One Thing Leads to Another: First Guns, Then Knives

"Now that private firearm ownership is banned in Australia, criminals have taken to swords and knives to exercise their violent criminal acts. The Aussie government, showing both their cowardice and maliciousness, have now banned the private ownership of swords and knives. They cite the same tired old reasons and use the same tactics that gun-banners have used for years. Self-defense-banners claim that no one really needs to be walking around with a knife. They have instituted a registration program to exempt collectors and the culturally protected from the ban. And although a few may be exempted from the knife ban, they are not exempt from the self-defense ban. Anyone legally owning a knife must keep it locked up and must own a burglar alarm."

"Our Declaration of Independence clearly states that the purpose of government is to 'secure these [God given] rights.' It is not the purpose of government to trample these rights, but that is exactly what our federal government appears to be doing."

"It further appears that when it comes to eviscerating constitutional protections against governmental intrusion into personal liberties, there is little difference between the two major parties. Democrat and Republican administrations alike seem eager to ignore the Constitution and expunge our freedoms."

"Therefore, it is time for the American people to ignore the labels 'conservative' and 'liberal.' They mean very little these days." ...

GA: Whiny anti-gunners at AJC complaining about bill protecting gun dealers, gun buyers

"On Friday, Gov. Sonny Perdue and the Legislature celebrated the valor and service of the Georgia National Guard. If lawmakers really want to honor the state's reserve soldiers, they'll stop a bill that literally puts the Guard in the line of fire during crises."

"State Rep. Curtis S. Jenkins (D-Forsyth) wants to strip the governor of his ability to suspend the sale of firearms during emergencies."

"The state's long-standing 'Emergency Powers Act' awards the governor the authority to restrict sales and transportation of guns, explosives and alcohol in a public health emergency, enemy attack or natural disaster. The act does not permit the confiscation of privately owned weapons; it only curtails the sale of new ones."

"Under Jenkins' bill, virtually no one in state government could shutter a gun store or dealer if there were a riot or civil disturbance in which free-flowing firearms could lead to greater loss of life and endanger police." ...

-------
During the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles, people who didn't own any firearms suddenly realized they needed them -- but the waiting period prevented them from obtaining any. Barring lawful citizens from obtaining the means to protect themselves during a crisis is insane. Thus, it makes perfect sense that the extremist Atlanta newspaper finds it sensible.

"Law enforcement officials will be giving away thousands of gun locks in an effort to make Durham County a safer place to live."

"Police Chief Steve Chalmers, Sheriff's Chief Deputy Wes Crabtree and others launched the giveaway at a news conference Monday."

" 'We're here today to send a message about firearm safety and to protect our children from needless injury,' Chalmers said. 'Children are curious human beings, and guns can be tempting. They can't distinguish between real guns and fake guns and don't have the judgment to handle any gun.' "

-------
Well, if you educate your children about firearms and take out the mystique, you won't need to lock up your tool of self defense.

"Cayuga's village board has voted unanimously not to rescind its gun law."

" 'There was a lot of correspondence against rescinding it,' said Mayor Mike Coombs. The only supporters of allowing the discharge of firearms and longbows in the village came from those who attended a January village meeting."

" 'The overwhelming reason (for not rescinding the law) is that the public spoke very clearly that this is what they wanted,' said Coombs. 'And we work for the public.' "

"If the issue was put to a referendum, the board was certain its gun law would hold up." ...

Repeal every law enacted since 1912

"Today's 'penitentiaries' are a weird invention of the modern 'hygienic' movement. Peaking in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this is the same movement that assured us society could be 'cleaned up' by banning the legal commerce in alcohol and other plant extracts ('drugs'); aborting and sterilizing the retarded and those of 'inferior races'; putting the government increasingly in charge of child-rearing; coming up with 'modern, humane' methods of execution such as the electric chair, etc."

"In short, these people were dangerous nuts."

"For starters, we could reduce our prison populations by about two-thirds simply by retroactively repealing every law enacted since 1912."

"Was murder illegal by 1912? Of course. Rape? Of course. Kidnapping, armed robbery, bunko fraud? All serious criminal behaviors had been outlawed by 1912. So why have the number of lawbooks on the shelf multiplied tenfold in the past 92 years?"

"The Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole on Tuesday granted former Glencoe Mayor Ronnie Rampey, who was convicted of stealing money from the city, the right to have a gun."

"The board granted Rampey a pardon in 1997 that restored his civil and political rights, but that pardon did not restore his gun rights, as the full pardon Tuesday did."

"Rampey, who was elected mayor of Glencoe four times, has said he wanted his gun rights restored so he could go hunting with his sons. He pleaded guilty in 1989 to a theft charge. He paid back the city of Glencoe $48,905 and served six months in jail."

Both organizations are requiring their suppliers to use RFID tags if they want to continue doing business with them." ...

"Is that technologically possible? Yes. Will it happen? Not immediately, if ever. Companies are sensitive to the backlash that RFID might cause, so they're saying all the right things. "Huh? Doesn't the Patriot Act allow government to spy into people's lives to ensure they aren't terrorists? Don't terrorists try to obtain guns by purchasing them, or is the old fallacious argument going to be changed to 'assault rifles don't kill people; only terrorists kill people'? "

"Another example of a symbiotic relationship between antagonists is the relationship between armed criminals and the gun control industry. If there were no crimes involving guns, there would be no need for gun control. If there were no gun control, then (theoretically) crime would rise to the point where gun control would be needed to curb crime."

"...In practice, things break down, illustrating that the control of guns is tangentially (if ever) related to the suppression of crime. Study after study shows that increasing gun control laws leads to an increase in crime rather than a decline. ...Has there ever been an example of gun control resulting in a lowering of crime? Any gun dealer selling to anyone who even remotely hints that he or she might be a convicted felon or a drug dealer really isn't too bright. That being said, BATF has mastered the art of deception and entrapment, and their conviction rate is not exactly stellar. So, since this involves BATF, we don't believe a word of it unless a sound jury turns out a conviction. Unfortunately, the chances of any gun dealer facing a jury of his peers is remote.

Caroline likes the seat, because the boost allows her to see out the windows, he said." ...

"Davis High School student Adam Liston may not have meant any harm when he brought his shotgun to school two days in a row. While his expulsion for violating the school's zero-tolerance policy against firearms was justified, it was also poorly administered." ...

"A zero-tolerance policy is only effective if immediately and thoroughly enforced. This did not happen with respect to Liston. The school employee who first saw his weapon - as he dropped a friend off at school - did nothing to immediately alert authorities as should have been done. It took a second violation the following morning for authorities to take action." ...

"Liston was not aggressive with the weapon - it was found in a cardboard box in his truck. His friends have vouched for him; his mother, the PTA president, has resigned her post in light of her son's expulsion, decrying the zero-tolerance policy she and her son agreed to upon enrollment in DHS." ...

The right of the people to keep and bear arms includes all arms -- including a steak knife.

-------
A 38-year-old Jackson man was taken to Foote Hospital after being stabbed in the neck during an argument with his girlfriend Monday night, Jackson police said.

About 9:15 p.m., police were called to a domestic assault complaint in the 800 block of First Street. A 26-year-old woman told officers she stabbed the man with a steak knife in self-defense after he punched her at least three times.

The man, whose condition was not available from the hospital, was believed to be stable, Deputy Chief Matt Heins said.

The man will likely be charged with domestic assault. Charges against the woman didn't appear likely at this point, Heins said.

Police were searching for a relative of the people in the apartment. They let the officers in. The search never turned up the wanted suspect, and the family pooch got killed in the process:

. . . "One of the dogs, a 13-year-old mixed-breed female named Roxanne -- the more docile of the pair, according to Anita Russell -- was sniffing around the officers in the kitchen, Russell said. 'They were petting her and smiling,' she said." ...

"Then Roxanne apparently ran out of the kitchen and into the living room where officer Joel Saccoccio was standing."

"But the Russells claim Roxanne merely barked once before Saccoccio shot her in the mouth." ...

"Blood stains were smeared across the living room carpet. The dog’s teeth were still lying on the floor when a reporter arrived at the apartment at about 1:30 p.m. Family and friends were gathered in the kitchen, crying openly." ...

" '(Saccoccio) needs to be suspended. He doesn’t need to be on the force at all,' John Russell said. 'When (Anita Russell) let him in, she let evil into this house.' " ...

"Article 17 is the worst one of all: 'It shall not be permitted to possess, bear, buy, or sell arms except on licensure issued in accordance with the law.' "

"As that great humanitarian and central planner, Chairman Mao, once put it: 'Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.' The Founding Fathers understood that an armed society deters absolute power. Our Second Amendment was meant to prevent the rise of men like Mao and Saddam. Yet, in spite of this tradition, America oversees the birth of democracy in a country where empowerment will be handed out like rations by the government."

"... there's something we can learn from their constitution. For it doesn't mirror our own Constitution, but the God-State we've become since it was written."

"And if that's the brand of democracy we're exporting, how's it reflect on Americans back home?"
