One of two suspects in an assault that occurred earlier this month in downtown Indianapolis has died weeks after the victim reportedly shot him in the stomach. The man’s nephew, the other suspect in the attack, is still being held in Marion County Jail.
Indianapolis police officials confirm that 45-year-old Jamar Thomas died Tuesday at Eskenazi Hospital while receiving treatment for a gunshot wound. The man who shot Jamar told police he fired his handgun in self-defense while being attacked in the middle of the street. |

Members of the General Assembly voted to approve HB 312. This bill, sponsored by State Representative Savannah Maddox of Dry Ridge, is a straightforward but important statutory update that would allow eligible, law-abiding Kentucky adults between the ages of 18 and 20 to exercise their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. “This measure recognizes that many responsible young adults already legally vote, sign contracts, join the military, serve in combat, start a family, own a business, and work in law enforcement fields, yet under current law, these adults are prohibited from carrying a firearm concealed for self-defense,” Maddox said.
Ed.: Licensed concealed carry, not constitutional carry. A good first step. |

Missouri lawmakers’ latest attempt to bar state and local officials from helping enforce certain federal gun laws collapsed Wednesday in a House committee, defeated not only by Democrats but by Republicans who said the bill would hurt gun dealers, invite costly litigation and ignore the concerns of law enforcement.
The House General Laws Committee voted 9-3 against a bill aimed at reviving Missouri’s Second Amendment Preservation Act. The committee has 16 members — 11 Republicans and five Democrats — meaning the bill would have failed even if all four absent members had shown up. |

Texas establishments will still have the authority to ban firearms at school events, bars, stadiums and racetracks after a Trump-appointed federal judge upheld a law that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton declined to defend.
At the center of the legal challenge is a federal Second Amendment lawsuit challenging Texas’ ban on carrying firearms in any business where alcohol comprises 51% or more of sales, even if the individual is not consuming alcohol.
The plaintiffs in the case, Firearms Policy Coalition — a nonprofit gun rights advocacy group — and three individuals — Charles Ziegenfuss, David Montgomery and Brian Robinson — filed an appeal arguing that the Second Amendment gives them the right to carry firearms in such places. |

In the 2020 shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, three men in Brunswick claimed self-defense. But under current Georgia law, they had to prove it first.
But under a new bill that just passed out of a House committee, the burden of proof would fall on the state to prove it wasn’t.
“Has the state proven enough evidence that says that self-defense does not apply?” said Republican state Sen. Brian Strickland.
Strickland thinks it shouldn’t be the responsibility of the person claiming self-defense to prove it.
He’s written a bill that would allow them to claim immunity to prosecution, making it the responsibility of the state to show a judge why that self-defense claim is false. |

At the center of the defense’s frustration: prosecutors initially claimed Miller fired the fatal shot that killed Lopez-Galvan. But current prosecutor Melesa Johnson has since said that cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
“Were you given a reason why they said that the bullet took Lisa’s life, and now it’s different?” Wiegert was asked.
“No, we weren’t,” he responded. “It’s just a change of position. The evidence didn’t change.”
Johnson, who took office in January 2025, dropped the murder charge and other felonies 14 months later. Miller was released on time served. The prosecutor’s office has said his actions were justified under Missouri’s self-defense law. |

When West Virginia Senators Chris Rose and Zack Maynard introduced SB 1071, the Public Defense and Provisioning Act, on February 23, I was immediately impressed by the clever approach to restore Second Amendment rights at the state level. The Gun Owners of America (GOA) backed bill would create a state-run system that allows qualified citizens to purchase machine guns through a government office. SB 1071 was written to comply with the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA), which specifies that transfers made “by” and “under the authority of” a state meet the requirements of federal statutes for permitting possession and transfer of machine guns. |

A bill under consideration in the U.S. House of Representatives that would ban firearms at federal election sites is just another effort to demonize gun owners and the Second Amendment, according to a major gun-rights group.
Ostensibly advertised as an effort to improve safety during federal elections, House Resolution 7965 was introduced by California Rep. Raul Ruiz and is co-sponsored by D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, both rabid gun-ban advocates. The measure prohibits “unauthorized possession of a firearm” at a federal election site.
But the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) says the authors of the measure have far more nefarious reasons for filing the resolution. |

“They’re not even pretending to follow the law anymore,” Atkinson’s text continued. “We look forward to crushing this decision on appeal.”
This Connecticut decision creates a split between the District of Connecticut and the Districts of Northern Texas and Middle Florida, which ruled against the ban. The Texas case is already headed to the Fifth Circuit.
Atkinson previously represented Nastri in a lawsuit that sought to overturn Connecticut’s ban on handguns in state parks. This challenge was initially struck down by a state judge and, in September, 2025, U.S. District Court Judge Victor Bolden dismissed their appeal. |

Even so, he said, minors having access to firearms remains a serious and ongoing concern for police.
“Minors with guns is always a dangerous situation,” said Flynn.
Flynn said anyone under the age of 21 with a firearm has one illegally.
“Whether it be a vehicle break-in or a burglary or purchasing it from somebody off the street,” said Flynn.

Nearly two years ago, violence erupted around Mexico due to an ongoing drug cartel war. And, according to a new report from The Guardian, fueling that war is an increasing number of guns purchased in Arizona.
In 2024, The Guardian reported, “62% of the guns seized in Mexico and traced to a U.S. purchase less than a year earlier — a key indicator they were bought to be trafficked — came from Arizona.” The outlet notes that’s about when the current hostilities erupted within the Sinaloa cartel, which is a major fentanyl tracker and was founded by infamous drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. |

Prosecutors in the state of Arizona have formally charged two men with providing firearms to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa cartel.
Laurence Gray, a 65-year-old man who owns Grips of Larry, is accused of knowingly attempting to provide firearms to Mexican cartels in May 2025. According to the Tucson Sentinel, he agreed to sell a .50-caliber sniper rifle and three military-grade belt-fed rifles that were destined for Mexican criminal organizations.
As noted by the outlet, .50-caliber rifles are popular among Mexican cartels because their heavy rounds remain accurate beyond 2,000 yards and can easily penetrate buildings and vehicles. |

New York City officials say more than 1,000 illegal guns have been taken off the streets so far this year, a milestone they credit to targeted gang takedowns and interstate trafficking investigations.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Attorney General Letitia James announced the numbers Thursday at the 73rd Precinct in Brownsville, where many of the recovered weapons were displayed on long tables.
The haul included so-called “ghost guns” with no serial numbers, handguns, and assault‑style rifles that officials say were trafficked across state lines before ending up in city neighborhoods. |

Metro council leaders will meet Thursday evening to vote on a resolution urging the Kentucky General Assembly to address common-sense gun legislation.
It’s called “Kids Over Guns” and it’s aimed at stopping weapons from getting into the wrong hands.
Councilperson Ken Herndon said that in 2012, the Kentucky General Assembly removed individual cities’ abilities to add gun laws to ones already on the books. Now, he wants that power reinstated.
“What this is doing is asking the General Assembly to give us permission, Jefferson County only, to be able to do our own gun laws, so we are not trying to mess with any of the other 119 counties,” he said. |

Legislation insulating gun manufacturers and sellers from qualified civil liability actions advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
House Bill 78, sponsored by Rep. T.J. Roberts, R-Burlington, would make Kentucky law on firearms civil liability consistent with federal protections under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. It would prevent state courts from imposing liability on firearms manufacturers, sellers, and trade associations if a firearm is used in the commission of the crime.
“House Bill 78 is based on the same fundamental premise that we accepted when we adopted HB 222 in 2022, which is that no level of government and no branch of government can be used to nullify a constitutional right,” ... |

At issue are two parts of Hawaii’s firearm acquisition system. One is the state’s permit validity period for handgun purchases. The other is a post-purchase inspection requirement for certain firearms not obtained through Hawaii-licensed dealers. Hawaii told the court these are minor, objective conditions tied to a “shall-issue” regime and therefore presumptively constitutional under Bruen and Heller.
But throughout the hearing, multiple judges questioned whether the state’s theory is a backdoor way of reviving interest balancing under a new label. |
