"The cure that was arranged by Montana Senators Baucus and Tester to fix the intended military destruction of once-fired cartridge brass last year appears to be suffering from a fatal end-run."

"Interested persons will remember that a year ago, helpful intervention by Montana's senators persuaded the Department of Defense to rescind a fresh DoD directive to military installation commanders requiring them to destroy once-fired brass, prior to selling it at auction into the civilian marketplace for ammunition reloading and other purposes."

"An end-run is being done around the rescinding order through quiet and sweetheart side deals with installation commanders ..." ...

"Waving a chromed semiautomatic pistol, the robber pushed into the building ... just before 11 p.m. on April 11, 2009. 'Gimme what you got!' he yelled, his gun hand trembling."

"Attorney Jim Corley was one of four people in the room ... 'He said, 'Give me your wallet,' Corley recalled. 'So I reached around to my back pocket and gave him what was there.'"

"Unfortunately for the gunman ... that was Corley’s tiny Kel-Tec .32, hidden in a wallet holster and loaded with a half-dozen hollow points. Corley fired once into the robber's abdomen. The young man turned. Corley fired twice more, hitting him in the neck and again in the torso. Helms ran into the night and collapsed to die on a railroad embankment 100 feet away." ...

That and turn state's evidence..."

"David Codrea writes in his national gun-rights Examiner column this week about a bill introduced in the Louisiana legislature. Senator Troy Hebert has introduced SB534, a proposition which will allow the people of Louisiana to carry in state parks."

"Codrea states, and I agree, Louisiana should capitalize on the momentum from the federal law change allowing for national parks carry. The people of this state should be allowed to protect themselves on state park land as they are allowed in national parks. However, it seems the gun owners of Louisiana are not as familiar with this senate bill as they should be. "This morning's report carried by MSNBC.com headlined 'Record numbers now licensed to pack heat' further confirms what gun rights activists have been arguing for years: More guns in private hands does not equate to more homicides."

"It's obvious that Senior News Editor Mike Stuckey did his homework, invested a lot of effort and worked hard to make this a balanced, objective report. What his story revealed comes as no surprise to Second Amendment advocates. America's homicide rate has declined while gun ownership has risen dramatically, and an increasing number of law-abiding citizens are now packing heat." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

This is concerning a writer's last sentence "... "You sure won't hear about anyone trying to rob Starbucks "... ." How would it be a deterrent if the guns being toted are free of ammunition as stated in the articles?

How in this day and age are we sure these "free to carry" guns are actually free of ammo? We are no longer a trusting society, and with good reason. Will the guns be opened and offered for view on entry to Starbucks, to reassuringly prove they carry no ammunition?

Either carry a gun legally and out of sight, or wear the uniform that legally carries a gun. The rest is garbage — an egocentric, testosterone-riddled, pathetic show of bunk.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

The Florida House has sent Gov. Charlie Crist a bill that will prohibit lawmakers from raiding a trust fund that covers the costs of the state's concealed weapons permitting program.

The bill (SB 1158) won unanimous approval Tuesday after previously clearing the Senate.

It's top priority for the National Rifle Association.

Crist, who is running for the U.S. Senate this year, vetoed a $6 million raid on the trust fund in 2009.

The fund is financed by fees collected from permit applicants.

It's become common practice for cash-strapped lawmakers to dip into trust funds that are earmarked for specific purposes to get more money for general government purposes such as schools and health care.

"The Jonathan Ayers story was already outrageous enough. Last September, Ayers, a 28-year-old Baptist pastor from Lavonia, Georgia, was gunned down by a North Georgia narcotics task force in the parking lot of a gas station. Ayers had not been a suspect in any drug investigation. And even today, police acknowledge he was not using or trafficking in illicit drugs. ..."

"... But that's really only the beginning of this mess. In a lawsuit filed last week, Abigail Ayers makes some astonishing new allegations ... Most damning: The police officer who killed Ayers wasn't even authorized to be carrying a gun or a badge." ...

"These allegations have since been confirmed by local TV station WSBTV and, after the fact, by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation ..." ...

"Picture yourself as a small child happily playing with a strange, new toy in you house. A moment later you're crying in the corner. You just shot your best friend. If you're an adult with kids you're probably thinking, "That couldn't be my kid...my kid would never do that." But what if your kid wasn't the one with the gun? Too many children don't know what to do around guns. All schools should institute gun safety classes."

"If people knew how to use guns safely the number of gun related accidents would decrease dramatically. ..." ...

"In The Reporter of March 13, there was a column on the opinion page by Dan K. Thomasson under the 'Nation' heading titled, 'The several varieties of gun nuts.'"
