SIG Sauer has been in the 1911 business for a good while now. It’s a deep and murky gun niche, but as you can imagine, there are strong feelings about SIG 1911s in the hardcore 1911 community. Putting those folks aside, the gunmaker has produced some solid variants of John Browning’s crowning achievement in firearms design. Its newest effort in that arena is the SIG 1911-XSERIES, which was released rather quietly last week.

Used in everything from casual shooting to Olympic-level shooting events, #8 shot is typically popular for trap, skeet and sporting clays – as it offers good range and a dense pattern, but still relies heavily on user skill to accurately break the targets. #8 shot is also a decent size for varmint control, but you should stick within 30 yards to make sure you actually hit it. |

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has joined a group of 26 Attorneys General in filing an amicus brief requesting that the U.S. Supreme Court overturn Illinois’ ban of AR-15 rifles. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled that the Illinois gun ban was constitutional. The court stated that the plain text of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution does not include AR-15’s because the term “Arms” does not include “militaristic” firearms. |

A $1,000 fine for failing to report a lost or stolen firearm to the government…within two days? That’s exactly what the Pima County, Ariz., Board of Supervisors brazenly passed this month. But it’s illegal—and they know it. So today, the Goldwater Institute sent a letter to the board on behalf of the Arizona Citizens Defense League, demanding that the county immediately repeal the ordinance or face litigation.

It’s no secret that I am an optics nerd. Riflescopes are probably my second passion right after precision rifles, and I get to spend a great deal of time playing with riflescopes of all kinds. Whether it be a $5,000 or a $500 optic, I really enjoy seeing what can be done with riflescopes. A secret pleasure of mine is finding high-performing riflescopes at low price points, and today I am on that mission again with the Lucid Optics MLX 4.5-18X44 riflescope.
