Today, Washington Governor Jay Inslee turned his back on law-abiding gun owners in the Evergreen State, ignored overwhelming public opposition, and has once again snubbed our Second Amendment Right to self-defense. This morning, the Governor signed anti-gun measures, Senate Bill 5078, House Bill 1705, and House Bill 1630. The NRA, our members, and Second Amendment supporters from across the state crowded virtual committee rooms and legislator inboxes with cries of "VOTE NO," setting state records for public engagement in numerous hearings. |

South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem on Tuesday signed legislation that repeals all concealed carry permit fees in the state.
"Three years ago, I took a bold stand by signing constitutional carry into law to ensure there were no barriers between South Dakotans and their rights," Noem told Fox News Digital. "This week, I took the step to remove a financial barrier. It shouldn't cost you a penny to exercise your Second Amendment rights. Government exists to protect our rights, not profit from them." |

Gun and ammunition sales in the U.S. have skyrocketed in recent years. And although it may come as a surprise, this trend has supported conservation activities.
That’s because every firearm and bullet produced or imported into the U.S. is subject to an excise tax dedicated to wildlife conservation and restoration. In 1998, these taxes generated about US$247 million in inflation-adjusted apportionments to state fish and wildlife agencies from the federal U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, which collects and manages these funds. By 2018, these revenues had more than tripled to $829 million. |

The Escambia County School Board Tuesday night approved an emergency rule to make it illegal for students to have a weapon in a vehicle on a school campus.
Florida law says it’s technically legal for anyone 18 or older to have a lawfully concealed firearm in their vehicle, except when a school board approves an exception to the law for students.
The school district currently has rules against a weapon in a vehicle on a campus, but until Tuesday night a violation would only lead to school disciplinary action. With the emergency rule, law enforcement now had the authority to arrest a student for a weapon on campus. |

The Illinois Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) requirement came in with the enormous gun control push done by Democrats in 1968, during the Johnson administration.
In 2017, an Illinois state judge, T. Scott Webb, of White County, found the FOID unconstitutional. The case made it to the Illinois Supreme Court, where it was sent back to the District Court for clarification.
In 2021, it was found to be unconstitutional again and has again made its way back to the Illinois Supreme court. From the decision, Case 17-CM-60, 26 April 2021: |

Voters at Town Meeting Saturday passed a resolution declaring Waltham a Second Amendment sanctuary town.
Selectman Chris Kravitt, who championed the measure and sought to have it placed on the meeting warrant, said the resolution is symbolic and reflects Waltham’s traditions and values. He said the town has a long history of responsible gun ownership and enjoyment. Many residents hunt or do target practice. He estimates at least half of the households in town own guns and “probably more than that.” There are about 350 Waltham residents. |

The state’s influential gun lobby suffered a key setback Thursday as its demands for state-mandated access to bank services ran headlong into the right of the banks not to do business with them.
Sen. David Livingston, R-Peoria, refused to allow a vote on a proposal to require businesses to certify that they don’t discriminate against firearms manufacturers, dealers or suppliers if they want to get a contract to provide products or services to the state or local governments. That came after it became obvious there were not the votes on the panel to advance the measure to the full Senate.

HB 272 trickles down in Alabama to all levels, including Lee County. Sheriff Jay Jones approached the Lee County Commission in November, before Ivey signed the bill, asking commissioners to continue a requirement for purchasing concealed carry pistol permits.
“It’s about pro-community safety,” he said in November. “… The current law that’s in place [requires] a person to obtain, by a fee, a pistol permit, to carry a handgun, concealed on about their person or even more importantly, in their vehicle, as they go about their business. And it’s the business of some that I would like to address. |

People often ask me if a person who shoots someone should also give medical aid to that person. I think the question is valid and worth some consideration.
Should you help someone you shot unintentionally — Let's start with an unintentional shooting victim. Maybe the person you shot is a friend or family member, a stranger, or even you. In this situation, you should do what you can to help the person survive. |

Just a few days before the new year I received an email from a PR consultant with Axon, formerly Taser International of Scottsdale, Arizona. Would I like to come to a training session at a Kalihi shopping center on Jan. 1, where Axon would introduce its products?
The invitation was extended because I had written a column in August on how Tasers and stun guns would become legal this year, making Hawaii the 49th state (according to Axon) to allow the self-defense products. Would the new law lead local folks 21 and older to arm themselves, I wondered. |

Internal ATF documents obtained by the Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) and Gun Owners of America (GOA) through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request reveal that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), once again and, to no one’s surprise, has completely reversed its own internal guidance in order to prosecute Polymer80, a company that manufactures gun parts and other non-firearms such as 80% frames and receivers. |

The American legislative process depends on the willingness of elected representatives to engage in debate without recourse to force or coercion. Legislative assemblies are battlefields of ideas, not physical power, and they’re established on principles of reason and free expression.
That’s why the presence of armed legislators is antithetical to legislating, and lawmakers should keep their guns out of the Capitol. |

“We have heard from concerned constituents that the ATF is attempting to restrict the ability of law-abiding Americans to make their own silencers. This ATF attempt to expand the definition of a silencer—like the ATF’s other regulatory actions—is contrary to years of ATF precedent and beyond the scope of the agency’s authority under federal law. We demand that you immediately stop this effort to curtail fundamental Second Amendment rights,” the lawmakers wrote. |

An official with a Second Amendment advocacy group is hailing a judge’s decision in the group’s favor in its lawsuit against the Wyoming secretary of state.
Aaron Dorr, policy advisor for Wyoming Gun Owners, said he was pleased that a federal court ruled as unconstitutional a state law that would have made the group disclose its donors.
“”With help from the Institute for Free Speech we won … securing a victory for the First Amendment and the Second Amendment at the same time,” he told Cowboy State Daily. “On to the primaries!” |

Indiana has become the 24th state to adopt so-called “constitutional carry” legislation, as Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb has signed legislation eliminating the need for a license to carry a handgun, eliciting anguish from the gun prohibition lobby.
According to WXIN News in Indianapolis, the state chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action—both subsidiaries of anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety—issued a statement via Cathy Weinmann, a volunteer with the Indiana Moms chapter. |

At this writing, plaintiffs in a federal case challenging California’s “high capacity” magazine ban had filed an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court for review of their case, known as Duncan v. Bonta. They won twice, at trial and then on appeal to a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, but then the court held an en banc re-hearing with 11 judges, and they reversed.
So, since Washington is also in the Ninth Circuit, we’ll all probably see authorities in that state pushing hard to prevent the high court from reviewing the Duncan case. It is time for the Supremes to take such a case to further define the parameters of the Second Amendment. Let’s hope they are very broad. |
