In an eleven-year period in this country there were 1,363 persons killed in mass shootings, 947 wounded and an average of 20 mass shootings per year.
About 44% of the killings were with handguns but the weapon of choice in 76% of the mass shootings were assault weapons. The latest statewide poll from the Detroit chamber of commerce reveals that by a 55%-40% margin citizens want to ban those weapons.
There is a dramatic political split on the proposed ban
83%-15% Strong Democrats Yes 26%-67% Strong Republican No 73%-22% Non Gun Owners Yes 44%-53% Gun Owners No
In recent days Detroit Democrat and House Speaker Joe Tate reports he is open to discussing the ban, which of course is not the same as saying he would be for it. |

Before approving an 11-bill package Thursday aimed at combating gun violence, a Michigan Senate committee changed one of the proposals to remove from current state law legal protections for firearm dealers and manufacturers.
Democrats made the liability changes in a bill that previously focused on bolstering gun storage standards in homes where children are present. Republicans immediately criticized the revisions.
The new version of the storage measure would delete about two pages of law that say federally licensed firearm dealers are not liable for damages "arising from the use or misuse" of a gun if the sale was executed legally and that ban local governments in Michigan from suing gun manufacturers. |

MARKSMANSHIP is a skill that can be developed and must be maintained. But speed and fitness are also critical components in practical pistol shooting, a fact that Alpha Angels members Sasha-Gay Mullings and Shayon Francis are well aware of.
It is with that in mind why the two have no intentions of sitting on their laurels despite a fairly positive start to their respective seasons on the overseas circuit.
Both were among a number of local shooters who displayed the skills and persistence required to cop several awards at the Florida Open Shooting Competition recently.

Given the range of concerns over the recently passed Campus Self-Defense Act, Gov. Jim Justice could have chosen his words more carefully as he signed the bill.
Justice said West Virginia is sending “the message, ‘By God, if you wanna mess with us, we can mess back.'”
Yikes.
Such language does nothing to settle the nerves of officials on the campuses of state institutions of higher learning, who are understandably thinking about the challenges such a law will present. The last thing we need is the governor firing off a politicized yee-haw to encourage people to “mess back,” in dangerous situations. |

Fighting the Elements Humidity: Moisture is the greatest threat. Micro-condensation can build up even in dry climates to cause rust in barrels, firing pins, and triggers.
Temperature changes: Temperature fluctuations degrade the plastic and rubber components like grips, magazines, and hand guards. These changes also corrode and will eventually ruin your ammunition.
Sunlight: UV light from the sun causes guns and ammo to degrade much more quickly. Constant exposure can even destroy ammunition in a few weeks. |

Citing gun restrictions dating to the Reconstruction era, a federal appeals court on Thursday upheld a 2018 Florida law that prevents sales of rifles and other long guns to people under age 21.
The law, passed in the aftermath of the mass shooting at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, is one of the only firearm restrictions approved by the Legislature in decades. Federal law already prohibited the sale of handguns to people under 21.
Ed.: A Circuit judge judge has held the mandate, triggering an automatic rehearing en banc, which sets aside this decision, and the case will be re-heard by the full circuit. |

The state Senate had a protracted debate Thursday over the practicality of bills to limit the places and circumstances in which gun owners can wear, carry and transport their weapons, and how they can store them.
Since the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in June effectively rendering Maryland’s concealed-carry policy unconstitutional, legislators have been working on bills to re-imagine the state’s gun policy.
The Senate has now given preliminary approval to a bill that would alter Maryland’s safe storage gun laws. |

The Washington State house approved a sweeping assault weapons ban on Wednesday that would prohibit the sale and manufacture of all AR-15 and AK-47 rifles and many other popular semi-automatic weapons. If passed, it would impose some of the strictest restrictions on assault weapons in the country.
Legal experts, however, say that courts would likely strike down the law after the Supreme Court signaled it would apply tough constitutional standards to gun restrictions in a ruling last June. |

Rounds reintroduced the Traveler’s Gun Rights Act on Thursday, a bill that aims to update federal law to account for gun residency issues full-time travelers — such as people who live in recreational vehicles (RVs), individuals with multiple homes, and military personnel and spouses.
Currently, the ATF does not allow Post Office (PO) boxes or private mailboxes to be included on federal forms for firearms purchasers. |

Despicable incidents like ‘mass shooting’ are increasing in the US at an unstoppable speed. Analysts are worried about the consequences of this if the whim of unwanted gun use continues in the future. The indirect impression of this misfortune of the US is being felt worldwide. In fact, prior to the American Revolution, the American government did not have the budget, manpower, or will to maintain a full-time army. So, Americans became dependent on weapons to protect themselves from foreign armies and Native Americans. |

Gun safety legislation is on its way to the governor’s desk for a signature.
Bennie’s Bill, which would make it a crime for allowing a firearm to be accessible to a minor, passed with concurrence through the House by a vote of 34-28 on Wednesday evening.
The bill was named after Bennie Hargove, a middle school student whose classmate fatally shot him in 2021 using his father’s gun.
This bill would make it a misdemeanor for anyone to negligently have a firearm be accessible to a minor, and a fourth-degree felony if the minor who uses the gun significantly harms another person or themself. |

Despite the tight 201-198 House Republican majority, gun advocates convinced a few House Democrats to join them to reject these bills by comfortable margins.
State Rep. Loren Selig, D-Durham, said the state should have its own gun-free school zone law (HB 32). |

Police in New Orleans have arrested a St. Roch homeowner for shooting at two teenagers who were believed to be stealing from cars parked in the neighborhood. The situation has raised questions about whether the homeowner was legally justified in using deadly force.
According to Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino, the law hinges on whether the defendant had a reasonable belief that deadly force was necessary in self-defense. |

The Flathead County Attorney, Travis Ahner, has decided not to charge the shooter in the April 2022 shooting at the Snowslip Inn in Essex, which left Jeremy McKenzie dead in the parking lot, according to the Flathead Beacon.
The investigation raised “issues of self-defense,” according to Ahner.
After evaluating information from search warrants, subpoenas, witness accounts, and a physical exam of the scene, Ahner stated that a successful prosecution would likely not be possible based on self-defense. |

States and localities that refuse to use local resources to enforce certain gun-control measures may have a plausible legal path. But courts are starting to block efforts that move beyond that.
On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes, an Obama appointee, ruled that Missouri’s “Second Amendment Preservation Act” (SAPA) is unconstitutional.
“SAPA’s practical effects are counterintuitive to its stated purpose,” Judge Wimes wrote in his opinion. “While purporting to protect citizens, SAPA exposes citizens to greater harm by interfering with the Federal Government’s ability to enforce lawfully enacted firearms regulations designed by Congress for the purpose of protecting citizens within the limits of the Constitution.” |

A federal judge who struck down a controversial gun law as unconstitutional said on Thursday that the state law will temporarily remain in effect while Missouri appeals his decision.
U.S. District Judge Brian Wimes on Tuesday ruled that a Missouri law banning all federal gun laws was unconstitutional because it violated the constitutional standard that federal law trumps state law. The Missouri statute is an “unconstitutional (violation of) federal law and is designed to be just that,” Wimes wrote.
On Thursday, Wimes ordered an administrative stay, which keeps the Missouri law in place temporarily while the state takes its case to a higher court, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. |

On Tuesday, federal district court Judge Brian Wimes issued an important ruling striking down Missouri's Second Amendment Protection Act (SAPA). SAPA is a "gun sanctuary" law that restricts state and law-enforcement cooperation with efforts to enforce federal gun control laws.
Gun sanctuary laws enacted by red states are in large part modeled on immigration sanctuary laws enacted by numerous blue states and localities, in order to limit state cooperation with enforcement of federal immigration laws. |

A bill to prevent local law enforcement from enforcing federal firearms bans advanced out of a Senate committee Thursday morning.
The Senate Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee vote came just two days after a federal judge struck down a similar 2021 law in Missouri, saying it was unconstitutional because federal law can’t be nullified by state law.
Also commonly called a “Second Amendment sanctuary” bill and sponsored by Rep. Josh Bray, R-Mount Vernon, House Bill 153 won passage in the House of Representatives in February on a 78-19 vote. |
