CCRKBA: 'President Can't Tell Gun 'Safety' Advocates from Prohibitionists'
Submitted by: Bruce W. Krafft

"President Obama's well-intentioned Sunday essay on gun rights in a Tucson newspaper demonstrates that he – and probably his entire administration – remains confused about firearms safety and gun control, the [CCRKBA] said today."

"'The President evidently can't tell the difference between genuine gun safety advocates and gun prohibitionists,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. 'Obama's remarks reveal that he equates gun control with gun safety, when in reality the self-proclaimed 'safety' advocates spend all of their time spreading anti-gun hysteria, and none of it promoting responsible gun ownership.'" ...

... "'The principal debate, then, will likely center around the application of background-check standards to private dealers.'"

"Get that? 'Private dealers,' as in individuals, as in YOU AND ME. They are grabbing at the 'gun show loophole' again ... It is a grab to control THE ENTIRE PRIVATE SALE OF FIREARMS. Not even King George III was so grasping!"

"'We will be meeting with stakeholders on all sides of the issue to discuss how we can find sensible, intelligent ways to make the country safer.'"

"Translation: We're going to do a deal with the Lairds of Fairfax (the NRA) to sell out the 'radicals' in order to comfort the Fudds." ...

"Shocking as this may seem to gun rights activists in both states (something on the order of Claude Rains’ 'shock' that gambling was going on in Humphrey Bogart’s café in Casablanca), the Spokesman-Review’s editorial blasting the proposal appears to have – and we will be kind here – stretched a fact to justify its opposition." ...

... "There are those who view the Constitution from an originalist position, that the document should be read and ruled on as the founders wrote it. For many, the Second Amendment is the Holy Grail, allowing every man, woman and child to keep and bear arms. They niggle, however, over the rest of the amendment that calls for those arms to be used by a well regulated militia 'being necessary to the security of a free State.'"

"Last I checked most gun nuts don't belong to any militia, let alone a well regulated one." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Well you need to check more closely. The federal definition of militia, as found in 10 USC 311 includes all able-bodied males 18-45. As for being 'well regulated' (which means 'properly functioning' in this context) that's hard to do when the FedGov keeps trying to throw militia members in prison.

"Statistics tell us that today, somewhere in America, a gun saved someone's life. The person alive because they chose to own a gun and use it for self-defense might be a teacher, or a factory worker, or a computer programmer."

"Unlike the mainstream media portrayal of gun owners, they are not all toothless, hillbilly vigilante wannabes. So a son, father, wife, daughter or mother might be going home to an average American family because a gun was used to ward of a violent attacker. Instead of being free to attack again, the criminal in question is also going somewhere: to jail, or the morgue." ...

"We'll always be able to trust the government with a monopoly on force. Cooperate when threatened, and you won't be hurt. The assumptions behind gun control laws are so blatantly and dangerously wrong that it must take some intellect to trick oneself into believing they're true."

"In December 2000, five friends in their twenties decided to cooperate when Jonathan and Reginald Carr barged into their Wichita home, demanding money. The victims offered no resistance, hoping that the pair would take their valuables and leave.  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight. And it is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. — Justice William O. Douglas, US Supreme Court (1939-75)
