Philip Baruth, D-Chittenden County, an original sponsor, said the waiting period is a compromise that will "save lives."

A majority of Americans favor stricter gun laws, and most believe places of worship and schools have become less safe over the last two decades, according to a new poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. The survey was conducted both before and after this month’s mass shooting at two mosques in New Zealand. It found that 67 percent of Americans support making US gun laws stricter, while 22 percent say they should be left as they are and 10 percent think they should be made less strict.

The legislation, by Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, comes in the wake of the death of Ethan Song, 15, of Guilford, Conn. |

As the gun debate intensifies around the country, hundreds of people gathered across the street from the Oregon State capitol Saturday to rally their support for the second amendment. Nearly 2,000 people descended on Salem to defend their right to bear arms. Organized by Oregon-based weapons manufacturers, this event comes as a response to a number of bills, including Senate Bill 501, which if passed would require gun owners get a permit before purchasing a firearm, add mandatory gun locks, and limit ammunition purchases. |

Banning the personal ownership of stun guns in New York state is unconstitutional because it violates individuals’ Second Amendment right to bear arms, a federal judge ruled Friday. “New York’s sweeping prohibition on the possession and use of tasers and stun guns by all citizens for all purposes, even for self-defense in one’s own home, must be declared unconstitutional,” U.S. District Judge David Hurd wrote in his decision according to The Associated Press. Hurd also wrote that people trading firearms for stun guns could result in fewer weapons deaths. |

The gun control debate is fired up in Colorado again. Both sides are heated over House Bill 1177 (also referred to as the “red flag law”), which codifies the use of extreme risk protection orders, or ERPOs. Even if you don’t identify with either side of this debate, it is not hard to see how deeply flawed this legislation is and how it threatens many constitutional rights in addition to the Second Amendment.

Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) executive director Richard A. Pearson is urging all “law-abiding gun owners” to turn out for Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD) on March 27 in Springfield. “This is the best chance for law-abiding gun owners to show how important our Second Amendment rights are to us,” Pearson said in a March 21 bulletin sent to members. “IGOLD could not come at a more opportune time. I expect legislation to begin to move in a few weeks. Now is the time to show legislators how dedicated we are to preserving our Second Amendment rights.” |

Nowhere is America’s problem with guns more striking than in the nation’s schools. Columbine, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, to name just a few: hundreds of schools and colleges across the country have been the scene of traumatic shootings. In a mocked-up classroom at the Global Education Skills Forum in Dubai this weekend, three American teachers—Brian Copes of Hoover City Schools, Principal Nadia Lopez of the Mott Hall Bridges Academy, and Mark Vondraceck of the Evanston Township High School—shared their experiences in fighting violence and mental health problems among their students. |

The state with the motto “Live Free or Die” and in 2017 instituted constitutional carry has advanced more gun control bills through the legislature. New Hampshire is known for being a libertarian-leaning haven. Being libertarian also includes some of the least restrictive gun laws in the country. If New Hampshire House Democrats get their way, then that will soon change. On Tuesday, the bill known as HB514 passed the Democrat-controlled legislative body by a vote of 199-147. The proposed law would instate a seven-day waiting period on gun purchases. |

Most ammunition-accuracy tests use one gun. Writers acknowledge that the results are specific to the test gun and the results might not apply to your particular firearm. This is certainly true, but few articles test the same ammo in different guns, so we decided to do just that by comparing the accuracy of 15 different factory loads in three popular guns. |

A survey released in January by the U.S. Department of Justice revealed some very interesting information about how criminals get their guns. And it doesn’t bode well for those who would curtail our constitutional freedom under the guise of reducing violent crime. For years, those of us on the pro-freedom side of the heated national debate over private firearm ownership have argued that the plethora of gun laws being forced upon us by gun-ban billionaires, cynical anti-gun politicians and the national media don’t affect criminals at all. After all, that’s why they are called “criminals”—they don’t obey the law. |

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke said Sunday that his personal use and ownership of firearms taught him the responsibility of having guns and can help bridge politically fraught discussions about gun control in the U.S. The former Texas congressman told The Associated Press in an interview Sunday in Las Vegas that he inherited guns belonging to his great uncle, who had taught him how to shoot and handle a firearm responsibly. He says he and his wife, Amy, who grew up on a New Mexico ranch and used guns, made sure their children also knew how to safely handle guns. |

Some people in the CSRA say the ban on bump stocks is a move just to appease those who advocate for more gun control. They also say they doubt bump stock owners will be handing the gun accessory over to government officials. Although if owners don't, and they get caught, they could end up being a convicted felon. President Trump said last year, "I signed a memorandum directing the attorney general to propose legislation to ban all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns." |

Enjoy those easy-to-see large flocks of turkeys feeding in the fields while you can. In the next few weeks, the winter flocks will break up, and where you saw them last weekend is not where they’ll be when spring turkey season opens in April. Bagging a wild turkey is a challenge for even the most experienced hunters. Of the 50,000 licenses sold each spring, about 20 percent are placed on a bird. |
