The Marine Corps is dismantling its iconic Scout Sniper platoons – a facet of each infantry battalion for generations – and is doing away with the coveted 0317 Military Occupational Specialty. The product of a grueling training pipeline that yields field-ready precision marksmen qualified on the M40, M110, and M107 series rifles, the Marine Scout Sniper program is facing permanent disbandment as a result of a shifting focus in the country's amphibious warfare service. |

The National Rifle Association joined West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice today for the signing of the Campus Self-Defense Act, NRA-backed legislation that ensures law-abiding adults may exercise their right to self-defense when visiting or attending a college campus. "The Campus Self-Defense Act recognizes the fact that danger doesn't disappear just because you’ve stepped onto campus grounds," said NRA's West Virginia State Director Art Thomm. "Now, those who choose to exercise the right will have the ability to protect themselves, their classmates, and their loved ones should they need." |

On New Year’s Day, San José became the first city in the nation to require gun owners to pay a yearly fee and carry gun liability insurance. The ordinance requiring liability insurance was in effect Jan. 1, but the city has no data whether obtaining the insurance on an "honor system” has prompted any gun owners to act. None of the city's estimated 52,000 gun owners has been cited for violating the law. |

California is known for its sweeping gun control laws — something John Parkin knows all too well. He owns and operates Coyote Point Armory in Burlingame. "As they keep tacking on these little laws every time they move along, it makes it really tough for people that want to exercise their Second Amendment right the ability to know what's legal and what's not legal," he told CBS News Bay Area. |

A county commissioner’s second attempt to have the county board pass a “Constitutional Sanctuary Resolution” failed during a regular meeting on Thursday, February 23. During recent meetings of the Crawford County Board of Commissioners, a few citizens have asked the board to “consider adopting a resolution like other counties” stating that Crawford County will be a “sanctuary” from “unconstitutional” laws as gun control bills enter the Michigan legislature. Local proponents of the sanctuary resolutions have said the bills violate the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. |

The New Mexico House of Representatives has still not yet voted on HB 100 by Rep. Andrea Romero (D-Santa Fe), legislation imposing a mandatory 14-day waiting period on all firearm purchases. This legislation will not "enhance" the existing FBI background check process in any way, as the author claims; it will only delay your ability to exercise your Second Amendment right to defend yourself, your family and your property. Criminals do not adhere to a "cooling off" period. Even if you have already contacted your State Representative, please continue doing so by BOTH email and phone to urge him or her to OPPOSE HB 100.

The .270 Winchester, not to be confused with the 270 WSM, is used primarily for hunting, whether deer hunting or big game hunting, such as for elk.
The best 270 ammo is Hornady Superformance SST because it has enough knockdown power to suffice for most hunting situations, is very reliable, and is trusted by many hunters and shooters. |

SIG Sauer this week officially introduced the version of the military's new Next Generation rifle that won't require talking to a recruiter. Last April, the New Hampshire-based firearms giant made headlines around the globe by pulling down the award for the Army's Next Generation Squad Weapons, a series of 6.8mm rifles and light machine guns and their companion suppressors that are planned to replace the current 5.56 NATO small arms in front line service. The rifle, originally introduced as the XM5 and recently renamed the XM7, is based on the company's gas-piston action MCX platform and uses SIG's in-house developed SLX suppressor system. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all — security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. — EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens] |
