from the roughly 250-person crowd.
Eliot was there as security. He was looking over his shoulder for anyone who might attack the group.
With the threat of right wing violence on the rise, Eliot is among a growing number of activists on the left who are taking a page out of the 1960s civil rights movement: armed self-defense. |

According to the Enterprise Police Department, a death investigation was initiated at the 100 Block of County Road 270 on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 9:40 p.m.
Responding officers discovered Rocky Beasley, 39, of Enterprise, with a gunshot wound to the chest at the residence. The suspect was still at the scene when police arrived.
The preliminary investigation, according to the EPD, revealed this may be a case of self-defense and the suspect was released without charges after consultation with the Coffee County District Attorney’s Office. |

Armed citizens do not deploy their defensive firearms unless they are justified in using deadly force. But our goal is stopping, not killing. We want to stop the attack as quickly as possible. Sub-caliber projectiles may well stop an attacker and cause death, but it will likely take some time for this to occur. To put it in perspective, one might realize that the gunfight at the OK Corral occurred in about 30 seconds and some 30 shots were fired during that time. How many shots can criminals get off and how many people can they injure in just a few minutes before they succumb to their wounds? |

In 2014, the Massachusetts Legislature voted to remove the Firearm Identification Card requirement in order for people to purchase, possess, or use pepper spray and other defensive sprays for self-defense. Now, anyone over the age of 18 can purchase and carry the spray without an FID card— except immigrants with temporary protected status, DACA, many work visas, asylum claims, and other legal statuses. |

A shooter who wants to claim the stand your ground defense has to hold an additional hearing in front of a judge and convince the judge that they feared for their life when they fired (instead of retreating). Prosecutors now have to disprove a shooter’s claim using “clear and convincing evidence,” a standard that differs from the customary “beyond a reasonable doubt.” |

In early December, NRA-ILA alerted gun owners to an ongoing dispute between the administration of Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and the state courts. The governor’s office had advised that it would refuse to comply with lawful court orders to reinstate some Massachusetts residents’ Firearms Identification Cards. Early this week, the Boston Globe reported that the Governor’s office had reversed course and will comply with the court orders, returning Massachusetts to some semblance of a Republican form of government. |
