When the Livingston Police officers arrived on the scene, they found a 26-year-old man lying on the ground with "what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds."
Through their preliminary investigation, the officers learned that a 48-year-old property owner was leaving a nearby office when he was approached by a subject who produced a weapon and demanded money.
"The property owner stated that he was able to obtain a weapon from his vehicle and fired multiple shots in self defense," the press release stated. |

Gun rights advocates are arguing that a proposal to let teachers to carry guns in schools would keep classrooms safe, while education groups say it would increase the danger.
Sen. Mark Christensen of Imperial introduced a bill that would allow Nebraska teachers and other school employees to carry a concealed handgun in schools. School boards would have to approve the permits. The Judiciary Committee heard testimony on the bill Friday.
To qualify for a permit, employees would need to take an additional 24 hours of training beyond the eight hours required to legally carry a concealed gun. The training would include best practices for responding to a live shooting. |

February 25 2014, there was major improvement and action on critical firearms preemption legislation when the West Virginia Senate passed Senate Bill 317 by a 32-0 vote.
SB 317, sponsored by state Senator John Unger (D-16), has been worked tirelessly through the committee process and has seen multiple committee substitutes which weakened the original intent of this legislation. |

Bills dealing with toaster pastries and insurance policies are just two of more than a dozen gun-related measures lined up for the 2014 legislative session that starts Tuesday. As in previous years, many of them will go nowhere, especially if Marion Hammer, the National Rifle Association’s powerful Florida lobbyist, doesn’t like them.
But in an election year, whether the bills actually pass or not may not really matter to politicians looking to score points with voters. |

Minnesota sheriffs' offices issued almost double the number of permits to carry handguns in 2013 than they had the year before, according to figures released by the state Friday. It was the largest number since the state's permit-to-carry law was enacted in 2003.
As of Friday, more than 165,000 people had valid permits to carry guns in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. |

Ronald Westbrook, the Alzheimer's patient, got out of his house during the night of Nov. 27. He appeared hours later at the home of Joe Hendrix, knocked repeatedly on the door and tried the bell, apparently being in a state of confusion. The homeowner, Joe Hendrix, 35, armed himself, went outside, and confronted Westbrook. Eventually, Hendrix shot Westbrook, 72, several times, which proved fatal. According to Hendrix, the elderly man was carrying an object and did not obey his commands. |

If the Court grants a motion to intervene, that does not mean it will necessarily grant the en banc petition. So, the AG must have her motion to intervene granted, her petition for en banc review granted, and convince the en banc panel that the original panel made reversible error. Should the review be accepted and then fail, Harris could then petition the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
...
The law firm of CD Michel and Associates, Mr. Peruta’s attorney, firmly believe that the Harris does not have the standing to intervene and seek en banc review because the San Diego County Sheriff decided not to oppose the 9th Circuit Court’s ruling and they are filing opposing motions for the AG to intervene. |

California rules allowing counties to place restrictions on who can carry concealed weapons will remain in force while the federal appeals court that struck them down decides whether to reconsider its decision.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco today granted a request by California Attorney General Kamala Harris and a gun control group to put on hold a 2-1 decision by three of its judges that some of the state’s permitting requirements infringed on the right to bear arms under the Constitution’s Second Amendment. |

An analytically look at why the New Jersey Democrat’s “High Capacity”(sic) Magazine Ban NJA2006 is bad news for NJ, but applies to all bans of this type wherever they raise their ugly head.
The Primary Issue of many with this bill is it is a Gun Ban. Many guns owned by New Jersey citizens through no fault but for the guns design, will be banned as the firearms can not be materially altered. That is, they only have one way of delivering ammunition and you can not just purchase another magazine as it is inherent to the design, it is part of the gun and can not be replaced or removed. |

First, let me answer that question — Senator Wilton Simpson (R-Trilby) IS a strong, dedicated supporter of the Second Amendment. He is committed to protecting your right to keep and bear arms and your right of self-defense. He definitely is a Second Amendment FRIEND!
Those who say otherwise are attempting to mislead you. Groups who are promoting a piece of legislation produced and being pushed by an organization based in California, are attacking Senators and Representatives who won’t sponsor or co-sponsor a bill that will cause some serious negative consequences. |

He was vilified for his abhorrence of the second amendment. His ratings sank lower and lower until he was shown the door. He had a petition signed by over 100,000 people asking for his deportation from the United States.
Frontpagemag.com reports that he abused his staff (quoting from the New York Daily News). Yet, in spite of these achievements, or perhaps, because of them, a commenter at frontpagemag.com says that Piers Morgan brought positive change to a number of people in his life. |

As amended and passed in the House Public Policy Committee, SB 229 would do the following:
• Prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars to fund a gun “buyback” program.
• Allow firearms to be locked out of plain sight in a vehicle while parked on school property.
• Remove the “roaming school zone” provision from current law – currently, property can be defined as a place where a school function is taking place (a person would be in violation of state law if they were legally carrying a firearm at a zoo and a school field trip was held there as well).
• Redefine “school property” to only include property of the school and not other buildings that might be connected to the school by a parking lot. |

Last but not least, Illinois signed concealed carry into law on January 1st.
Friday, the state police announced more than 5,000 licenses are ready to be mailed out. CBS4 caught up with a local gun shop owner, to find out what these licenses mean for business.
"It's been better, but has it been crazy? No, no not at all," says Dick Work, owner of "Bullseye Guns & Ammo" in Milan.
Now that Illinois has started issuing concealed carry licenses, Dick Work thinks business will pick up as more people apply. "As soon as people see that other people are getting the response that they expect from the state, yeah the people are just kinda waiting to see what happens." |

When the weather is warm, I carry one the most difficult guns to shoot. The recoil is painful, it’s difficult to aim and less effective than a standard 9mm. I carry a Smith & Wesson 442 .38 snubnosed revolver (I actually alternate between the Smith and a Boberg Arms XR9-S, but that’s a different story).
While I currently reside in sunny South Carolina and I can carry any pistol I can legally own and conceal, things weren’t always so bright. I bought the old faithful revolver while living under restrictions from the People’s Republic of Massachusetts. |

The Second Amendment Foundation today offered congratulations to the first 5,000 recipients of Illinois concealed carry licenses, which were mailed out by the State Police.
It was a SAF case – Moore v. Madigan – that forced the Illinois Legislature to adopt a concealed carry law last year over the objections of anti-gun Gov. Pat Quinn and others including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. |

About 550 people crammed into the Shermans Dale Community Fire Company building on Tuesday, Feb. 25, for an educational seminar about Pennsylvania's gun laws.
York attorney Matt Menges has been speaking across the state at similar seminars about gun owners' rights and responsibilities. Menges said that by far this was the largest turnout he had seen.
Rep. Mark Keller, R-Landisburg, who hosted the seminar, said he plans to hold another this fall because of the "overwhelming" turnout. |
