"Once again when faced with a controversy, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels is reviving his plan to ban legally-carried firearms from city property, and the Second Amendment Foundation today promises once again to immediately take him to court."
"'This time around,' said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb, 'Mayor Nickels needs to raise this issue to distract public attention from the political smell arising from the snow-plowing investigation. We remind the mayor that his office has been warned by Attorney General Rob McKenna that neither he, nor the city, has the authority to enact such a ban under state preemption.'"

"THE PROBLEM: Guns accounted for more than half of the deaths resulting from domestic violence in Maryland from June 2007 to July 2008. The solution, according to some lawmakers: more guns. The Maryland Senate may vote as early as today on an amendment that would make it easier for victims of domestic violence to obtain guns. In theory, empowering victims could discourage potential abusers. In practice, adding guns to an already combustible situation is likely to lead to more violence. The Senate should reject the amendment." ... -------

A proposed new Albany County law that would require gun shops to register the ammunition it sells — a controversial measure that has brought out Second Amendment advocates locally, and across the country – is on hold.
Legislator Bryan Clenahan, chairman of the Law Committee, sent the measure Monday night to Albany County Attorney Craig Denning for a ruling on its constitutionality.
That means the Law Committee — to where the proposal was forwarded during a meeting of the full legislature earlier this month — will have no further comment on the law until a decision is made by Denning. Tonight’s scheduled public hearing on the matter is cancelled until further notice, Clenahan said. |
