Every year at the NSSF SHOT Show I have a little game plan that always bears fruit, with this year being no different. On the first day, while everybody is ogling over the big guys in the main room upstairs, I sneak away to the basement to be with my people, AKA small business owners. In my experience, the basement has always been home to the most innovative products, and as a bonus, you typically get the opportunity to meet those most intimately attached to the product. This year in my mad dash, I had the chance to meet with Mr. Tyler Brockel, the founder, and CEO of a company that was only two weeks old, Trigger Interactive.

Taurus took the U.S. M1911 market by the horns, so to speak, when it introduced its PT1911 in 2005, with the company’s products quickly setting the standard for affordable, imported M1911s with high-end features. For the first decade of production, Taurus stuck with full-size “Government Model” M1911s before expanding its lineup in 2018 to include more compact models as well.

Included in the large bill was a reauthorization of the Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA). VAWA is a law that focuses on, among others, domestic violence and sexual assault survivor programs. Originally passed in 1994, and typically reauthorized every five years thereafter with bipartisan support, the law expired in 2019.

Today, NRA-ILA filed an amicus curiae (or friend of the court) brief in a case pending before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals concerning how the police may respond when presented with a concealed carry permit.

This case began when a Connecticut police officer approached a man who pulled over to fix his phone’s GPS. Upon being stopped, the man presented the officer with his driver’s license and state-issued license to carry a firearm. At the same time, he informed the officer that he had a lawfully carried pistol in the driver’s side door of his car.

By April 1, half the states in the nation may have added laws allowing people to carry concealed firearms without training or a permit. And that’s no joke. But in two or three months, if the Supreme Court decides to make the broadest possible ruling in the case of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, all 50 states could be forced to go down the same path.
