There exists a threshold in the pathetic quest for constant self-validation in building a mirror on wheels, or the modern and more efficient tool of social networking and digital skies filled with clouds flashing "look at me, look at me." in big, bold and gaudy billboard letters.

With a new and larger location at 13987 W. State Hwy 29, A Texas Girl’s Guns is geared up to better serve the community’s needs for firearms and accessories, and a lot more. Owners Judith and Dennis Baker purchased the building and have been renovating it since December. They reopened on Feb. 7 after being briefly closed for the move. New signage will be going up gradually with the major two-sided sign scheduled to be erected this week. This sign will have a scrolling marque with messages and have the ability to show high resolution videos. Additional signage including one atop the old western-style store front with cedar siding will follow. Goose neck lights will accent the western motif as will the hitching-like railings out front.

America isn’t the country The Washington Post says it is. It’s a big, wonderfully diverse country full of great people—along with some bad neighborhoods and bad guys—with seemingly endless rural stretches where the sheer magnificence of our sprawling landscapes means that police response times might be well above the national average. It’s a country of 50 states that grew from sea to shining sea on the gumption of the pioneer spirit grounded on individual freedom—our Second Amendment-protected rights, which can come down to a right of self-preservation, being paramount. |

In announcing Australia’s new federal gun amnesty program, Justice Minister Michael Keenan told the Sunday Mail last week: “This is the first Australia-wide gun amnesty program since 1996, when the Howard government took action following the devastation of the Port Arthur Massacre.” The massacre of 35 people and the wounding of another 23 in late April, 1996 at the popular tourist site in southeastern Australia served as the excuse to implement the country’s National Firearms Agreement (NFA).

One of these, HB1169, would establish what its supporters call “constitutional carry.” The bill provides that anyone may carry a firearm if the individual has a valid drivers’ license or non-driver identification card issued by the state Department of Transportation.

Legislation pending in the General Assembly would overturn the state's long-standing rule restricting the concealed carry of guns to those who can articulate a "good and substantial" reason for needing to and instead allowing a general desire for self defense to suffice. Sen. Wayne Norman, a Republican representing Harford and Cecil counties, pointed to the current violence in Baltimore as the ultimate justification for opening the doors to far more people carrying guns in public. "I would suggest that's a reason to have a permit," Senator Norman said during a hearing on the legislation. "These are dangerous times, and this is a dangerous place."

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of men and women. — Thomas Paine, The Crisis, Intro. (Dec. 1776). |
