As the United States marks its 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, it is worth reflecting on one of the most enduring elements of our successful struggle for Independence: the Second Amendment, which guarantees citizens the right to keep and bear arms.

The ownership and use of arms was not only a cornerstone of early American liberty but also a practical necessity for the nation’s survival and expansion, particularly in frontier regions like the Ohio territory. The God-given natural right of self-defense would go on to be ratified in 1791 as part of our Bill of Rights.

Gun safety advocates gathered at the Ohio Statehouse on Wednesday to push back against a slate of proposed gun bills they say would weaken public safety.

Members of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action met at Trinity Episcopal Church and spoke with lawmakers about four pieces of legislation: House Bill 495, known as the Freedom to Carry Act; House Bill 108, the Self-Defense Protection Act; House Bill 382, the Second Amendment Protection Act; and Senate Bill 278, which would allow people to sue cities and towns over local gun-control measures.

Worcester County prosecutors dropped criminal charges against a 40-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing another man in January, court records show.

Tailor Albert Quinonez was charged in Worcester District Court with armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the stabbing on Jan. 15 in downtown Worcester. But prosecutors this week filed what’s known as a nolle prosequi, a formal notice that they are dropping the charges.

“The Commonwealth, after careful consideration has determined that further prosecution of this matter is not in the interest of justice,” reads a court filing by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

A major shift in Tennessee’s firearm landscape is moving through the General Assembly as lawmakers respond to a landmark judicial decision. On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Tennessee House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hear House Bill 2064, a piece of legislation that could fundamentally change where and how Tennesseans can legally carry firearms.

The bill, sponsored by Representative Chris Todd, follows a high-profile ruling from August 2025 in which a three-judge panel declared Tennessee’s “intent to go armed” and “parks” statutes unconstitutional. The court ruled that these laws improperly criminalized the core Second Amendment right to bear arms for self-defense.

During recent meetings, Goshen Town Council and the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors reaffirmed their respective status as Second Amendment sanctuaries in response to the numerous gun laws that have passed the General Assembly.

Goshen Council reaffirmed its status with a unanimous vote during its regular meeting on March 10. Vice Mayor Steve Bickley noted that Council had passed a resolution in 2020 to become a Second Amendment sanctuary and requested the reaffirmation to “push back against the unconstitutional gun laws that are being pushed through the General Assembly right now and laying on the governor’s desk,” before making a motion to do just that.

Recently, 3 strong GOA-backed Second Amendment bills passed the Wyoming Legislature and were sent to Governor Gordon’s Desk. Two became law while a third bill was vetoed.

The two bills that became law lowered the minimum age to 18 for concealed carry permits (HB0096) and increased protections against Red Flag Gun Confiscation Orders (HB0098) by making state and local enforcement of these orders a crime in Wyoming.

With these two bills, we were able to return Rights to young adults and increase protections against the extreme Constitutional violations that are inherent with Red Flag Gun Confiscation Orders.

A proposed sales tax break for Kansas gun owners could undermine gun safety goals, according to some opponents, and cut millions in state revenue if passed.

Senate Bill 209 would eliminate the sales taxes on firearms, ammunition, gun accessories, gun safes and safety devices, which is estimated to draw down annual state revenues by — and save gun owners — at least $10 million in its first year.

The bill simultaneously incentivizes firearms and safety equipment purchases, benefitting Kansas’ $167 million firearms industry but neglecting to follow other states that have elected to exempt only safety devices to encourage safe firearm use and storage.

“Just through the end of February, we have seen nine cases of stolen firearms. Six of those were in February alone,” said Logan Bogert, public information officer for the department. “In nearly every one of those cases, the firearm was left unsecured, usually in a vehicle.”

The newly passed legislation targets that exact scenario.

If signed into law, it would make it a misdemeanor for a gun owner to leave a firearm visible inside a car parked on a public street. Supporters say the goal is to reduce easy opportunities for theft.
