The County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Wednesday supporting the right to bear arms and to declare “that we support the rights and liberties of all Gage County citizens guaranteed by the United States and Nebraska Constitution.” |

Earlier this week, the New Mexico Senate passed Senate Bill 32, a measure to ban the use of traps or snares on public lands, on a 26-13 vote. The measure does exempt hunting with firearms and archery equipment, but many sportsmen and agricultural partners that are Second Amendment supporters are concerned about eliminating a traditional wildlife management tool, especially after the New Mexico Game Commission adopted and implemented new trapping regulations just a little over a year ago. These new regulations include mandatory education for anyone purchasing a trapping license and new setbacks, requiring a half-mile distance from designated trailheads, roadside rest areas, picnic areas, and public campgrounds or boat launches. |

The House sent two bills to the Senate Thursday that would implement universal background checks and close the loophole linked to the 2015 mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.
“Gun violence is devastating our communities. Every day, 30 people are killed by someone using a gun, a number that jumps to 100 if you factor in accidents and suicides involving guns,” Rep. Mike Thompson, D-California, the sponsor of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021 said in a statement. |

In his argument, he referenced an incident in Tulsa where a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer drove through Black Lives Matter protesters leaving one paralyzed from the waist down. McDugle said the driver responded out of fear. The driver was not charged.
“This bill simply says, ‘please stay to the peaceful protests,’” he said according to the outlet. “Don’t block roads. Don’t impede on the freedoms of others.” |

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) vowed that the Senate would take up a vote on proposed anti-gun legislation that the U.S. House of Representatives passed.
“H.R. 8 will be on the floor of the Senate, and we will see where everybody stands. No more hopes and prayers, thoughts and prayers. A vote is what we need, a vote, not thoughts and prayers,” said Schumer. |

Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress not only don’t seem serious about combating gun violence, but last week they used it as an excuse to come after your Second Amendment rights.
On Thursday, House Democrats approved two bills, H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446, that threaten law-abiding citizens and our Second Amendment while doing nothing to prevent tragic shootings.
In their efforts to pass so-called “universal background checks,” House Democrats disregard that every commercial gun sale in the United States already requires a background check. Current law also prohibits “straw purchasers” who pass background checks and buy firearms for criminals. |

The freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment should not be considered less than the other freedoms protected by the Bill of Rights. Legislation to restrict rights such as free speech, freedom of the press, and due process during criminal proceedings would rightly raise an outcry.
The right to keep and bear arms should not be considered differently, and I will never vote to infringe your Second Amendment rights. |
