A March 20, 2023, Texas Tribune report claims officers, many of whom were armed with AR-15s, were afraid to confront the lone Uvalde school attacker, who was allegedly armed with an AR-15. The Tribune quotes numerous police officers from various departments explaining the reason they abandoned protocol for confronting mass shooters is that they heard other officers on the radio saying the attacker had an “AR-15” or an “AR.” |

The Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved a resolution designating McLeod County as a “Second Amendment Dedicated County.” The resolution in part expresses opposition to any law in the future, beyond existing laws to date, that would unconstitutionally restrict the rights of the law-abiding citizens of McLeod County to keep and bear arms. |

Before 1900, was there a legal history in America of prohibiting particular types of arms? Yes, but it is very short. The far more common policy for controversial arms, such as Bowie knives or handguns, was forbidding concealed carry, limiting sales to minors, or imposing extra punishment for use in a crime.

At the State Capitol on Wednesday, House Republicans are planning to voice their concerns during a press conference about an 11-bill gun safety package being pushed through by the Legislature's Democratic majority. The Michigan House could take a vote on the package as soon as this week. If passed, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is likely to sign the legislation into law.
