. . . "Ban proponents and the media certainly won't give people a straight definition of what they mean by assault weapons. Judging by the AK47 and Uzi references, it's easy to think that machine guns are being banned."
"Many news reports fail to even mention that the guns in question are semiautomatic, not automatic. One gets the impression that the NRA is fighting for the right to go hunting with machine guns. Even 'The Simpsons' lampooned the ban's opponents, with Lenny (speaking at an NRA meeting) claiming that assault weapons are 'manufactured for a reason: to take out today's modern super animals.' "

"Most varmint hunters are aware that the Winchester 220 Swift has the fastest muzzle velocity of any factory cartridge. With a 40-grain bullet, the Swift generates a bit more than 4,000 feet per second at the muzzle. The Swift has reigned as 'king' for many years, but its reign apparently is over. A new kid on the block may steal the title from the Swift."
"Ruger’s new 204 caliber boasts a muzzle velocity of 4,225 fps with a 32-grain Hornady bullet. While the figures show the 204 to be much faster than the Swift, it is also worth noting that there is an 8-grain difference in bullet weight. It’s entirely possible that the Swift could easily duplicate the 204’s velocity if it used a 32-grain bullet. ..." |

"The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Louisville, also charges the police department and Louisville Metro Government with failing to properly train Mattingly and prevent Newby's death."
"Mattingly, 31, was indicted earlier this month on murder and wanton endangerment charges by a Jefferson County grand jury. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on bond." |

"A gun control battle in Missouri recently flooded the Centre County Sheriff's Office with concealed weapon permits from individuals living there."
"The overload is due to political wrangling in Missouri over the terms of a newly enacted concealed weapons law that sheriffs in that state are not complying with because the state is not adequately funding the process."
"Individuals are now applying to other states that issue permits honored in Missouri, in protest of a February state Supreme Court ruling that upheld county non-compliance."

FULL TEXT BELOW:
In the past three months, violent incidents at 12 of the most dangerous schools in New York City have declined by nearly 9 percent, the Associated Press reported March 25.
According to the Department of Education, there was an average of 3.3 violent crimes at the schools in November and December, which fell to an average of 3.02 in January, February, and March.
During the same time period, the number of citations for non-criminal incidents rose 72 percent, from 8.6 to 14.8.
The trends are attributed to Mayor Michael Bloomberg's decision to put more police officers in those schools.
------- So, people who are armed tend to suppress violence. We know that. The question is, why must they be cops, when there's a lesser crime rate among ordinary citizens with concealed firearms? |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Today the taxing power, rather than chattel slavery, is the instrument by which the parasitical element of the population subsists. And that element, which includes politicians, panics at the slightest reduction in the state's power to plunder. Once you start liberating taxpayers, even a little tiny bit, nobody knows where it may end. —Joseph Sobran |
