"Now, when it comes to advising the citizens of the United States on how best to protect themselves against terrorist threat; the DHS fails miserably. We are advised to buy plastic and duct tape to seal our windows and doors, stock a little food and water, and report any suspicious activity. They make no mention at all about how to best protect ourselves and our families against an actual terrorist. They advise us on how to protect against airborne chemicals and food shortages, but nothing is mentioned about protection from the cause of the problem. If we suspect a terrorist, we are to make a report to the proper authorities, and eventually they might investigate. That has proven to not be good enough. As individuals, the police cannot protect us. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the police have no responsibility to protect an individual citizen." |

"As I write Dubya is telling how Saddam’s regime tied a 'dissident' to a stake in a town square after his tongue was cut out and allowed to bleed to death, as an example of how 'evil' our current enemies are. I don’t doubt what he says, on its face. I’ll also bet anyone a steak dinner that we’ll never hear Dubya talk about how evil the regime was that allowed a group our home-grown Nazis to murder a group of women and children in a church building a few years back." |

"Of course, price is no object when the goal is banning all guns – a $70 gun is hated with as much passion as one that costs $7,000. And nothing stirs the passions and seems to stoke the antagonism of anti-gun activists quite so much as gun shows, and the fact that federal rules do not force the occasional purchases from non-dealers to be checked through the National Instant Check System. Since Congress has said no to shutting down gun shows, these activists looked to Sept. 11 to provide a boost." |

"In an upset victory, Fresno Superior Court Judge Kane today ruled that a lawsuit challenging the new state 'assault weapon' law makes valid claims against the law, and should not be thrown out of court. California Attorney General Lockyer, a defendant in the suit, had asked the Court to dismiss the case. The ruling means that the case will proceed toward trial, and that when the plaintiffs prove that their factual allegations are true, the law might be struck down."
"The law suit challenges Senate Bill 23, the 1999 amendment to the state's 'assault weapon' law that bans firearms based on their cosmetic features." |

Nineteenth story on the page
FULL TEXT BELOW:
A pro-gun group is praising Virginia's Democratic governor for proving to be a man of his word. Gov. Mark Warner earned praise from the Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) after signing a bill that gives state gun law precedence over inconsistent local regulations. CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron called the law "a victory for gun owners in the Old Dominion...and all Virginians who believe that the fundamental right of self-defense should not be encumbered by local jurisdictions that have passed regulations sometimes contrary to state statute." Under the bill, citizens licensed to carry concealed weapons in Virginia will not be prosecuted for violating local ordinances that regulate gun possession. The law does not prevent private companies and groups from setting their own gun rules, however. Gov. Warner campaigned on a gun rights platform, and CCRKBA praised him for remembering his promises now that the election is over.
