... "... At some point, 'gun control' advocates would have to publicly confront the very credible allegations that the very agency upon which they wish to bestow vastly more funding and power, in order to reduce 'gun violence,' has itself sanctioned exactly the gun trafficking that the anti-gun groups claim is a serious enough problem to warrant yet more gun laws restricting American citizens."

"That point seems to have come yesterday, when Brady Campaign President Paul Helmke, along with NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, were interviewed about the scandal on Fox News (see sidebar video). Helmke put a brave face on it, and started by explaining to us what the "basic problem" is:" ...

"The National Council of Jewish Women's thinly disguised polemic in the article 'Reforming gun safety laws a moral imperative' (CJN, Jan. 21) against gun ownership misses an important point. Making yet another rule banning guns will not protect us against violent crime, nor will enforcing a witch hunt against those deemed mentally defective enhance our security." ...

"The more I learn about guns, the more I realize I have to learn. Case in point: mouse guns. I come to the party from the (initial) point of view of a large caliber fanboy. Give me .45 ACP or give me (the likelihood of) death was my frame-of-reference. Don’t get me wrong – I’m still convinced that .45ACP is a superior caliber for my needs, but I’m coming around to the idea that there’s room in my arsenal for other calibers, and by extension, other guns outside the family of 1911s. Hence my growing interest in the lowly mouse gun." ...

"Simpson’s GOP House colleagues, Carlos Bilbao of Emmett, thinks it’s a lousy idea."

"'I attend all the home basketball and football games,' Bilbao said Wednesday at a hearing on the bill. 'There has always been some kind of an altercation. The Boise Police have done an excellent job. … I’m not going to vote for your bill for this reason: I don’t want to sit next to someone that’s carrying a gun. These altercations, when they do occur, get into fisticuffs, and it does take two policemen to spread them. And if one guy has a gun, I can assure you that they’ll probably pull the gun out. ..." ...

Submitter's Note: Apparently Idaho collegiate sports fans are uniquely murderous, since this isn't a problem in the numerous other states that allow permit holders to carry at sporting events.

"The Feb. 24 article 'Lautenberg: Step up gun regulations' showed the senator's latest attempt to trample on the Second Amendment’s guaranteed rights of law-abiding citizens."

"His latest ramblings cite statistics that say guns — not the criminals firing them — account for 9,500 deaths each year. Well, the National Center for Health Statistics shows that motor vehicle deaths number approximately 45,000 a year, and falls account for 20,000 deaths. Using the same reasoning, does that mean we should outlaw cars and banana peels?" ...
