... "Anticipating people might not want to turn themselves into a police force that fully half the citizenry sees as corrupt and violent -- and with good reason – the government is now worried that, rather than identify themselves and surrender to officials they fear, and not wanting to be caught and imprisoned for violating disarmament edicts, some may opt to just throw ordnance away. To that end, those in charge have put out an appeal asking that hand grenades not be disposed of in the trash, a potentiality that if it does happen, will be purely of the government’s making." ...

... "The need for transparent oversight and accountability under such circumstances must include assurances that all officers deployed are versed and committed to the Bill of Rights, required in the oath to the Constitution mandated by Article. VI. That further includes an understanding of a duty to reject unlawful orders, the core purpose behind Oath Keepers, and a legitimate concern Americans should have regarding all officers." ...

Revealing that 'Jones will depart to pursue opportunities in the private sector,' the announcement makes no mention of where he will go, although yesterday’s report noted information alleging he will be joining the National Football League’s legal team." ...

"Kenneth Roberts, 'a 92-year-old World War II US Navy veteran' recently had a letter to the editor published in the Las Vegas Informer. Appropriately titled Questioning the Second Amendment, he poses seven questions designed to demonstrate, despite all evidence to the contrary, that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual right to keep and bear arms . . ." ...

'I mean I just, I am that concerned that he is a very bad influence and a very bad man that if this is who the NRA decides to put on their board of directors I don't think I can be associated with them,' Beck said."

"I keep exploring the Mech Tech Carbine Conversion Unit ... a cleverly-designed 'upper' that you snap your GLOCK pistol 'lower' into, converting your wundergun into a 16″-barrel carbine rifle. This particular unit converts the GLOCK into a 10mm rifle. I previously evaluated the Mech Tech with some hollowpoint ammunition for its suitability and performance as a self-defense weapon. It was impressive, sure, but I couldn’t help but think that that was the wrong path to go trundling down. Sure, it could be used for that purpose, but the bullets were overdriven so fast that they were ripped apart when the hit the gel. And that got me thinking — what would this unit be like, using some big heavy solid hardcast bullets? . . ." ...

New York Times: The Gun Lobby, The Gun Lobby, The Gun Lobby!

"'The power of the gun lobby over statehouse politicians has led to a raft of laws dear to gun rights adherents, from a measure allowing concealed firearms on college campuses to one legalizing the open carrying of holstered pistols for those who like to swagger into restaurants and coffee bars,' Francis X. Clines opines at nytimes.com. 'The growing question of whether the lobby had nullified all serious political resistance was answered Friday when West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, usually a reliable supporter of the [NRA], vetoed a bill to scrap the current law that citizens have to get a permit and take gun safety lessons in order to legally carry a concealed weapon in the state.' Question: what is the gun lobby? Is it . . ." ...

"A gun control group has done something that no other advocacy group has done – they are selling guns. Here’s Why Gun Grabbers Are So Nasty

"We’ve noted for a while now how nasty the forces of civilian disarmament have become in recent years. Since their failure to significantly move the anti-gun needle after Newtown — an opportunity they saw as a sure thing for rolling back Second Amendment rights — the gun-grabbing community seems to have ratcheted up (or down, really) the venom and vulgarity. One of our readers, Ozallos, posited the following theory under our post, ‘Why Are Anti-Gunners So Vile? – ConcealedNation.org Reads Their Hate Mail’ . . ." ...

"Despite speculation that he’d allow constitutional carry to become law without his signature, West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin wasted no time in vetoing Senate Bill 347 when it hit his desk. As wtrf.com reports, in true Manchinesque style, Tomblin wanted everyone in the state to know that’s he’s all for gun rights. Just ask the NRA! 'Throughout my career, I have strongly supported the Second Amendment, as demonstrated by my repeated endorsements and high grades from the National Rifle Association.' . . ." ...

"What a difference a year can make."

"In 2014, a bill passed in the House 92-4 that would have the names associated with concealed weapons permits to be excluded from the public record and used for law-enforcement purposes only. After being passed to the state Senate, House Bill 4310 died in the Judiciary Committee for lack of action."

"With Obama’s attorney general nominee, Loretta Lynch, still lacking the votes for confirmation, Democrats are looking for four pro-gun control Republicans who will cross the aisle and support Lynch’s nomination."

"Democrats are doing their best to shame Republicans into this by labeling reasoned, pro-Second Amendment opposition to Lynch in racist jargon."

"But according to The Hill, gun rights groups are digging in their heels to dissuade Republicans from crossing over to do what Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) did in December, when he broke with the GOP and gun owners everywhere by giving Democrats the one vote they needed to confirm anti-gun Surgeon General Vivek Murthy." ...

Responsible use of firearms for sporting purposes and personal protection are valued components of South Dakota’s heritage, ones that support important ... industries, as well as keep our communities safe. "The federal [ATF] has never been a favorite with gun rights groups or their champions on Capitol Hill. To put it mildly."

"The departure of ATF Director B. Todd Jones this week was 'to pursue other opportunities in the private sector,' as the official announcement declared – reportedly to a newly-created senior position with the [NFL]."

"But the real reason Mr. Jones’ tenure at the controversial ATF finally came to an end had to do with an attempt to ban certain armor-piercing bullets used in AR-15 assault-style weapons. For the [NRA] and other pro-gun groups, controlling ammunition is just as objectionable as regulating gun ownership." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined. — Patrick Henry, during Virginia's Convention to Ratify the Constitution (1788)
