A judge in northeast Ohio has ruled that a 52-year-old man acted in self-defense when he fatally shot his neighbor during a fight about leaves and debris in the front yard.
A Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County judge this week found Andre Jackson of the Cleveland suburb of Bedford Heights not guilty of murder and felonious assault in the killing of Michael Davis last June.

On March 25 the Kansas House and Senate passed a concealed carry reform bill–SB 45–that ends the requirement for a permit to carry a concealed handgun in that state.
According to The Topeka Capital-Journal, SB 45 was sponsored by state representative Travis Couture-Lovelady (R-110th Dist.), who said requiring a permit for carry is just “a feel good measure.” He said his bill “is about freedom and liberty. No more fees. No license. Carrying a guns is a lifestyle and government should trust its citizens.”

A bill that would allow the licensed open carry of handguns in Texas on Thursday sailed out of the House Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee.
The action was no real surprise, given that the committee’s chairman, Rep. Larry Phillips, R-Sherman, authored the bill. The full Senate already approved its companion open carry bill, which had shifted the focus to the House. |

The Lamar County Sheriff’s Department is holding a Citizens Firearms Course on May 9.
The one-day course, aimed at firearms novices, will be held at the county’s Multi-Purpose Center in the Industrial Park off Mississippi 589.
Sheriff Danny Rigel said the course is designed for those who may have purchased a weapon, but have not fired it much, if at all. |

When the Khmer Rouge came to power in Cambodia one of the first things they did was set out to disarm the population.

A U.S. appeals court agreed on Thursday to reconsider a ruling in which a three-judge panel last year struck down a requirement by San Diego County that residents show "good cause" to carry a concealed firearm.
In a brief order, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco, said an 11-judge panel would take another look at whether San Diego County's restrictions amounted to an unconstitutional infringement on citizens' Second Amendment rights to bear arms

Two important victories for gun rights last year, that stand to torpedo California’s may-issue concealed handgun permit scheme, have been ordered reviewed by the federal appeals court that granted them.
The cases, Peruta v. San Diego and Richards v. Yolo County, were historic reversals of lower court rulings issued by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals last year which found that, in both cases, California sheriffs used unconstitutional polices to limit the right to carry under the Second Amendment. |

Recently, I wrote an oped, Does Gunsite Academy need to get with the times? In response, Gunsite Academy’s Chief Executive Officer, Ken Campbell, wrote a rebuttal on Down Range TV.
I’m thankful I got his attention.
While there are a few points of respectful debate to be raised here, I really want to just boil it down to the most important one in my mind—and the reason I wrote my article in the first place.
But first, I want to address what I readily admitted in the article: that I have never been to the Gunsite training facility. Rather, what drew my attention to them were some of the pictures and advertising they use on their social media pages and website. |

Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio introduced a bill Thursday aimed at loosening the District of Columbia’s gun laws.
The Republican lawmakers’ bill, titled the Second Amendment Enforcement Act of 2015, states that D.C. “remains one of the most dangerous large cities in the United States.” The text states that D.C.’s regulations prevent citizens from protecting themselves against violent crime. |

The House gave approval to a controversial bill Wednesday authorizing people over 21 years of age to carry concealed any type of firearm without obtaining weapons training or securing a state license.
It's been legal for nine years to carry concealed in Kansas with a permit. About 90,000 people have obtained that license after undergoing a background check, completing a safety program and paying a fee. State law also allows open carry of firearms.

The 2-1 ruling that the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals shelved Thursday, by a majority vote of its 29 judges, would have required local governments to issue gun permits to anyone of good moral character who wanted to carry a concealed weapon for self-defense. The new panel will consist of Chief Judge Sidney Thomas — who cast the dissenting vote last year to uphold the state law — and 10 other judges selected at random. The hearing is scheduled for the third week in June in San Francisco. |

The sweeping gun-control law Maryland enacted after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre impermissibly bans firearms that people commonly keep in their homes for self-defense, a lawyer for gun-rights advocates told a federal appeals court Wednesday.
Gun-rights advocates did not try to overturn most of the Firearms Safety Act of 2013’s provisions, including its fingerprinting and licensing requirements for handgun buyers. However, John Parker Sweeney urged a three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn two key provisions of the 2013 law: the ban on 45 assault weapons, and the 10-round limit on gun magazines. |

I was shocked earlier this month when the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives withdrew its proposal to prohibit the sale of 5.56 NATO armor-piercing bullets – so-called "green tip" rounds. ATF's finding that these bullets can be loaded into easily-concealed handguns – and that they pose a grave threat to police – means that they are no longer just tools for hunters. These bullets are a threat to our police officers and to our military men and women. |

The firearm industry traditionally has exhibited what can only be described as attention-deficit-like tendencies in its attempt to focus on the women’s personal-protection handgun market. While simultaneously acknowledging that the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is gender-neutral and that women have been integral to the armed citizenry for as long as the United States has been a country, its efforts to incorporate “female-friendly” features on handguns have often come across as pointless afterthoughts. |

Hawaii likes nothing more than to place its best foot forward, and for a state whose economy heavily relies on tourism, something underground is stirring, much like the lava flows of Kilauea and perhaps threatening an important image. Peruta v. San Deigo, a Second Amendment case with wide-ranging implications, revolves around the right to carry a concealed firearm and directly challenges the authority of government restrictions of that right. It sets the stage for a showdown potentially impacting the Aloha State’s image, even if just locally. |

It’s another blood-pressure-raising Tennessee legislative session – at least for a politically active group of moms concerned about their children potentially being shot.
This spring, lawmakers who want to loosen gun restrictions will get a morale boost from a three-day National Rifle Association convention. It coincides with consideration of several gun-related bills, including one that would eliminate the need for a firearms permit altogether. |

The fact that law-abiding citizens have their "rights corralled or restricted" is evident every day in every Iowa community. The 25-mile-per-hour speed limit is posted to restrain the idiot that would drive 50, while the majority of others could at times be safe at 30. Every cent we pay our police is warranted by those that abuse the law, and the burden is carried by others.

The Vermont Senate this afternoon passed a bill that sets new restrictions on gun ownership. The battle lines are being drawn ahead of House debate.
Senate bill 141 would allow law enforcement officials to prosecute felons in possession of a firearm after a previous conviction for certain classes of violent crimes.
It also includes provisions for reporting people determined by a court to be mentally ill and a danger to themselves or others to the federal background check information center. |

Legislation that would allow the carrying of concealed firearms without a permit in Kansas is on the way to the desk of Gov. Sam Brownback after being passed by both houses of the legislature, with the usual comments from opponents about “extremism,” according to ABC News and the Associated Press.
But one of the more interesting observations came from gun blogger Bob Owens at Bearing Arms.com. It is almost certain to stir up the proverbial hornet’s nest.
