MI: Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team Dominates Competition At 2022 SASP College Nationals

Hillsdale College’s Varsity Action Pistol Team performed well at its first competition of the year, securing first place in the 1911 division with a team score of 210.64 and also earning runner-up in the stock service pistol division scoring 227.50 at the 2022 Scholastic Action Shooting Program College National Championships, held March 11-13 at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Alabama.
Hillsdale College’s Greg Clement topped the overall men’s shooter leaderboard at the match, with times of 45.66 in 1911 and 47.56 in center-fire, while his teammate, Sarah Wagoner, was the runner-up in the women’s 1911 pistol division championship with a time of 106.12, plus an impressive 110.98 in the center-fire division. |
Canada: Cadets participate in marksmanship day as in-person training returns

The return of in-person training for the Swift Current Navy League cadets presents new possibilities for different events to keep them active for the rest of the program year.
A marksmanship day is one of the activities that became possible again as a result of in-person training.
Members of the #128 Navy League Cadet Corps Prairie Schooner participated in marksmanship training at the Lt. Colonel Clifton Centre, March 5.
Sub-Lieut. Danna Mulhall, the commanding officer of #128 Navy League Cadet Corps Prairie Schooner, said in-person training started again on Feb. 23.
“It’s a huge change,” she noted. “The kids are excited and we’re excited.” |

An exciting new youth program will soon be offered to Bitterroot Valley youth, provided the financial backing can be found to fund the program.
The Bitterroot Marksmanship Club will be open to interested youth ages 10-18. According to David Naber, one of the organizers, this program will allow Bitterroot Valley youth to compete at the local, state and national levels in marksmanship. They will operate under the rules of the sport’s US governing body, the congressionally sanctioned Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). Naber’s partner in the venture is Joe Hein.
Both Naber and Hein are US Army veterans and have extensive experience in youth marksmanship programs. |

On Wednesday, LCSO spokesperson Angela Green said the case was closed and no one was charged.
The Democrat has submitted a public records requests for all incident reports related to the shooting and left a message with State Attorney Jack Campbell.
Campbell told WCTV that the driver’s use of force was lawful under self-defense, and the passenger admitted to police that he had “put his hands” on the driver. The station reported the cab driver, who had just started carrying a gun the month before, became scared after the passenger became angry. |

At 10:15 on Thursday morning, officers located the suspect who barricaded himself in his home and refused to surrender. Police say after 45 minutes the man gave himself over to authorities and was taken into custody.
Investigators say the suspect stabbed the man in self defense, after the 40-year-old tried to physically attack him.
The suspect has since been released, and the victim is in stable condition. |

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed House Bill 1358 as a committee substitute with language from Senate Bill 319. Then, the House Judiciary Committee passed Senate Bill 319 as a committee substitute with language from House Bill 1358. They will now go to the chamber floors for further consideration.
Constitutional carry allows a law-abiding adult who is legally allowed to carry a concealed firearm, to do so without first having to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have the right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. Additionally, this legislation maintains the existing concealed handgun license system, so citizens who still wish to obtain a permit may do so. |

Governor Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 215 into law on March 14, making concealed-carry permits optional in Ohio.
The law will go into effect on June 12. It states that people 21 and older can carry a concealed gun without a permit if they are legally allowed to own the gun. Ohio is the 23rd state in the United States to eliminate permits for concealed carry.
The law also eliminates the requirement to notify law enforcement officers that they are carrying a weapon, but an officer can still ask. Lying to an officer about carrying a weapon is a misdemeanor offense. |

The state’s constitutional carry law was among the discussion topics last week during the Shooting Sports Showcase at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. POMA (Professional Outdoor Media Association) and SEOPA (Southeastern Outdoor Press Association) hosted the event at the stellar 500-acre shooting range with Cheaha Mountain as a backdrop.

A woman saved her boyfriend’s life yesterday morning when a man broke into her house and pointed a gun at him.
Around 4:30 AM yesterday, a Las Vegas woman called 911 to report that her ex-boyfriend was trying to break into her home. Her current boyfriend and her three young children were also at home. The ex tried breaking in through two windows and eventually got into one. He saw the woman had a gun and left the way he came.
But he came back with a gun of his own. As he pointed the gun at her current boyfriend, the woman shot once, killing her ex-boyfriend. |

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has signed into law a bill that repeals the permit requirement to carry a gun in the Hoosier State.
Per NBC Chicago, as of July 1, anyone over the age of 18 can carry a handgun in public, barring a few restrictions. The exceptions include Indiana residents who have been convicted of a federal or state crime punishable by a year in prison or more, fugitives from justice, and those ever convicted of domestic violence, domestic battery or criminal stalking. |

Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a bill eliminating the rule in Indiana earlier this week, creating legislation that received split support from state legislators representing Hancock County.
The firearms law, which will take effect July 1, will allow anyone age 18 or older to carry a handgun in public except for reasons such as having a felony conviction, facing a restraining order from a court or having a dangerous mental illness. Supporters argue the permit requirement undermines Second Amendment protections by forcing law-abiding citizens to undergo police fingerprinting and background checks. |

Paul Kramer has traveled many times to the state Capitol the past few years.
Few trips proved as satisfying as the one on March 23, when the Mukilteo resident stood a few strides from Gov. Jay Inslee to watch him sign a new law banning the sale of large capacity ammunition magazines.

A proposed Pennsylvania gun restriction law is drawing criticism from defenders of the Second Amendment.
Rep. Darisha Parker, D-Philadelphia, proposed HB2435 that would require sales of long guns to include “a locking device to ensure safe storage of the firearm,” similar to current law that requires the same for handguns.
“It is vital that we protect the people of Pennsylvania by implementing better safe storage requirements. Safe firearm storage will reduce the prevalence of gun violence, as well as decrease theft and the trafficking of legally purchased firearms,” Parker said in a legislative memo. |

Texas Republican U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz are poised to vote against the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court following the conclusion of a multiday hearing on the historic nomination.
Jackson would be the first Black woman on the country’s highest court in its more than 230-year history — a fact that Cruz has called “inspirational” and Cornyn has called “long overdue.”
Democrats hold a slim 50-50 majority in the upper chamber and are expected to come together to confirm Jackson. A few Republicans may also give Jackson the nod, but Vice President Kamala Harris is able to break a tie in her favor if necessary. |

The bill passed during the Wyoming Legislature's recently concluded 2022 budget session. It is designed to protect Second Amendment rights, as well as prevent federal regulation of firearms, accessories, magazines and ammunition. |

Touching on the Second Amendment in U.S. Constitutional law, Jackson affirmed the right to bear arms as "fundamental right" outlined in the document. However, pressed further for what exactly a "fundamental right" is or how it may be defined, Jackson again wavered.
"Could you tell me how you might go about deciding what a fundamental right is under the Constitution?" asked Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.
"Well, Senator, I don't know that I can tell you that in the abstract, in this sort of way that you may have posed the question," Jackson responded. |

Yesterday, the Kansas Senate passed a measure that creates the option of a lifetime hunting and fishing license for children. The measure will soon head to a conference committee that will consider amendments made in both chambers.
House Bill 2456 establishes the Kansas kids lifetime combination hunting and fishing license. As amended in the House, such a license is to be issued to children who are five-years-old or younger, and the price of a license will not exceed $300. The Senate added an amendment creating a second level of the license, to be available for children between the ages of 6 to 12, for $100 more. |

Due to the energetic efforts of Nebraska State Senator Tom Brewer, Nebraska is getting close to passing LB 773, the Nebraska Constitutional Carry bill in 2022.
LB 773 has already been pulled (forced out by a vote of the Senate) from the committee, and passed the General File cloture vote with 33 votes, and three more that switched their votes when they saw it was going to pass.
It was a very close thing. In the Nebraska unicameral legislature, each bill has to pass through three votes which may be filibustered. The three votes are in the General File (done), the Select File (pending) and the Final vote (after the Select File). |
