"An off-duty New York City police officer was arrested Saturday night after allegedly drawing a pistol on patrons and staff following an altercation at a Bellmore restaurant, Nassau County police said."

"Robert Garrity, 33, of Massapequa, was charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, after he allegedly threatened other patrons with his loaded .38-caliber revolver. A spokesman for the New York City Police Department said yesterday Garrity, who works in the 105th Precinct in Queens Village, was suspended pending the outcome of a departmental review."

"Tyrone Lewis, 26, of the 2100 block of Lyndhurst Ave. was one of two men who broke down the front door of a house about 6:50 a.m. and confronted the owner and his wife in a rear bedroom, police said."

"The owner, whom police declined to name, fired a .38- caliber handgun at the intruders, hitting Lewis in the chest. Lewis was taken by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma, where he died. The other man was being sought."
