Once again, the March 10 letter writer, “Liberal pols try to destroy our Second Amendment” has presented incorrect information regarding the Second Amendment and gun control in general.
First and foremost, the 2A was not written by God, so it is absolutely not a “God-given right.” Add to which none of the rights in the Constitution are absolute, there are common sense exceptions to every one of them. |

In a campaign advertisement released on Facebook Monday, GOP Congressional candidate Barbara Kirkmeyer (R-CO) became the latest Republican to let her gunshots speak louder than words, as she vowed to defend the nation from “gun-grabbing liberals.”
“Democrats want to take away your 2nd Amendment rights, but I won’t let them,” Kirkmeyer said, after the video showed her firing a gun several times at a local shooting range. “I made Weld County a Second Amendment sanctuary, and I won’t quit until the entire nation is a sanctuary from gun-grabbing liberals.” |

The Illinois Supreme Court is being asked for a second time to decide whether a state law requiring gun owners to have a firearm permit is unconstitutional – a question the court previously declined to answer.
The case involves a White County resident, Vivian Claudine Brown, who was charged in March 2017 with possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification, or FOID card.
The charge was filed after her husband had called the White County Sheriff’s Office to report that she had fired a gun in their home. When officers arrived, they found a rifle beside her bed but no evidence that she had fired it. |

A North Carolina homeowner found a man in his car, presumably thinking he was attempting to steal it. But the homeowner is the one facing charges.
A 51-year-old man went outside shortly before 3:30 AM this past Tuesday and found a man in his vehicle. We can assume words were exchanged, but the only detail we have about what happened next is that the suspect ran. And that is when the homeowner shot at the fleeing suspect. The suspect was hit, and paramedics took him to the hospital with serious injuries. |

A series of ordinances were also passed during Bowens' first meeting as councilwoman.
The Council approved an ordinance to make firing a gun within the city illegal, with certain exceptions like self-defense.
Anyone violating the ordinance could face misdemeanor charges. If convicted, the person could be fined up to $500, imprisoned for up to a year, or both.
Before the ordinance was passed, the Louisville Metro Police Department said officers weren't able to investigate or stop reckless shootings. |

How many times have you watched a movie or television show and thought to yourself, That’s just not even close to right, when a firearm is used? Likely, it has been a lot.
In reality, firearms are simply tools. When treated with respect—in other words, handled safely—guns are nothing more than tools. Everyday Americans can’t afford armed security; it is incumbent upon them to utilize their constitutional rights to protect themselves.
Hollywood, more often than not, fails to recognize this, but sometimes, it just so happens to get it right. |

In a footnote, the Government points out that Mr. Franklin also owns several firearms, which the Government contends "have long been recognized as being 'tools of the drug trade.'" [Doc. 87 at 6 n.2 (quoting in part United States v. Ward, 171 F.3d 188, 195 (4th Cir. 1999)]. It is undisputed, however, that Mr. Franklin owned these firearms legally; he is not a convicted felon or an otherwise prohibited person. Further, none of Mr. Franklin's firearms were subject to forfeiture by the Government.

At some point during the Wyoming Legislature’s just-completed budget session, one representative walked up to another and asked why his cohort had to be so mean.
Rep. Bob Wharff (R-Evanston) was on the receiving end of that question, posed by Rep. Cyrus Western (R-Big Horn), and he recollected the exchange to WyoFile. The representative from Evanston stood his ground.
“I told him, ‘The problem is, we are fighting a battle, we are at war,’” Wharff recalled. “These people are attacking our Second Amendment rights. If we don’t stand up and push back — and I honestly believe this — if we don’t defend our Second Amendment rights, all our other rights go out.” |

Everytown for Gun Safety and its subsidiary groups, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, all supported by anti-gun billionaire and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, want the Senate to “confirm her without delay.”
There may be some speed bumps in the way, possibly the biggest being the Second Amendment. Judge Jackson hasn’t any history regarding cases associated with the right to keep and bear arms, but her support from the gun control crowd doesn’t bode well. |

In a phone interview with the Craig Press Thursday, Smith said that his alleged victim had entered his house with two other men at 1 a.m. without warning or invitation. Smith said he had pointed a gun at the men, but put the gun down at their urging. Smith said at that time one of the men picked up the gun and, menacing him, attempted to rob Smith. When Smith was going to a back room to get the money the man was instructing him to retrieve at gunpoint, Smith said he then turned suddenly and stabbed the man. |

The bill, SB215, removes the requirement to receive eight hours of training and a license before legally carrying a concealed firearm.
Ultimately, DeWine signed the measure saying "about half the states now have this provision. And this is, I think, consistent with the United States Constitution."
When asked about the bill, DeWine pivoted to other measures that he believes would have a direct impact on reducing gun violence.
He mentioned legislation that would give a judge the ability to put a repeat violent offender in prison for up to ten years if they are found in illegal possession of a firearm. |

A suspected pot shop robber was fatally shot Thursday night in Covington.
King County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 8 p.m. to the 27600 block of Covington Way Southeast.
A witness told KIRO 7 that the suspected robber had put someone in a headlock in the parking lot.
The suspect then walked the person to the pot shop with a gun to their head, according to the witness.
KIRO 7 was also told that an armed worker at the pot shop confronted the suspect, stopping them from going in, which is when the worker shot the suspect in “self-defense.” |

He proclaimed the ongoing legislative session as historic on many fronts, but especially for Second Amendment rights.
Kemp is capitalizing on lawmakers’ time under the Gold Dome to fulfill a 2018 campaign promise to pass a "constitutional carry" law — legislation that would do away with the permitting process for Georgians to carry a concealed handgun in public.
A version of the bill has already passed both the House and the Senate and a final proposal is almost certain to make it to the governor’s desk.
At the rally, Kemp had one message to legislators: “Send it my way.” |

Preventing these shootings obviously would not have been difficult. It doesn’t take new laws. It just takes common sense.
So today, that’s what I’m pleading for.
If you own a firearm, be responsible with it.
I don’t care if you’re a law-abiding gun owner or someone on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list.
Treat your gun for the threat it is.
Don’t get so complacent that you leave it lying around and assume that anyone who comes across it will recognize the danger.
A 3- or 4-year-old child certainly won’t. Teenagers should, but they’re still kids, too. |
