"Imagine Colleen Kollar-Kotelly and Sarah Brady alone together in the wilderness, having backpacked miles from the nearest ranger facility. Now imagine an immediate threat--one that's been stalking them with deadly intent--confronts them, confident it has the advantage. Imagine this threat is capable of outrunning them and overpowering them. Imagine this threat has savage murder on its mind. Imagine the only thing that will stop this threat is lethal force--or the realization that they possess such capabilities.

“The truth that Helmke and other gun prohibitionists masquerading as supporters of “sensible” gun ownership want suppressed is that concealed carry works.”

"Start with facts: rocks are harder than grapes, some people are killed by guns, etc. When we begin to organize those facts, we build data: Rocks are harder than any fruit, this number of people were killed by guns in the U.S. in 2007, etc. When the facts and data have become a framework of knowledge, some useful conclusions can be drawn. A most helpful framework as been created by John Lott, a researcher at the School of Law at Yale University ... He studied the crime statistics for 2,853 counties in America for the period 1977 to 1992 for a book called 'More Guns, Less Crime' ... Before the second edition published, he updated his research with crime statistics through 1997. That is a huge body of data!" ...

... "Frankly, although I consider myself a fairly hardcore gun rights advocate, I am torn when it comes to this kind of law. I cannot easily dismiss the argument that a property owner has the right to prohibit pretty much anything on his or her property ... On the other hand, some argue that fundamental human rights ... are always inviolate, and that property owners cannot legitimately demand the surrender of such rights, even on their own property. It's always a dilemma when rights collide."

"Since many states have either passed, or are considering, laws allowing law-abiding citizens to store a self-defense or sporting firearm in the employer's parking lot while working, the issue of guns at the workplace has become a hotly-debated topic. But heated rhetoric is often misleading."

"Brady Campaign has published a report called Forced Entry: The [NRA's] Campaign To Force Business To Accept Guns At Work. It includes the term 'CCW' 17 times by the end of page 1 ... Dan wrote how citizens act in emergency, and many emergency professionals believe the person turning in the alarm and acting on behalf of another, as in cases of first aid or CPR until the assets arrive, is the first link in the chain of emergency care. It's textbook. ... My question is why our public servants work so damned hard to frustrate this concept when it comes to how one handles a crime emergency? FULL TEXT BELOW:

Oklahoma Democratic Congressman Dan Boren is a member of a bi-partisan congressional group called the Second Amendment Task Force. They've written a letter to the president and attorney general, asking that they turn away from a ban on assault weapons. Boren says that would include the semi-automatic shotguns duck hunters use, and similar weapons that may only look menacing, but they're not assault weapons. Boren notes fully automatic firearms, such as machine guns, have been illegal since the 1940's. He further defends the letter saying the Clinton administration gun ban did nothing to deter crime. Boren says more energy needs to be focused on economic concerns.

"According to figures provided by the Livingston County clerk, the number of permits issued in 2008 was nearly double the number issued the year before. The trend has continued in the early months of this year." ...

"'There is a general feeling that the new administration in Washington will take a very hard line on citizen rights to bear arms,' said Livingston County Commissioner Dave Domas ...
