"They're becoming the weapons of choice for terrorists. Screeners at one airport may have saved hundreds of lives after finding a cell phone with a deadly secret. ..."

"While airport screeners are taught to look for guns, knives, even bombs, the terrorists are learning how to disguise their weapons like never before."

"CBS 2 has learned that screeners are now being told to look, not just for already assembled bombs, but for components, each carried by a separate courier on the same flight."

"And some guns being used, sure don't look like guns."

"It looks like an ordinary cell phone, but it's not. Months ago TSA screeners were told by the FBI to be on the look out for these deadly weapons. And a law enforcement source says they found one."

"Two years into stepped-up security screening at the nation's airports, the flow of passengers trying to board with prohibited items continues unabated."

"...U.S. Transportation Security Administration passenger screeners have confiscated some 5,000 items since the start of the year - though most people innocently forget they have banned items, officials said."

"Of those, 27 were considered dangerous or deadly weapons - guns, incendiary devices or knives with blades longer than 3 inches." ...

"TSA yesterday did a show and tell with a small bin's worth of confiscated item that included a couple of power drills, a small iron skillet, credit card-sized knife holders, and nails the length of a pen."

"A teenager was suspended for bringing a plastic air gun to school for use as a prop in an anti-drug video, but parents and other supporters want the district administrators to reinstate the honor student.

Since the 1998 shooting rampage at Columbine High School in Colorado, the district has had a zero-tolerance policy about enforcing a ban on any type of weapon, real or fake.

Paul Houchin, 17, was suspended from Foothill Technology High School on March 10 after bringing the air gun to school."

"He had the air gun in his backpack and intended to leave it in his car until he started work on the video after school."

"But he forgot about the gun and accidentally brought it to class."

Four thugs arrived at Carl Lindsay's home with a gun. Not being allowed to defend himself with the most effective tool on the market today - a gun - Mr. Lindsay grabbed a samurai sword and defended himself, killing one of the armed thugs in the process.

For taking responsibility for his own life and safety...

For defending himself instead of submitting dutifully like a good, obedient sheep...

Mr. Lindsay will spend eight years in prison, proving once again how corrupt, repugnant and morally bankrupt the UK has become.

"And if Australians can't be trusted with laser pointers or swords, they surely can't be trusted with guns. Citizens in other countries are obviously much more trustworthy. Americans, for example, can own all these items. Indeed, 46 states in the US even trust millions of law-abiding Americans to carry concealed handguns when walking on the street or eating in restaurants." ...

"If dangerous weapons made citizens in other countries dangerous, no one would visit Switzerland. There, all able-bodied men between the ages of 20 and 42 are trusted to keep a machinegun in their homes as part of their military service. ...Yet the trust in the Swiss is well placed. Switzerland has one of the lowest murder rates in Europe."

"A proposed state ban on assault weapons appears doomed this year in Annapolis -- unless the sponsor pursues an unusual parliamentary maneuver."

"The bill faces a governor who opposes it and a Senate committee poised to reject it by a single vote. Failure means firearms outlawed by the expiring federal ban could go back on the market in Maryland this fall."

"But Sen. Robert J. Garagiola could wed the stalled weapons ban with a tax bill he has recently introduced. That effort might be the last best hope of supporters because the original bill is hung up in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee."

"However, Rep. Lynda Boudreau, R-Faribault, chief sponsor of the law, said other sheriffs had told her that the processing fee - as much as $100 per permit - was sufficient, and she wondered whether the three counties were 'spending far more time and resources' than necessary."

"Recently I came across an interesting story out of Canada. It seems that prison guards in Edmonton are going to be told not to wear stab-proof Kevlar vests in order not to offend the prisoners. According top the Calgary Sun, prison officials at a maximum security prison in Edmonton operated by Corrections Canada have decided the protective vests send a “confrontational” message to the inmates."

"Isn’t this just about the most inane thing you could imagine hearing? In the interest of being sensitive to the feelings of violent criminals prison guards are going to be put in greater danger. Apparently inmates feelings mean more than guards lives to Canadian prison officials. In fact one prison official, Tim Krause had this interesting and disturbing quote: 'It interferes with what we call ‘dynamic security’. We want staff to talk to prisoners, to see how they are doing.' "

"How nice and cozy, what a wonderfully sensitive and totally clueless ideal to strive for. It is not an unfamiliar ideal for those on the far-left of the political spectrum though. For decades now those folks have sought every imaginable way to appease evil. Of course evil can never be appeased or placated. Playing nice with evil-doers has never and will never work. This has been proven over and over again, yet these appeasement-minded Leftists never seem to learn from history’s lessons."

"The trouble was said to have started when the deputy governor of the state, Mr. Abiodun Aluko, visited the college for unrelated matters, and the students showed hostility to him. That was the beginning of disorder on the campus. To restore calm and peace to the institution, the Ekiti State government shut down the college and ordered its students to vacate the campus. Apparently to enforce the order, a lorry load of mobile policemen was drafted to the college. The students responded by hurling stones at the police, who countercharged by firing at the rioting students, killing six and wounding many more, out of whom four later died in hospitals."

"For similar senseless killings in the past, the police had pleaded 'accidental discharge', 'self-defence', 'faulty aiming', or similar flimsy excuses. On the slippery grounds, the police had in the past killed motorists for refusing to offer routine bribes, and workers protesting against arbitrary increases in fuel prices, and even persons in police custody, and so on. None of these excuses should be the justification for the massacre of the students."

-------
This story makes it painfully clear why the right to keep and bear arms protects all other rights and is the last line of defense against tyranny and why Brady's "only the police and military should have guns."

"In a recent news story, the Ft. Wayne News-Sentinel raided the privacy of concealed handgun license-holders, and "outed" a few high-profile people. Most interstingly, the list included the anti-gun editor of a competing paper - the Ft. Wayne Journal- Gazette's Tracy Warner."

"The editors at the News-Sentinel were kind enough to ask their readers if they believed the paper should proceed with plans to make the entire list of Allen Co (IN) CHL-holders available online (something editors at the Columbus Dispatch, Cleveland Plain Dealer and Elyria Chronicle haven't had the courtesy to do!)."

"The results are in, and 95% of News-Sentinel readers told the paper to trash their idea."

"Nearly one month after the Missouri Supreme Court identified a flaw in the state's new concealed weapons law, legislation to fix the problem has made scant progress in the Missouri Legislature."

"Despite concerns that a flood of lawsuits could result as county sheriffs begin issuing permits to carry concealed weapons to qualified Missourians, Senate President Pro Tem Peter Kinder, R-Cape Girardeau, said there is no urgent need for lawmakers to address the issue this year. Once the legislature returns from its annual spring recess on Monday, it has just seven weeks to finish work on a number of priority issues before its mandatory May 14 adjournment."

"A measure allowing Kansans to carry concealed weapons went to the full Senate Tuesday, after narrow endorsement by the Federal and State Affairs Committee."

"The panel advanced the bill by a vote of five to four, but attempts to broaden the list of places where concealed guns would remain forbidden failed on similar votes."

"The most significant change from the House version of the bill is that the attorney general's office would issue permits, rather than the Kansas Bureau of Investigation."

"Superintendent Dr. James Mitchell said the board is not easing-up on the policy of who should be suspended or expelled but just providing educators a little more flexibility. Mitchell says the board has already approved a draft revision of the policy."

" 'I don't think zero tolerance is too tough,' said Mitchell, 'Because, one of the things we're guaranteeing with zero tolerance is a safe environment.' "

The one thing you're guaranteeing with "zero tolerance" is lack of common sense.

"Some police departments have moved away from the shotgun and are loading a different weapon, the A-R-15, which is the civilian version of the M-16 used by the military. The owner of Rangemaster, Tom Givens has an idea why officers would want to make the switch. 'This, this and this are all pellets that missed the target at 25-yards. ... Givens says the shotgun doesn't have the range and accuracy of an AR-15. 'These took care of this problem ..., which is the whole purpose of the rifle.' "

-------
But according to the Atlantic, IA Chief of Police, these types of weapons are only good for "robbing banks" and "shooting stuff up."

"NEC's biometric team has developed a facial recognition algorithm they claim can match a captured image with a database with better accuracy than ever before."

"It uses 'geodesic illumination basis' or GIB descriptors as registered data. These are calculated from a 3D facial scan and negates factors - such as lighting and pose - that hinder traditional 2D with 2D comparisons. It does require that the person has been specially photographed in their 3D photobooth."

"Using a process called Precise Match-on-Card(TM), a finger image templates will be used solely to authenticate the card-holding recipient by comparing the immediate scan of the recipient's finger with the template on the card. Precise Match-on-Card(TM) is secure and beneficial; secure because it does not rely on either a network or a database of images; beneficial due to the speed of authentication that is less than one second. This process is self-contained and neither the scanned finger image nor the template is transmitted across a network or saved to a database, thus eliminating any opportunity of interception or abuse."
